The results are in! Manik Rock Rails do not hold up like the Hummer OEM rails. Here are some pictures of my Rock rails and Sewie's after 2 days on the Rubicon.

I am going to write Manick and see what they say. They did protect the body, but now they need to be replaced. Big waste of $$$$

Nice side-by-side. Even the OEM ones took a beating, but they definitely held up better. One side with a little dent and the other side pushed up a little bit.

It will be interesting to hear how Manik responds.

It's going to be interesting just getting them off the truck!

Don't think there will be anyone that is surprised they didn't hold up as well as the OEM but damn, you beat the hell out them

*Note to self: Ditch Manik Rails and begin fabrication of new rails*

I bought some rock rails for my brother's Grand cherokee. they're very sturdy and tough. You could email the maker and see if they have plans for the H3...

I volunteer! Need a set myself and haven't had time to make them. I'm thinking 1" round tube DOM, w/.250 wall thickness. Will weigh 800#, but would never bend.

I think DRTYFN has a great idea..... The dealer wants $600.00 for the rock rails....

Aw, heck. As the Mrs. would tell ya: You get what you paid for. I see that the Manik rail did the job of protecting your H3, though. I bought mine because I am cheap ;) and I think that they will do the job of protecting the sides of my truck. I don't mine replacing them if they get bent out of shape as I expect them to as long as the truck is protected.

Sewie

That doesn't make any sense. Why not buy a better product that will last longer and do a better job?

Plus, with much more abuse, Babhumv's rails probably wouldn't have been protecting his truck. Perhaps, actually damaging it, or likely sitting on the side of the trail.

I'm too busy prototying a skid plate and other stuff (and Utah is too far), but somebody should take up Glenn Wakefield's offer at www.rocky-road.com. He wrote the following in response to my inquiry about H3 rockrails:

We do this [free offer] for all vehicles in prototyping. We just need a vehicle at our
shop for a couple days. We prototype, build, powdercoat, and install the
Rockrails at no cost in exchange for the time at our shop. If anyone is in
our area that wants fee rockrails, have them contact us.

There is a Mark at the technical support, ask him is there is anything
they can do for you.

I wonder what Manik would be willing to do. I wonder if the see this as a cosmetic item or an actual piece of protection. If they sell it as protection then they should do something for you. A rock rail should not be a one trip, disposable item.

I was wondering....does anyone have the Manik Step Bars along w/ the Manik Rocker Rails? I do and talk about a design flaw! The stepbars have to be mounted to the brackets before the rocker rails are. So yes..in order to just have the rails on, you have to removed both steps and rails then reinstall the rails. Talk about a PITA! I haven't even put my stepbars back on since Paragon (Memorial Day).

I wonder if the guys at Manik realize the F-k up?

Guess they are starting to wake up and realize their accessory pricing is way out there. I asked them to match that price back in March and they said no

I haven't put mine back on since Tellico in March :p
Tired of hearing the bitching from the GF though :(

Done deal:D

I just made the plans to go up early and let Rocky-Road have the rig for a couple of days to fabricate and design a set of rock rails for it. Can't wait. This also means I will be in Moab on Friday, not Saturday for those who need to know.

Update from Manik.

They did call me back. Their response was that the Manik Rock Rails were built as "decorative items only". My response was they are not martketed as "Decorative Rock Rails" and therefore I was under the assumption (we all know what happens when we ASS-U-ME:eek:) they were rock rails, not decorative tubes.

Long story short, they are sending me a set of the 2nd generation taillight guards free as compensation.

So if you want a decorative tube under your body, get the Manik tubes. If you want something that works, get the OEM or wait a couple of weeks and Rocky-Road will have a version of tuff rock rails fabricated from my rig:D.

That's got to be one of the dumbest things I've heard in awhile. Almost as bad as simulated beadlocks. Maybe Manik will bring us a faux e-locker next.

Nice job. I feel like this forum is really starting to push the aftermarket for the H3 offroad. I wonder what will be left for Amstar when they finally get their act together.

If they're sending you the chrome ones, they better send me mine
first. ;)
I've been waiting since like March to get a replacement set.
On the first set the weld was in the wrong place on the driver
side one. Talked to them a couple of days ago, now they should
come when I'm in Moab. I wanted them for the first time I was in
Moab.

Glad they offered you something, but jeeeshh decorative rock rails - Glad your truck survived the Rubicon
