I just installed a copper background for my instrument cluster. My truck is orange and I thought the copper might look good...

Has anyone else done this, and do you like it? The photos don't really do it justice... However, it is a big change from the white.

Is this an after market kit or did you modify the stock instrument cluster? Please give us some more details.

Thanks

It's actually a laser cut overlay. it goes on over the stock face, and it is easy to do yourself. The manufacturer is US Speedo, but I am unable to find a web link.

The distributor is Tim Campbell 800-709-4245. He can provide more information, pricing, etc.

They have many different styles and colors. The stainless also look great.

They look really great, the stainless is sweet. But, I actually really like the factory look a lot as well.

I dig the stainless and actually like the copper it's just a little hard to tell in a photo but I can gather it would look "rich" for lack of a different adjective. It's a pretty cool idea.

$250 for the faceplate. It goes on over the stock face. Easy to install, since it is an overlay, took all of about 10 minutes, including cleanup.

It's a pretty dramatic change, but was easy to get used to..

Thanks for finding the link Big-C, sometimes I think if it's not found by Google, it dosen't exist.

I would like to know if there is an instrument cluster available where the speedometer units are "reversed".
No, not mirror view, but meaning that the outer ring gives velocity in Km/hr and the inner ring in Ml/hr. Just sent that question to JPCustoms' customer service mailbox. Will follow up, I hope.
But then the ODO-meter will still be in total miles, even if Driver settings are set to metric. JCJ

JCJ,

Don't call JP Customs on making a custom face they are getting there product from the manufacture US Speedo. Click on the link above and talk to US Speedo. I think they can make anything for the right price. Good luck! BIG-C

Travis,
It looks great!!

Did they replace the plexiglass cover over the panel??

I ask because when mine was painted they had to custom cut a new piece to go over the panel. It's good, but you can tell it's not stock.

Thanks,
John

Yup. SO it looks like I am going to get my Kilometer speedometer from US Speedo directly for $165.
And guess what? I'll get a chance to "edit" the blue bright sign by toning its "brightness" down a bit! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Will follow up. JCJ

Big C, Thanks for your previous advise! JP Customs is offering me the same thing for $ 325 !!! Gulp (swallowing sound). Delivery time three weeks, while I'm getting it today from US Speedo. Quite a margin of profit, ey? Like 100 %... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

For about $100 more and about 5 mins less I can get a new cluster in any color, and just install it.. You can buy the entire gauge cluster and just install it..

The $325 price from JP Customs is for the complete cluster not the faceplate.

Here's something to think about.
I just talked to them (JP Customs) before the holiday about a faceplate upgrade and they told me they stopped carrying the faceplates for the 2003-up models.
They said they got an Advisory from Delco warning against removing the needles on the 2003-up clusters. They told me basically that Delco said the new clusters aren't made to have the needles pulled off. Delco said the clusters are made so the needles go on once and pulling them off could pull off the stem with the needle. Basically breaking that particular gauge.
One of the guys at JPC said they had experienced the stem coming off with the needle a couple of times when they did a faceplate upgrade.
I looked on their website and didn't see the faceplates anymore, so you may want to be careful when you pull off your needles.

JCJ

Aha, now I understand why US Speedo stresses very much about being very very carefull when handling the needle part. And why JP Customs' part is more expensive. Thanks for the input, MountainH2!

US Speedo includes a tool for needle removal, but that might not keep it from damaging the actual part. Being extremely careful is definately recommended.

JPC said the stem comes off with the needle even with the tool. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
They said they took them off their website because they didn't want a bunch of unhappy customers with broken clusters.

I wonder what USSpeedo has to say about the needles breaking the clusters? Has anyone called and asked them about it?
That would suck to spend $100 for a face and then have to go out and spend $300 to replace the cluster.

Hey gang!
Here's my H2's cluster face plate after exchange MPH for KMH.
The tech who did for me didn't have any problem with it. He didn't use the tool BTW which was included, because it didn't fit! Main thing is to keep the needle and pins STRAIGHT when pulling them out. Then even a desert fork can be used... Finaly I can keep myself to local speed limits.
