Was it a Goodyear tire ad? Or a HUMMER ad?

Or a Michelin ad?

It was a FULL two page add of a H2 "floating in the air" with water coming off spinning tires, you can see the underside of the H2...on the spare you can read Goodyear AT EXTREME, and I think WRANGLER.

It was a HUMMER ad, 3rd page of National Geographic ADVENTURE mag SEP. 2006 Says "picture of an 2007 H2"

Tires look like wimmpy street treads!!!

All 2007 H2s will have Goodyear tires on them. Same size (315/70/17), just a different brand, from BFG to Goodyear

The GY AT Extreme looks more of street tire than the BFG AT. Looks like a special tire for the H2, as it is only available in one size according to the GY site, 315/70R17.

They look like crap.

I just checked the Goodyear website and this is the same tire in the ad

http://www.goodyeartires.com/goodyeartireselector/display_tire.jsp?prodline=Wrangler+AT+Extreme&mrktarea=Light+Truck&treadwidth=&aspectratio=&rimdiameter=&sidewall=

even shows the tire on a hummer rim....my moms Lincoln tires look more aggressive that those!!!

probablywhy they show the 4 tires spinning in the ad...you can't see the weak ass golf cart tires....

That sucks hpefully BFG will still be an option. GM really wants these to be street queens WTF? I just dont get the marketing, etc. All that is new is more bling and sh!tty tires fcuk that.

That's why we probably won't ever see a REAL HUMMER with a SFA and all the offroad goodies Jeep is putting into their new rigs.

I just got the bible of 4X4 catalogues (almost 1,200 pages of supplier & product listings), and the amount of stuff in there for Jeeps is staggering... and the amounts of items in there for Hummers is not worth mentioning unless your blinging your rigs. One thing for sure is that the H3 will soon surpass the H2 in aftermarket items, the market is responding very favorably to the owners of those units.

well, to offer some counter to the indictment of the H2 for its independent front suspension

-i think the H1 guys originally ragged on the H2 for not having 4-wheel IDS, no? Real hummers have 4-wheel IDS and so forth?

-sometimes solid axles in the front aren't so great (or the back for that matter). Just a simple example would be that driving through some tall grass in my jeep while a friend followed in the H2, i took an awful blow to axle that was just a poke at the skid plate on the H2. Tall grass, couldn't see the rock. In an H1, you'd have just plopped on by with nothing at all. If the H2 had the same clearance as it has now, but IDS both places, it wouldn't have required any caution.

I know that isn't the kidn of wheeling that you've said you prefer, phil (i think i've seen you post that you liked rock crawling the best), and this isn't some competitive thing or whatever else, but i think its insanely relaxing to just mosey (sp?) around the country where pickups fear to tread. Its alot less relaxing when you also fear to tread.

I built a little strap-on "warning" thing for the front skid that is just lower than the rear diff's clearance to kind of give warning for the tiems you have to pamper the solid rear diff when in tall brush or grass. If a rock that threatens the rear is present, it hits that (hopefully) to warn you to be careful. I can post a picture if anybody cares.

Also, in snow i can't imagine an H2 has any chance of keeping up with an H1 due to lower clearance and more stuff to drag (the rear axle), and more weight. I don't mean 2" of snow making sort of muddy stuff, i mean 2 feet (edit by my coworkers request: 2 feet or more of packed drifts) of drifted snow you have to whale your way through.

And again, snow might not mean anything to you guys, but it will ultimately define for me whether my H2 is good or just ok offroad in my eyes.

Hence i simply offer that i'm not entirely sad about having IFS. And i like the ride quality. :)

There just aren't enough H2s sold to justify a big aftermarket, maybe? If one assumes the same % of H2's, H3's, LR3s, and Wranglers go offroad, then you'd maybe have

most parts for wranglers
then FJs/Tacos
then H3s
Then H2s
then JR3s
then Mercedes G500s

Market drives design, or so the saying goes, and there's no point in designed aftermarket offroad parts for a Benz that sells 1500 units a year. H3's have probably already pased H2s for unit sales, FJs probably will soon, etc.

And on a side note rleated to my snow comments: i'm gonig to feel like a monkeys rear if the H2 can't out-plow a 3/4 ton pickup this winter, as probably half a dozen hunter-friends have begged me to drive them around during hunting season. SO SCREW SOLID FRONT AXLES! hee hee :D :D :D

the h2 is great in the snow...we have moved a few mountains" with 2x4s plywood and bungee cords, real plow will probably be a miracle

31_bandits
08-16-2006, 01:11 AM
man, i hope its good in snow. when i say plow i just mean shove itself through 3 foot drifts and ditches and stuff.

my neighbor bought a 3/4 suburban with an 8 liter, and gave it a lift and got 33 inch tires. (he's a very nice guy and means this in fun) And he says the reason was to make sure i didn't have the best hunting truck. lol. his theory is that the wider tires on my truck will be my doom. It will take years to live it down if my hummer gets schooled by some farm trucks with a ton or two of sand bags in the back. :D :O :D

EDIT: see, if you take a big farm truck and load it up, by the time you're stuck you sometimes have to crawl out the window as the snow is too deep to open the door. that isn't some internet jabber, people just like to hunt and have fun and tell stories about their silliness, so they get a little carried away.

I saw the tires at Homecoming in July. I asked the Hummer person why they made the change, because I said they looked stupid. She said it's the global tire for the H2, and they wanted (for whatever the hell reason) to have the same tire on the domestic H2. WTF? GFY Supremely Hard for making such a dumbass desicion. The A/T TA's got laughs from the H1 elite, these new tires will surely be the butt end of many jokes.

alot of the threads posted in recent months make me wonder if simply organizing some polls on the forum and sending a polite letter to the hummer folks, or organizing a group letter or whatever might not be a bad idea.

if they didn't know 36% of people take them offroad... well, maybe it wouldn't be impossible to influence some decisions and get the option of some really good tires.

Maybe its not completely impossible to get some kind of improved "adventure package". front locker wired into the auto-disconnect system, the slinky shocks from para's "i want one of these" thread, and a stainless front skid plate, and extended underbody protection.

But i'm not sure that backhanded insults aimed at H2 drivers at large are helpful to much of anything. I think the hummer world needs a big injection of positivity.

Good for you it sounds like you made the right decision for your non offroading, mileage caring, bling liking self! Now Go to the denali forum and get them all to pat you on the back as well! Way to go you are way smarter than all of us DUMMER owners! Oh and when you want to take it to moab or tellico, give me a call, I would love to see its "capability" out on the trails.

I agree with you. HUMMER needs to take more input from owners like those that post on this forum. This concerns what options the vehicles need, how to run the advertising, and how to promote a better image.

We could all protest by congregating and throwing a large number of Goodyear ATs into the bay, like at the Boston Tea Party.

In pictures the new GYs look like minivan tires. But in person they're not bad. The tread isn't bad at all. I'm curious to see how they'd perform on snow and ice.
