View Full Version : Photo of the Month

Sorry, but in my opinion ths month's photo is self-aggrandizing and BORING!! Couldn't they go pat themselves on their backs somewhere else. Prime example of "Look at me syndrome". Pathetic.
I'm sure I'll get torched for this opinion, but I had to express it. But I know I'm not alone.

DRTY, I think it is just an East Coast thing. NYC is a very "hey look at me" kind of place.

It's just pathetic that they had to have a "look at me" parade for themselves.

This is actually the first time I have become an active member of a forum, but while talking to other people about various forums, it seems everybody has a few people like you Drtyfn. "Like you" I mean, someone who feels it necessary to give mostly everybody else a rough time. But I guess its a reflection of your personality in and outside of this forum!

Is it me or is this DRTYFN always rattling cages at every opportunity he has to get attention. Like that irritating little kid that no one likes but the big kids let him stick around because it's not worth the effort. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I'm only teasing you DRTYFN. You actually are right, one the whole, in your generalization about New Yorkers. However I know a few of the guys that were at the NY event and they do not represent the stereotype you describe. If you don't like the photo you should hang out on that HTML site and sniffle and whine over there for a while.

"Hey Look at me".. Hell yes. if you drive an unusual vec. you are at least in a small way a Hey Look at me kind of person.. If you say no, I bought it purely for its off road abilty. I think that person is blowing smoke up their on butts.. We all know that we could build a top notch off road vec, for less then what or H2's cost..
Of course I could be wrong.. I drive mine so I can move through the neighborhood with out being noticed... THe stealth mode..
So if you want to show off your H2.. go for it..it is yours.. and others will enjoy it too.

It is unfortunate that the limited few must bring this attitute to the forum. Looks like you all had a great time.

ag·gran·dize ** (*P*)**Pronunciation Key**(-grndz, grn-)
tr.v. ag·gran·dized, ag·gran·diz·ing, ag·gran·diz·es
To increase the scope of; extend.
To make greater in power, influence, stature, or reputation.
To make appear greater; exaggerate: aggrandize one argument while belittling another.
Sorry to piss on your "look at me" parade, but having your little soiree in Times Square was exactly where you shouldn't have had it.
Instead of the shameless flaunting of possesions in front of everyone why not have your gathering someplace that is more befitting of the H2? Ohhh, maybe because you'll get dirt in your wheel wells. Why not take all of these folks out and teach them about the very capable vehicle that they own? Maybe because you'd be out of your element.
And I didn't judge the book by it's cover, but by it's content. Pictures of everyone glad-handing each other and patting each other on the back while surrounded by fawning crowds and canyons of concrete & steel sort of tells the whole story.
"OK THEN, THANKS AGAIN TO ALL FOR MAKING IT A HIT.
BY THE WAY, WE HIT THE NEWS......LIVE ON ABC BETWEEN COMMERCIALS OF A GAME!"
Remember saying that, White Beast? If that doesn't say "attention-hungry" then I don't know what does. You're practically frothing at the mouth. Why don't you organize an outing to go pick up garbage on a local trail somewhere? Oh, I forgot! That would mean getting dirty.
And why do you feel the need to USE CAPS ON EVERYTHING? More attention, right?
Do something to help change some of the misperceptions of the public about Hummer owners, not reinforce them.

He wouldn't make it 5 minutes in NYC.
What do you expect from someone who "hunts dem varmints".
He knows nothing of dinner at Tao. He is more accustomed to squirrel and possum.
The H2 is as much of an urban assault vehicle as it is an off road vehicle.

I think you East coast guys are missing something. here in the NW it is a completely different story. people who are flashy in any way out here are ostracized. Flashy cars get keyed or gummed, or worse. Constant negative stares are everywhere. The attitude around here is that if you've got it (money) nobody gives a ****. If you try to show it off, you are an *******, and an arrogant prick. DRTY is just coming from a non-californian west coast point of view. Just regional culture differences, that's all.

AND I`M NOT ABOUT TO START NOW!!!!!!
Do you know what the majority of those people THINK and SAY when they see you guys there in the middle of Time Square?????????
" WHAT A BUNCH OF LOSERS! HAHAHAHA!!!! "
Think of how ridiculous you guys must have been! Huddled together DYING for attention when all you get is jeers and jealous looks.
We`re trying so hard for months to make people understand the true capabilities of the H2. But instead you guys pimp it out in the open reinforcing association of the word POSER with the H2.
I would love to drive through Times Square in my H2 and mabye with a few others........
TO SEE TIMES SQUARE!!!! Not huddle around like a bunch of sheep screaming for attention.
The event was a success.
But a HUGH disservice for the H2 community.

Hey now...
It's one thing to bomb a troll....but this inner-forum stuff isn't good for any of us. Don't any of ya be growin' weeds in our cabbage patch!
Now I won't kid ya...I hope to throw some water on this fire and calm things down, let's see if some moisture can hit the flames before it evaporates....
DRTYFN...dude: we've all been to parties and seen some pretty ugly chicks. Just cause they're ugly doesn't give us the right to go up to them and let them know. I hate to quote Momma...but Momma always said "if you don't have anything nice to say...then just don't say anything at all". Course, Momma also said something about playing with something and going blind http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif, but that's besides the point.
Just as you can drink a women pretty, you're gonna just have to hold your thoughts or drink that picture pretty.
These guys worked hard to put that event together and cutting them isn't gonna do any good. Let me offer this perspective:
Yeah, the 2 is a great offroading...and your recent pics attest to that fact. At the same time the 2 also has turn-signals, a stereo, luxury seats and a swarm of luxuries that rival some of the nicest vehicles on the road. Seriously, there's nothing wrong with celebrating it's versatility and showing the other extreme aspect of taking it uptown to the center of metropolitan society. Ya know...WTF..it does the ugly AND the pretty. It's nasty AND refined.
Ya gotta remember, these folks don't really have many areas to wheel at....as evidence, they have to travel. So they got together and had themselves some stlyin' fun. Good for them!
How's this for a pic: An H2 with one of those split images....right down the center of the H2 there is a line, the left side of the vehicle is filthy, dirty and a guy is partially stepping out from the vehicle with boots and a strong utilitarian look....he's exiting out into a wilderness, like the Con.
The right side of the picture has the H2 totally clean & shiny. Stepping out is a woman all dressed up for a nice dinner and evening on the town. (I'll email you a better pic of her later).
(Dennis, draft us a visual on the split H2)
So what do ya say DRTYFN....can we cut these folks some slack, blame it on one too many beers and play nice?
DRTYFN
11-05-2003, 06:38 AM
Heh heh.... no. And I'm not blaming it on my friends, the beers, either.
It was a fantastic turn-out, but it was also a HUGE disservice to all of us that try so hard to change the misperception of people about Hummer owners.
Sorry, but I still maintain that it could've been held in a more low-key location. It's too bad that WhiteBeast felt left out of the initial H2 unveiling with AH-NOLD and had to organize his own feel good parade. I still think it screams "LOOK AT ME!!! I'M AN ATTENTION WHORE!!!!"
I feel bad for you Steve, because a few months ago you would have been jumping on them worse than I am. How's that moderator title feel now?
Steve R
11-05-2003, 06:50 AM
DRTYFN....big mistake. I would have started your paragraph more like this:
heh heh, well...perhaps, maybe....NO!!!!, you missed out on some serious intensity by understating your position. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I disagree with you....at no time in my forum posting career would I have flamed such an event. I really don't see anything wrong with it. In all honestly, I might have done the very same thing.
It's not worth agruing about, I've stated my points merely in an effort to help resolve this.
Are ya sure it isn't beer-related? And btw, I'm only a moderator cause Jason promised me access to the secret "Hummer Hotties" section of the forum. Jealous????......YES!

I can see both sides here, but I don't think its any worse than taking your car to a car show.
Off-road it one day, show it off the next. Too bad it isn't that easy given the negative media attention the H2 has received.
If I were a non-H2 person and I saw those trucks in Times Square I'd stop to check them out, not their owners. Too bad some people in this word are jealous a-holes that try to cut down the owner of something obviously nice.

There seems to be a lot of comments about peoples misconceptions of H2 owners - if you want to point the finger at someone I would personaly start with the idiots that market the thing.
I have just been looking at an old copy of Mens Journal (July 2003 issue).
On page 27 there is a full page close up of the front of a yellow H2.
The only text in the add runs across the top.
"B TO THE L TO THE I TO THE N TO THE G".
I dont know how you all feel about that - but BLING being spelt out across an H2 add upset me a bit.
No wonder some people think we are dickheads.

Steve, I thinks it's important we let ugly girls know that they are ugly, let quad exhaust pipes know they look stupid (so they won't leave the garage), and let shiny H2 events know they COULD send the wrong message. DRTY was a little harsh, probably could have gotten the point across differently but I think it makes sense. How long have we been fighting to gain some respect for the H2 from the off-road crowd? This one is kind of a setback IMO.
Back to ugly girls. At Ohio State we would go up to an ugly girl at a very LOUD bar and under our breath say "do you want to dance?". They would get all excited but since they couldn't exactly hear you over the music they would say "What?" THEN we would say "You look fat in those pants!!"

Very odd thread...
I have a feeling that anyone saying that the gathering in Times Square was for attention and to make people jealous of everyone's H2 haven't ever been to NYC for a period of time.
Maybe in other parts of the country do cars get this type of attention. In NYC there is so much wealth in the majority of people that fancy cars are just like an average honda in other parts of the country.
Out where I live every other car is a mercedes/bmw/porsche. At almost any time driving through our small town you will see multiple cars that are over 200K each parked at the same time.
I was away at the current time but I prob. would have went to meet everyone. The city is a great place to meet and have a good night out!

Drty....just have to apoligize for all the beatings you probably took as a kid from all the cool kids, that you now need to lash out at everyone and everything on this site. What Whitebeast did had nothing to do with "look at me", but had to do with a bunch of people getting together to talk about and look at what we all love so much, and what we are all here for, even you....the Hummer.
Not that explaining this to you even matters, because none of us would have wanted you there anyway. So, I am going to for go all of my opinions of you and your posts from now on. Don't get me wrong Detonate, the framework was a feat in itself. An experience all of us would have loved to take in(Even DRTY).
But ****! Talk about all flash and no substance. The thousands of people who saw them, walked away with the wrong message of the H2.
Most of us(Like you Detonate), try to show people the true capabilities of the H2. Trying to enlighten the naysayers. In one full swoop, that night negated countless bonified HHs.
I know it is your duty to dissagree with me, but I highly doubt you would have been part of that scene. I doubt if you would have stood outside your H2, open the doors, turn on your vids, strike a pose on yer cool brushbar.
See NY...But valet them suckers.
Step right up folks and see the aaaamaaazing H2 posers!

Again, for you Det, it's not the event, it's where it was held. It was the most conspicuous location possible. Organizing and actually pulling off a gathering like that is great, but having the ego-fest in NYC is ridiculous. I've heard from a couple of people that live in and around NYC and they feel the same way.
I would have thought you would have had at least a sliver of comprehension why that "parade" wasn't such a hot idea. Maybe I gave you too much credit.

I would not have attended that event because I despise crowds, hate traffic, and really don't even like people that much.
However, I think that is one of the coolest H2 events held to date.
There is no WRONG or RIGHT impression of the H2.

I really do not want to get in on this...BUT:
I do not recall any of you who are now criticizing this event doing the same during the run-up to it. I do not recall any of you saying this was a bad idea. It seems the pre-event posts were all positive.
This massive undertaking seems to have gone off without a hitch, and judging by the looks on the spectators faces, it was a success. Lots of people stopping by and checking out the rigs. It is not much different than showing your truck to some curious folks at the gas station, just a larger, more high profile venue. It also afforded the passers by with a chance to see an H2 upclose and to meet some of the owners. I do not see anything negative about that.
Congratulations on a great event.

How & why would we criticize something before it happened? I didn't know how it was going to turn out. And actually I didn't even look at the post leading up to it.
Showing your H2 to someone at the gas station, ect, and answering questions is completely different from the self-aggrandizing "look at me" parade.
Whenever we have HH's here that are off road, the entire group of 40plus vehicles caravans to the site. When the event is not off road we all park and party together. Is that too self-aggrandizing for you?
I put my H2 in shows at least once a month. People love to see the rig up close and I have met many nice people that have tons of questions. I try to answer them all and, frankly, I love doing it.
Now you could have criticized it ahead of time because they said exactly what they were going to do. A simple "sounds like crap" would have worked. When they said they were going to meet in Times Square you could not have thought they were going wheeling. Oh yeah, you did not read the posts ahead of time. You jumped in after the fact.
It looks as if everyone around the trucks had a good time. That is a positive for all Hummer owners and a fantastic promo for the H2.
Simply because an event is not your cup of tea, or any others', does not mean it is bad for the H2's reputation as a serious off road vehicle with mild road manners.

It is amazing to me how every perfectly innocent post on this forum is turned into a giant pissing match by Drtyfn and/or Dennis.
As far as I am concerned, this forum has gone from first to worst just because some members seem to think the forum is all about them.
Most of us joined the forum to share our experiences, knowledge and love of the H2, not to to be disrespected by other highly opinionated members.
People clearly buy the H2 for different reasons. I bought mine to recreate as far away from peabrains like 'you-know-who' as I can. If others want to drive their truck to work, take their kids to school in it, keep it in the garage, lift it, drop it or show it off in Times Square, that is up to them and I could care less.
If you do happen to care and just can't keep it to yourself - fine - express your opinion, but please do it in a respectful fashion, otherwise this forum will degenerate into a handfull of semi-professional flamers (if it hasn't already. If you don't have anything positive to say, feel free to skip to another topic without saying anything.

Actually the reason nobody joined drty on the rubicon is because nobody had the balls. I almost did, but then pussied out because I was afraid of seriously damaging my truck. Maybe if I had 37s like DRTY I would have done it, but not with the stock 35s. admit it, it takes a huuuuge set of cojones to run the rubi in an H2, especially the parts that DRTY ran. Hats off to him for having the big brass balls. The rest of us are pussies... Except for the Moab guys. That looked sweet as hell too. You guys have brass balls as well.
I had a feeling this thread would get a lot of posts. I was out of town during that weekend but wish I made the NYC event. I thoroughly enjoy meeting up with Hummer owners, whether it’s to admire the vehicle’s beautiful esthetics, to wheel, have a few beers, whatever, so long as they have passion for the vehicle and the are respectful, intelligent people. As far as where Hummer gatherings are done, regardless where we meet I think we can all face reality that we have obvious vehicles with ostentatious qualities and people are going to draw prejudiced conclusions. NYC happens to be a perfect place to meet to just hang out. I think it is unfortunate that there are H2 snobs who think this tarnishes some kind of reputation they need to portray. Call it self-aggrandizing, but picking a meeting place at the popular gas station in beautiful downtown Portland or a corner in Times Square is the same crap. New Yorkers certainly don’t see the need to pick some remote place where nobody can see you meeting your buds to go out to dinner. Even if we stand on the roof rack, have a little car show, take some pictures in the interim, who cares! So long as we are not driving off trails, parking on sidewalks, intimidating cab drivers and talking down to Range Rovers. That’s the stuff I’m concerned about. Based on what I know about the events of that evening our NY area brethren have represented us well. The photo of the month on this website is not what’s boring, this conversation is.

I've noticed that you have a very aggressive fixation with homosexuality. When backed into a corner you lash out with particularly vicious anti-gay slurs. It sounds like you're struggling with your own sexuality and the fact that you're being gay would adversely affect your kiddie site. I wonder how fast the traffic on your site would dry up if parents were to become aware of your sexual preference. They probably wouldn't be very excited that someone with your belligerent attitude was on the other end of the kiddie site.

The site is a Humor type site... Or was.... But you'd have to understand heavy technical humor to get it.

I haven't heard about suits with trademarked names but it makes sense. We just use specific keywords relating to the foods we sell.
Adwords conversion=1.6%@$56 sale
Content Conversion=1.3%@$133 sale
Content is when the link is attached to a relevant news article, in effect, prepping the consumer for the purchase, ergo the larger average sale.
I still highly recommend GoToast software to manage all PPC search engines.

Sure, makes sense to me unless it's a vendor that is selling the trademarks products. The mfg. should be happy that they are marketing for them, but it sounds like what is happening is competitors or unrelated sites are using trademarks to generate traffic (not good).
A few months back a competitor bought the plural version of my URL. I couldn't believe it. It took 2 days to send the cease and desist letter to have them take it down.
