i dont know about many of the others, but speaking for myself...
I'm not looking to debate. I came here to talk with other h2 owners about our vehicles and to chat in a casual, non-hostile environment about subjects in relation to our vehicles (modifications, questions, etc.)
I do however understand your reasoning, and I think you did (after your first few posts) eventually bring some good discussion here. It is good to get some general information on off-roading and what-to's and what-nots. But in all honesty, the constant comparing, flames (not necessarily all from you), arguments, etc.; it got out of hand.
If I do ever want to debate which vehicle is better, I'll be sure to stop by discoweb.
Feel free though to continue to post here concerning general 4x4 stuff... but I ask (i can't demande as it's not my forums) that you please quit the comparisons of the vehicles... because in the end, it comes down to driver preference. There is no right answer.
Firebreather

i completely disagree with you Boris. i for one would like to see the comparisons. i want h2 owners and LR owners and jeep owners to openly discuss in this forum the similarities and differences of the vehicles...that is part of learning about the H2 isnt? learning its strengths and weaknesses? are the members of this forum really this sensitive and high strung that they cant take a little ribbing from the LR and Jeep guys? come on!!!
heres a suggestion: if you are one of those timid souls who just cant bear to read that another brand owner thinks their truck is better then dont read the thread!!!
but for those of us that are interested in the comparisons, dont force me to go to another website where the focus isnt the truck im going to buy.
i think the H2 stands up pretty well to the other 4x4 suvs... what are we afraid of?
Firebreather:
You might want to check the thread titled "Flush the Trolls." Boris makes a point that many of us agree with. It is not a matter of having thick-skin and taking the criticism of the H2. No one is saying that visitors to this forum must like our choice of vehicle.
The overlying point is that there was a general lack of respect and etiquette as GUESTS of this site.
Most of us welcome "Jeep" guys/gals and "Ford" enthusiasts so long as they present themselves in a constructive manner. Some of the Land Rover folks have offered comeraderie, but the unfortunate truth and fact of the matter is that a "wave" of negativity and constant "H2 Bashing" broke into darn-near every thread. That, my friend, is not the way many of us want to be treated.
There is enough B.S. and stress in this world. The last thing many of us want is to face more of this "bad energy" when we come to this forum.
I shared your view initially and welcomed the new vistitors to discuss issues in a calm and mature aire, but the responses tended to bypass such principle.
AMEN, Bro. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
It is standard online operating procedure among teens to say you are 18 when you are 14 or 15. At that young age, they have no sense of responsibility, integrity or any clear concept of what is right or wrong. Teens do things just for fun. My 15 years old nephew loves to cause a mess on websites, smart straight A student, but a total devil online, they go online in packs and very clever in pretending to discuss the subjects at whatever websites they happened to pick on, but the goal is always to cause a mess and walk away. The more angry the regular visitors get the more happy they are. It is futile to try to talk to them and ask them to speak in a more cordial manner. They have no intention whatsoever of staying around to talk Hummer once they are finished with you.

I agree with you 100% SJ.I read most of the threads untill it got carried away and ridiculas. In fact Firebreather, SJ demonstrated more patience then any of us had in giving those guys an opportunity to constructively add into the forum. In my opinion they purposed to rattle cages. They were missioned kamikaze pilots. You can't debate with that. I only thing I can think off is to make a designated area withinin this forum perhaps outside the General discussion area and call it the war zone or battlefield for those wanting to be your Modern day Private Ryan's. That's up to Jason. Discussions are one thing Trashing and bashing is another.

Come on, we could all tell from the nature of their posts that civilized discourse was not in the offing. Ignore, ignore, ignore. Like MAC said, you recognize them, they just get happier.
You (some of you)egg them on, then call for them to be banned because you don't like what they say? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Much easier to ignore.

In my opinion, these so called Land Rover Dudes brought nothing of any value to this site other than irritate people. The H2 owners and future H2 owners are here to talk about there vehicals and discuss mods and just help eachother out.
I'm glad there gone and if I see a rover on hill, I'll walk over it (with ease) with my H2!

look in the mirror, most H2 guys are right smack dab in the same demographic group of buyers that the average Landrover guys.
both make good incomes ,have a degree, a few kids and a mortgage on a home with a value of over 300k
you have more in common then you do not
when you guys really get bitten by the bug as many of us have , we a community of off-road vehicles need to be allies not enemies
when the trails are being closed or someone wants to install a hidden winch to preserve the on road looks information from other areas of the off-road world are key in you a H2 owner acomplishing your goals

MN has really come on strong with there population of fish, mostly due to the growing catch and release ethic catching on there.
I moved out east for awhile and had alot of fun adventures living just outside NYC in NJ but my midwestern roots pulled me back. I often think about moving out west for a few years just to be closer to all the great mile and miles of open free access trails. but having a 5 year old daughter that wouldent be likely to happen.

Why do grown men engage in online conversation with minors? do you realize the danger in such activities? This subject was discussed last night when the police visited my club to discuss crime prevention. In these types of cases, one is guilty unles proven otherwise. As a parent, if I discover such extended online conversation between my 12 or 14 yrs old boys with 30-50 years old adults online, regardless of what subjects or who started the conversation, as a precaution, I will absolutely report to my local police department. Maybe the police have nothing better to do? but they made it clear that they want to know and will take actions and work with Fed authorities' registry. As the officer said: "Why would a normal middle age man engage in extended online conversation with a child? there could be something wrong down the road or elsewhere with that individual."

Kelley,
no I dont know miltona,I do most of my Musky fishing in northern Wisconsin, we are on Lake Tomahawk but I know and fish about 100 different lakes up there.
I practice a old world method of fishing called row trolling . you row to pull your baits...look mom no motor http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I work deep clear lakes and spend most my time fishing around schools of bait fish in the deepest areas of a body of water.this method really targets the biggest fish in a body of water. for a number of years I have built boats just for this purpose. they are recreations of the original Guide boats used back 70 to 100 years ago in northern wisconsin.
my favorite time to fish is under the dark moon at night when the huge fish become active in the Gin clear water.
I also Fly Fish for muskie and have written many articles on the subject over the years if you ever get the itch for a new musky expierience catching one on a fly is well worth the effort. I have caught hundreds of species on the fly and they really rank right up there with Bonefish, cobia and permit in my estimation.
so whats your biggest musky?
just had to ask ...what kinda musky fisherman would I be if I didnt?

then just ignore the trolls. my god how hard is that to understand? if you feed them they grow! ignore them and they go away! but dont ban them or delete their posts / threads!
and why does everyone keep referring to this as a "stress-free" place? WTF? is this a dayspa? grow a pair! lets talk trucks and 4x4s, H2s and so on and so forth!
my god, are u guys all on medication or have heart problems?
this is supposed to be a fun place where we can learn about the H2, share our experiences and connect with other like minded people! that will inevitably call into play comparing the damn truck with others. is that forbidden? if i say the H2 is better than a RR will i be banned or just my post deleted?
stop being so protective. u are making yourselves look like a bunch of sensitive, whiny, old women. (no offense girls)
where are the men's men and the tough girls?
Firebreather, there are more men on here with balls then you know, but that does not mean we need to show them to every swinging penis that comes through here... In my profession that was know as the "quiet professionals", dont have to sling beer on each other and grunt to let people know what it is like jumping out of a 4 engine jet in the middle of pitch black night with a full combat load. Maybe we just have a different tone and depth of life experince then you are use to. It may be true that the other forums are more lively, with lots of debate and mud slinging being a normal part of that exchange. It may be true that our average age on this forum is closer to 40 then to 20, like it appears some of our guests hail from. So what, this place on the internet has developed it's own personality. That is what is so cool about the internet, there is a place for all people, with all interests, who can go and congregate in cyber and meet like minded people. So that is what we have done. What you see if is what you get, don't like it, move on. Free choice. Sorry if you don't get the same rise or feel the same need to be polite here. Enjoy. Life is way freaking shorter then most people think...

life experience...dude how old do u think i am? im not 18. im a trial lawyer. and im not looking to get into fights or debates with trolls...i rarely engage in childish behavior even on the other sites i am a member of...i dont feed trolls but i dont want their posts deleted either. sometimes what they have to say needs to be said. and i think i have been very polite to all on this forum. i am expressing my views and my opinions in a professional and hopefully somewhat humorous manner. as for moving on, if u dont like reading my posts, then dont. but i will continue to post here for so long as i choose. moreover, i will advocate the kind of independent thinking and freedom of expression i believe this site should have.
glad to hear u got to jump out of a plane with guns on and didnt sling beers on people telling them about it...just because i like to doesnt mean im wrong.

The way I see it, These Rover owners are envious and they want the H2.......BAD!
They come here and bad mouth the beast, not content to stay in their own forum(BORING),
and try to get a rise out of us. What does that tell you? The more they try, the dummer they look....have pity on them.
It's obvious there is something THREATING about the H2 that makes them so negative.

02-08-2003, 12:18 AM
all u have to do is take one look at the H2 to realize why others are jealous of the truck. its beautiful IMHO.
Firebreather, but then I couldn't watch you gasp for that last breath, eyes rolling up in your head, you know, the court room it's just... well you know, to sterile... like no dirt, no sweat, feeling like your heart is beating so hard the bad guy is going to hear it... court rooms are boring... counter this, "but your honor" that, and "hey they are badgering my witness"... no thrill of the hunt.

but it would be fun to me...watching u get nervous, stumble over your words, me blocking you in, not ever seeing me coming, and finally moving in for the kill...there is definitely thrill of the hunt...the courtroom is where mental and verbal combat take place!
Ahh, but I have been in that arena, US Federal Court in Honolulu Hawaii, 1989... As a government witness... They key is to slow you down and make you wait for each and every answer, take my time, frustrate you, think before open mouth, give vague and conditional answers... it was so much fun watching this turd of a defense lawyer try to catch me in something that I did or did not say in a deposition given a year earlier, I just relaxed, leaned back, finally the judge almost thru me off the stand... it was great comedy. Oh, they lost. U.S. DOJ won. They went home much poorer then when they came in... I know how to defeat you guys if I believe and know that I am right... takes some training though, the DOJ guys did a good job helping me get ready.

on a serious note, u r absolutely right about what u said wrt answering questions from a lawyer. the trick is to remain calm, keep thinking, and dont be afraid to admit making a mistake. pride is the undoing of most witnesses.

Oh sure, you can meet up in the jungle and challenge eachother one-on-one...and I have no doubt you'd prevail in some fashion....but what exactly do you think your gonnna do to him???
Shoot him, stab him, torch him with gasoline??? Has Hollywood taught you nothing??? Can it be that you've somehow neglected to learn from the many movies such as "Halloween", "Night of the living dead" and other such flicks? Could these valuable lessons have somehow eluded you?
What part of "I'm a lawyer" didn't you get?
CLEARLY my client, hereforth known and referred to as "Sona" is not of sound mind (mentus lackus deficeint-ass)...nor does he possess the mental stability to be held accountible for his words. Uh....hey...guys,
I'm quite certain, from reading the post, that somebody mistook Firebreather as being one of the LR-invaders.
For the record, Firebreather has a name, it's Jason AND he's not one of the "trolls". Big-time misunderstanding there. Let's all un-lock and un-load the artillery and relax: the LR assault is over and done.
While some of us are still suffering from what psychiatrist refer to as "Post Traumatic LR stress disorder"....the rest of us have moved on.
So let's all chill out and feel the love once again.....on all counts...everything is cool.

I often like to jump in and defuse things with a bit of humor. In the end...we all just want to enjoy life and feel good about ourselves.
Or something like that. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I have to authenticate Firebreather's take on the previous situation. I did initially jump in with an attempt to thrust and perry with my bayonet, after FB and I traded a few blows, we achieved a middle ground and it became nothing more then internet banter. So, we may have came into this thread with one intention, we finished it with another. When I read his posts I realize he and I are quite similar, HBWS (Hitting the Bear With Stick). Everyone relax, stop the name calling, hey I don't like Lawyers much either, unless they are H2 owners, then they are my friends too, bound by our common interests, questions, and ignorance about H2's. I can't believe that I read everyone of those posts. I must be insane too. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I work with a lot of attorneys in my business and they are down to earth for the most part when you get them out of the court room.
Sona sounds like he is probably sane most of the time. Now if we can just get him under control we can move on to Hummer business. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Or whatever.
Remember, it is not the size of the stick but how you swing it. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I've done both. Fencing is the far superior sport both in terms of strategy and in terms of lower body conditioning. Each time I take a hiatus, I think I'm going to bust a gut when I go back...it's just INTENSE...
Steve, I'll step on the racquetball court with you anytime and I'll hold my own (haven't played in years) but fencing would kick your butt! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

NOT to draw a competitive sport issue....but my vote has got to be for racquetball...you have to be quick, agile, reverse direction quickly and move like lightening! I play twice a week for about 2 1/2 hours at a time...it's about the most fun you can have in the confines of a small room whacking balls around for sport!
Oh behave!!

Steve;
I was talking about pure conditioning. Racketball is fun and lots of strategy; which if you use, you won't have to move very much! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I have seen a ton of fat out of shape good racketball players; don't see that in many other sports.

Hmmmmm.....
This gives me an idea. Why not create a sport called "Racfencing"? A racquet in one hand and the sword in the other? Then to make it more challenging we can attach weights to our upper-body!!!

Can we get strippers on polls instead of cheerleaders? I'm thinking we could get serious pay per view numbers! No real rules needed, just kind of a gladiator feel.

I'm hearing ya K-tower.....think you've got something there. Perhaps a bit of pro-wrestling dialed in...say "Texas chain-style match-up" where contestants are tied together with a chain.

My wife asked me one night at a Mavs game what I would do if I were as rich as Mark Cuban (7bil); My response; I'd have a Mavs dancer on a stripper poll in each room of my house!
Not that I have a particular affinity for the stripper poll; but because it would make for the most entertaining episode of Cribs ever on MTV!!
As for the game; a kendo stick and a cattle prod for each combatant in a barbed wire cage match!! Vinny Mac watch your back!
