Has anybody installed the HitchCam rear view camera system? I am thinking of buying this back-up camera system and want to know if anyone else is using it. If so, does it work well and would you recommend the HitchCam. Does anyone using this system also have their spare tire mounted on the back and does the spare block part of the camera's view?

i have the HitchCam and love it, it works really well and took about 15-20 min to install. You can see whats behind you, but you still really dont know how far the object is if you get really close to it, if say ur backing up. the object gets bigger and bigger till you cant see anything (blocked by the object), u might still have a foot or more to go, but its hard to tell how far it is when u get really close (example if ur backing up and there is a wall)
a camera that is mounted high on the h2 pointing down (maybe in the middle red light on the top) might be better because then you could see how far the object behind you is. but then, the rear tire carrier might block the view, not sure.
i am still very happy with it though, helps a lot and i dont worry about running over people or cars while backing up (damn rear tire blockes most of the view).
o ya..i also have the rear spare tire mounted on the back, i can see the top of the rear tire, but it does not block the cameras view at all.

I have some friends that have it and love it. Since I already had a flip screen installed, I did this custom job:

I suppose if you are worried about proximity of an object, you can install a sensor as well as the camera. I think sensors are relatively dirt cheap compared to the cameras.
Keep us posted. I'm interested in tinting the back windows and thus feel the additional need for extra assistance while in reverse. Even without tinting or anything, I'd like to have a camera back there.

I have it and love it too. It is an easy install, it took me about an hour. I ran the wiring (cable) down the passenger side under the thresholds and up the pillar. I think that you can get them on sale at this time too.

Thanks everyone for your input. I am going to order the HitchCam. I live on a culdasac with a lot of kids besides my own two. I always back out of my driveway and worry about not seeing a kid.
