View Full Version : My H20 Custom Roof Rack...
...just arrived. Wow. Neil Dana's work is great.
After seeing the first pictures of his H2 racks in November I contacted him about making me a low profile version. After he got done with Bebe's H3 project, he redesigned a few parts of the rack to reduce the height a little and to extend the cross braces over the sunroof area since I don't have one. It was a long wait, but it finally arrived today. Here is is fresh out of the box.

This is a picture Neil sent me from test fitting it on his 2.

I'll post mounted pictures soon, once I find some time.
Now Neil can get to work on CO's stuff ;)

I don't know if he'll make more like this or not. You can PM him (H2Oguy) to see what he's willing to do.

Cool mod ! I just ordered the Gobi roof rack / tire carrier !
Hope to see it installed soon !
Uh, your garage isn't painted. Soooooo ghetto.;)
You guys that know Neil need get him to install some expanded metal on the rack so you can walk around easier and safer up there.

I know. Our last place was. We paid good money to be on a nice lake and build a big place. We skimped here and there on things we could easily do later.:crying:In due time.
It's on. But it was late and dark when I finished. Real pictures tomorrow.

Nice ! Are you gonna add some lights ?

Neil has some metal plates to put in strategic locations. The entire rack is tapped for mounting these or anything else you want to bolt down. I think he wanted to keep the weight down by not including a mesh decking. But it certainly could be added.

I like an unpainted garage, it's manly. And you need all the manly you can get to make up for those mittens.;):D j/k

IMO adding the mesh to walk on is very important. I'm up walking around on my GOBI all the time. Sometimes I take it to the Beach and even do some naked Tai Chi up there :jump:

Those mittens are awesomely warm. Circulation in my fingers isn't that good and it's cold here in the winter.
Same as last one but on a better camera:

Shows lines of the rack along the roof:

Closeup of mounting tabs (z-clips Neil calls them). 3 bolts into a "nut plate" in the rails. 2 bolts holding the rack and the z-clips together. The clips and nut plates are tapped so there's no need for loose nuts or a second wrench. Makes for an easy install:

The wind fairing is machined with 7 light mounting points along the bottom of the fairing and 7 along the top:

Up on a snow bank a bit to get a glimpse up on the roof. The snow was too squishy to get really far up.

frenzy, I plan to do some lights at some point. I'm undecided on what kind yet and probably will only do 2 or 3 along the bottom level of the wind fairing.

:iagree: I'm trying to convince Bebe to put red LED's behind hers so it lights up when she brakes. :giggling:

That rack is awesome. How does one get in touch with "Neil"? I see the H2OHummers website is not up yet. I would be interested in a rack like that.

Thanks Sewie!
One more shot where you can see it up on the roof more.
I've been super busy, but plan to figure out how to remount my CB antenna (which was right under the DS front corner of the rack and won't fit any more) and some of my other gear really soon. Hopefully, the pre-tapped cross members will simplify that some.
