What does everyone have for survival gear. I have always thought i was Rambo and could live forever in a emergency situation . But it wouldnt be to hard to throw in a tupperware box full of safety stuff . What is good stuff to have on hand? And do most carry survival gear of any type with them? Could you make it stranded for 7 days in the heat or snow? Doug

We have a lot of stuff and don't go out in the snow due to our location: First aid kit, tools, lighter, knife, axe....stuff we have gathered if in an emergency while out on the trail.

but I found these tips in an article about the recent story.:)

Before you venture out, assemble a winter survival kit: Flashlight and extra batteries. Candles and coffee tin. Matches/lighter. Blankets/warm clothing. Granola bars, candy, sugar cubes. First aid kit. Booster cables. Shovel and tow rope. Flares or other signal aids.
If you're trapped in your car, keep calm. The No. 1 rule is to stay in the car unless there is a house or other building close by.
Put your car to use: a hubcap or sun visor can be used as a shovel; seat covers can be used as blankets; and floor mats can block wind.
Engine oil burned in a hubcap creates a smoke signal visible for miles. To start, prime with a little gasoline, which you can get from your tank with a wire and tissue or rag.
Don't forget your horn. It can be heard from as far as a mile downwind. (Three long blasts, 10 seconds apart, every 30 minutes, is a standard distress signal.)
For warmth and signal, burn a tire (but not on the car!). Release the air pressure and use gasoline, oil or any other means to ignite it.
Run the motor and heater for about 10 minutes per hour, opening one window slightly to let in fresh air. To reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, make sure snow is not blocking the exhaust pipe.
Clap your hands, move your arms and legs or do other exercises to keep circulation going. But avoid overexertion. Cold weather puts added strain on the heart.
Tie a brightly colored cloth to the antenna as a signal to rescuers and raise the hood of the car (if it is not snowing).
Take turns on watch if there is more than one person. If you are alone, do not go to sleep. You will be less vulnerable to cold-related health problems.
Wrap your entire body, including your head, in extra clothing, blankets, or newspapers.
Do not eat unmelted snow because it will lower your body temperature.

We pack our Go bags depending on the who/what/when/where. If you are in S. Texas you are not preparing exactly as you do if you are in Maine.

It's just like I pack up my truck differently to go wheel in Grayrock AL than I do in Katemcy Rocks in Texas.

Minimum I keep MREs, knifes, lighters, first aid, basic tools and some type of extra clothing. All that is in my truck at all times smushed and shoved into different places.

The additions, depend on what and where we are going.

I have used these around the world. Only place I never had a signal was in the boonies of Indonesia. Besides the price for air time they are a life saver.

Thanks for all the ideas. I am going to put together a kit for our vehicles. Right now I only have a leatherman knife . :o I dont even carry the spare tire in the H2 . Twice in 22 years I have been stuck in snow and had to spend the night in a camp . But have always been able to get out the next day from shoveling or snow vehicles pulling me out. This is a pic of one time we got stuck. We were driving where we shouldnt have been , but camp was real close. We got stuck and stayed the night at camp. The next day we spent most of the day shoveling out. I also ruined the tread of the tires spinning them .

Those are some great tips on what to keep in your truck

I was snowed in an old VW bug for about 24hrs. All we had left after our backpacking trip was some cheese nip crackers, honey and Southern Comfort. Not the best survival food.

Now if we had some MRE's, Beef Jerky and Jack Daniels we would have been fine!

I believe the required items for a survival kit in Belgium include
1. Bottle Opener
2. Cork Screw
3. Cheese Knife
4. Bear/Mime Repellent

Yes, no doubt. Sometime , I'm gonna cannabilize that thing for something to do. But until then its wifey & kids ride. Just looked at the speedo today. 107,000 miles.

I did mine with 50some K miles. Though I had some unusual problems (go figure), I'd do it all over again.

Now that I've got 70K miles on the engine, I'm adding a SC..... better late than never.
