Bling: Anything Shiney Chrome or sparkly

Non Bling:

Anything Black PowderCoated
Rattle-can parts
Parts with a matte black finish

So those are the two catagories to place your rig when customizing the exterior of your H2.

Where does BLACK CHROME fall into?

You could have 22" black chrome rims and that would be bling in my book. But add 40" MT tires and it becomes non bling IMO.

What about door buckets, door handles, rear vents, hood handles. If they are bright chrome, you have BLING. What if they are Titanium or Black Crome? WHat catagory does that fall into?

Phil, I consider my H2 practical, but looks good as well. Not saying it is for show, but I like the way it looks: A nice clean conservative look, but is still functional and it does get it's share of offroading. One close look and the blemishes in the paint will tell the trauth;)

I know you already put me in the bling category because of my shiney black fender flares, but what if you saw all the scratches up close that I already got on them? Would you still consider them bling with the scratches?

Now IMO, Tomp, your truck is not bling to me at all. You have off road tires (Not rubberbands) and your truck just has off road bling accessories.:D Becasue you have shiney fenders doesn't really put you into the bling catagory IMO. Your truck is practical and can still be used off road.

If you saw my truck, you might say my truck looks like an off roader that has never been off pavement. I detail my truck quite often..esp. after a weekend out playin in the mountains or Moab. If I scrape the bumper or frame, it gets painted up ASAP.

I have wheeled with some off road bling rides. My first H2 had bling for half of fit's lifef in my garage. The mag chloride they put on the roads here changed my trucks. Anything shiney patic, billet, or aluminum get copper marks and looks terrible. So that's the main reason all my acc's are black.

The reason for my Q's about titanium or black chrome: I was looking for feedback from those that have it and how they used it> was it used as bling or used as a mod to an off road rig? How did it hold up? I'm wonderring how black chrome would do against the mag chloride?

Tomp, our first H2 was along the lines of yours:
Some bling, but still practical to wheel. We didn't have scratches because I taped up EVERYTHING.

Big Nasty, minimal bling, just the wheels that I rarely clean.:)

Bling, In my book, is garbage put on just to look cool.

TOMP, yours ain't BLING in my eyes ! It's an awesome truck !

I don't consider mine BLING either. I just ordered the delta lightbar (like TOMP's), but still won't be BLING at all.

In my opinion, bling consitsts of anything on the vehicle that's sole purpose is cosmetic. Doesent matter if you powder coat 22" wheels its still bling since they are soely for apperance enhancement (does not imporve perfomance in any way). However, if you put on a chrome roof rack, it is not purely bling due to the fact it enhances the performance/capacity of the vehicle. Therefore a big chrome exhaust is not purely bling, but it still is Ghey. Understand????:p

I think there should be three categories:

1. Pure bling: (big wheels, chrome dorhandles, grilles, hood guns, body colored moldings, Woodgrain, other chrome, titanium, shiny painted "acessories". Basically anything you would see in "DUB" magazine.

Member example: Humbob

2. Blingy: (chrome 18's w/ 37" M/T or A/T's, chrome roofracks, brushguards, chrome exhaust, etc.) things that do enhance performance, but also add "flair" as the blingers like to call it...

Member example: H2Rocks

3. Non-Bling: Powder coated anything so long as the intent was to make the object easier to clean, hide brake dust, reduce glare, without any preformance reducing side effect. Also, winches, racks (ss included as its function is to prevent rusting), Fabtech tie rods (as they only come in a bright finish), anything coated in bedliner, anything hiding factory bling that was unavoidable (ie bedlining the mirrors). Bumpers that improve angles, lights that are not of the neon variety, etc.

Member examples: Me or Neocon 1.

Not to say some bling doesn't look good, HummBob's H2 looks fine if you like that kind of thing. But some just look like chrome wedding cakes and lack any taste. The worst ones are usually covered with all those silly stick on bits of chrome, which don't even look good even if you like chrome.

Thanks Phil, I'll take that as a compliment!! http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l223/HummBob/wink.gif

I do know what you mean. I tried to BLING mine with a little taste. I'm not a fan of the rigs with chromed EVERYTHING, just cause it's there. I tried to be conscious of what I was doing aesthetically! http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l223/HummBob/sleezy.gif

I AM DONE with the Chrome, again, I never wanted to OVERDUE it (though I just got my skid plate back from Brite Lee-looks AMAZING), but I'm not installing it til next spring (i bought a 2nd one to polish, the original is still on)!

I have alot of blingers PM'ing me telling me I have to add the Billet Chrome Rear Vents, but I think for me it's TOO MUCH! http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l223/HummBob/spak1.gif

At the end of the day, it is your truck, and you should be able to do whatever pleases you.

I enjoy changing the look of my truck every few weeks (or days :giggling:) -- and by NOT limiting myself to "oh, it's gotta be BLACK" or "gotta be BLING", I enjoy more freedom, fun, and pleasure from this absolutely-like-nothing-else vehicle!

In that case a lot of "blacked" out trucks would be bling ;)

There is no real benefit to powder coating rims etc, except appearance. They are no more practical than regular rims, less so in fact, as it gets scratched off and needs to be touched up. Rattle canning is definitely more practical, but still a touch of the same.

Changing out chrome door handles etc just shows you were a blinger and bowed to peer pressure ;) :D

Mine is an adventure and the only factory bling were the mirrors. Dorr handles were black. Also the black wheels help hide brake dust and reduce glare to other wheelers who may be blinded by chrome wheels while trying to spot, etc.:D :D , so are functional!:D

I agree with Alan about the bling....but there is nothing wrong with it. The H2 is a beast and it should remain that way and not pavementized with rubberbands...but it could use a little beauty.

To put street tires and 22's on a vehicle that comes with a front reciever hitch, an advanced 4 wheel drive system and a locking rear diff is just silly.

Lets go put some spinners and chrome on a Cat 797B (http://equipmentlisting.com/cat/797b.jpg) for those who have never seen one.

Fixed ;)

Looks good, just need to get rid of those mother-in-law steps ;)

Agreed...of course they come off when i wheel(which seems to be never). I would like to have the new le set up with steps integrated into the rocker bars. I also need to ditch the 35in Procomps for 37in toyo mts.

I don't understand why everyone thinks bling scratches if you go off road. I think it holds up well, if it's not the plastic stick on stuff. Yes, there is such a thing as too much, but everyone has their own agenda with their car. Spray painting it black, UGH! pleaze!;)

I have a friend that has a black H2 that was trying to change out all the plastic black with black bling, or whatever you call it. The first time he had it detailed, the pressure washer blew it to bits. The black coating started to peel off. Since then, he's changed to chrome. He didn't really want to, but since SMA is out of business, the dealer was trying to take care of him and replace his stuff under warranty. My husband was telling me that the coating wasn't the right thickness. I guess there's a fine line to getting that stuff to stay on properly, and since SMA went belly up no one ever got around to making the coating stick on properly. (please feel free to disagree if you know otherwise)

I guess we'll see the BLING machines in action on the Rubicon tomorrow!
H2Finally and H2Rocks conduct bling research in the wilderness in Northern California! At least they'll know where to land the helicopter...;) :D It's good to feel needed.

BTW, the lady in the parking lot tonight said she saw all of us pull in, but really liked the ones with all the chrome!:fdance:

Good for them. Good to see someone is representing us blingers.

I'd go too but the fording capabilities would need to be improved before I could drive the beast from HI out there.
