Well, I don't know why I ever read Autospies because their readers are just horrendously stupid. But it's like some bad addiction I suppose. Anyway, this is a response to the Forbes list of the best off-road vehicles for 2006. I think hilarity may ensue...

Note: I find it incredibly amusing how many of these people absolutely seem to loathe the H2 but think the H3 is acceptable. It's like the H2 is seen as "soft". In fact, a lot of people I've heard from or talked to list the Hummers, best to worst H1, H3, H2. Intriguing.

Autospies Forbes List and Forum Responses (http://www.autospies.com/article/index.asp?articleId=7067)

The Article:
Because most SUV's aren't taken off road you're seeing less and less articles picking the ones that are the best off the pavement.

You'll be surprised just how small the list really is these days.

Here's Forbes magazine's choices:

Hummer H1 Alpha
Hummer H2
Mitsubishi Montero
Land Rover LR3
Toyota FJ Cruiser
Land Rover Range Rover
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Lexus LX 470
Lexus GX 470

Do they all deserve to be on this list?

What models are missing?

Even though you can't buy one in the USA these days (except on the used market) we'd put the Land Rover Defender somewhere near the top.

I have to agree. Hummers = no other.

I used to drive a Land Cruiser (a 1999), and I was not impressed with it. It wasn't designed like a Hummer is for off-roading. I bet it would drag, bump, and scrape on everything. So that would apply to the LX470 as well.

Yeah the petersens article (this month) even admits that they chose the h3 over h2 w/o driving either b/c it comes off less offensive and can have a manual tranny. Nice objectivity....

I guess Forbes and the people who commented never follow the Best in the Desert races. It seems all the Hummer finish either in first place or very close in second, in stock classes.
Then again, what the Forbes know about off-road vehicles, along with most of the people making comments.
