My skid plate and stock undercarriage cage are toast after that last Moab run.

What is the concensus on the best replacement/upgrade? I've hear the Rubber Duck option "has problems". So, what should I get?

I was thinking about getting a custom skid plate with a picture of your nostril on it, but that's not a bad idea.

Have you CO guys talked with Matt over at Rockware? http://www.rockware.net

I know they do custom fab stuff for Rovers and Yotas. (I used to have some of their suspension components on the D90)

He might be a good resource and they do have a rockcrawling focus. It seems like the potential customer base for H2s is large enough to justify some $ for R&D (on his end).

I'm interested in something better too. My frame rails are not too purty these days.

HAHA! Talk about a misleading thread tittle... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My undercarriage is toast too. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I had the guy at the muffler shop bend my tailpipe back into position, and noticed the cross-pipe from the drivers side cat was mashed as well. We tried to bend the cage back down, but we're going to have to take it off to straighten it. Great way to break in a new rig! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I didn't see Adams. Do we have a picture?

Won't anything else just get bent too?

The cage that Adam and Alec have look 10 times beefier than stock cage. It certainly wouldn't bend as easy at the playdoh stock cage.

All right Alec don't rub it in. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Obviously I have been behind the ball for some time now, but I am getting very close to start filling your order as well as others that have been waiting. I have been laying low and trying to get everything lined up so I don't have to make others suffer as you, Adam, and a few others have. When I get back in the game I will have the complete front skid, mid rails, and rock rails, front and rear bumpers, and roof racks, along with a couple of other neat items I have been toying with.

The stock UCP may be tubing, but the RD product is solid bar stock and doesn't bend very easily if at all.

The only options:
(1) Get some crappy Rubber Duck stuff
(2) Wait 18 months for a custom from Neil?

Is that all?

you should buy some larger tires first. Than you won't hit as hard. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif And don't let Shaggy spot you either; That should help a lot. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I still remmeber in Moab that Finally's Rubber Duck UCP was falling off. It held up well (I think) excpet the factory mounting points were stripping out.

Neil, when's the H3 UC stuff coming out? Will the H35 be out by than? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

My Rubberduck UCP is 1" SOLID STEEL. Trust me when I said it's tough as hell cause I had a hell of a time trying to straigthened it (using Drty's method of turning it upside down on a 4x4 and driving over it). I drove over it at least 10x, and when I put it back on, I got MAYBE 1/4" clearance.

Btw, this was the first time I had to straightened it after numerous wheeling including 2 John Bull trails (where rock THUMPS! is a constant event http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) in over 20K miles.

It fell off on Golden Spike because the mounting holes on the factory frame are crap (PhilD can confirm), and I lost most of the factory bolts; though I'm sure the weight of the Rubberduck is a contributing factor (mustta weigh at least 5x the stock tubes). On his suggestion, I ended up re-taping all of em to a larger diameter bolt.

I understand H20's design is superior because it protects a much wider area (whereas the Rubberduck is almost just a beefier replacement), and simply top of the line quality.

I've had Rubber Duck's UCP for about 1 1/2 years and have not had any problems. I've been through several boulder fields/dry creek beds. The other H2's with stock UCP on the trip were bent up pretty good.

Negative,
you would only have to wait 18 months if you wanted the items 18 months ago. I am not going to shoot myself in the foot again and say when exactly I am going to be ready but I am trying to have everything (not just the Underbody stuff) done and ready to go aroud February.

Just a tid bit of info; solid bar is only about 1.25 times stronger in column strength vs. a pipe of the same diameter. The impact strength of solid bar is better but the strength to withstand bending is not that much greater. Thus the need for a better design in contact points to the frame and different structural material is needed for the best protection. It has been a while but if I recall correctly I selected the material that I used for my midrails because it was 5 times stronger than that of round pipe. Sorry if that was to much info.
