H2: I LOVE IT! The interior is just incredible, amazing! The new grille with the HUMMER letters below it is a cool touch, maybe a little too much considering nobody will mistake the vehicle for anything else but a HUMMER :giggling:

H3: Frickin' sweet, new engine, the new lower 'bumper' piece is a nice touch.

I'm so damn excited now :jump:

H2 OHHH!

Was worried about getting a 2007 because of a design change in 2008 but after looking at that I'm glad I got the 2007. The interior looks like my Wife's 2007 Escalade (which is extremely elegant and belongs in an Escalade) and the two tone leather is ghey. Just my .02

I just don't see it, they look nothing alike. The sweeping curves and elegance of the Escalade vs the rugged, sharp edged lines of the new H2 interior.

They really pulled it off, bringing quality, comfort and an updated look while staying with a rugged and heavy duty appearance. GM designers win again :beerchug:

Here's a pic, yeah, they look sooooo alike :twak: :jump:

Well, i have to say I am glad I got my 2007 this month as the outside did not change much at all and at 70mph on the highway not many people will notice. The interior is ok, not great but not terrible. I would like it alot better if it wasnt for that orange brown as I dont think that will work for all exterior colors.

I realize that these are preliminary photographs, but I could not find any OnStar controls in the interior shots. I know that you can access it through steering wheel controls on some GM vehicles, but I would prefer a more central location.

Those colours might be optional. The new GM SUVs offer it as a package, otherwise you get wheat or ebony. I am sure that details will be available soon.

I hate the orange/brown two-tone. I like the dash as it looks a lot cleaner. It needs to be black on black on chrome. Not sure if I'm crazy about moving the HUMMER letters down off the grille. I'll be at the NY show and looking forward to checking it out. H3 Alpha is a nice boost from the 5 cylinder, should make it more of a fun ride.

It's nice, maybe the interior has grown on me a bit, but the exterior changes (more crome?) don't do much for me...anyway, overall, I dont see anything compelling (other than the full 3rd row which I would hardly use anyway) about the upgrade to make me want to trade-up. A diesel would seal the deal....maybe '09.

Somehow I doubt many changes would be delivered in '09 given this refresh? Don't they normally wait 3-5 years before significant changes to compel owners to upgrade?

LOVE IT!!

I like it a lot! The only thing I don't like is the 3rd row seating (eats up the whole trunk) and I don't know how I feel about 'HUMMER' under the grill... It looks too Range Rovery for me... I kinda miss the dash knockers too. Other than that, I like the new appointments, especially the new front end skidplate setup. It looks very tough! -Tough enough to scrape Prius' out of... :giggling:

It's supposed to be about 2mpg better city AND highway. The engines going to have an easier time moving the H2's heft because of it's increased power. The big improvement comes from the new six speed tranny. The rear (and front for that matter)gear ratio will be higher because of the extra gears in the tranny. The '08 H2 will be running down the highway at a few hundred less rpm than the previous gen.

Looks like we may be trading the Denali in for one of these suckers!!!!

H3- Alpha! saweet!!! wonder what the transmission is going to be. 5.3L V-8 290 HP and 317 Lb-Ft torque= AWSOME!!! Is this in addition to the Current H3's I-5 or is it totally replacing it?

That's what I heard. Think about it, most people are getting 11-14mpg in 'em so getting 13-16 is a HUGE leap. When you add the fact that it's going to be even faster, it's a monstrous improvement.

I like all of it. I do wish they had an H2 alpha with less chrome. However, I can see my self getting one of those newer ones. The interior is sweet. BFG's are a welcome return!

E85??? Does the caddy motor accept E85???DOD is cool. Off road should be improved with the added power. Especially on steep hill climbs. Mine sometimes bogs down even if I fool the Traction control.

It's not enough, it must break the 20 mpg mark if it'll be brag worthy. With the 6 speed and DOD, 2 mpg improvement doesn't sound right. Considering the sales of the H2 lately and gas prices, I think anything short of 20 won't help sales at all, new interior/motor or not.

What are the new requirements that automakers must meet anyway?

I'm not a fan of the piping on the leather. Wear wise, it's not good. I'd like to see a tucked under tough stitch instead like the stitches on a baseball. Hey, there's an idea for us baseball fans! A pro baseball model with white leather seats, red stitching and appointments for your favorite team! Or maybe glove leather seats with the burned in logo of your favorite player.

Or NFL edition with genuine pigskin seats etc.

'Nuther idea, how 'bout a Swiss Army Knife edition.

I like it! Stabilitrak with Rollover Mitigation is a HUGE safety improvement. Those technologies are considered to be as important as seatbelts. I like the new setup inside. Seems like it will make the interior feel even larger. I wonder if that bulge on the rear passenger side is a subwoofer? Or maybe a nice big air compressor.

'mitigate'...nice euphemism for "our lawyers wouldn't let us use 'prevent' or 'reduce'" To mitigate a rollover really means to make it seem less worse than it actually could have been.

I really like the idea of the 6-speed trans, and, obviously more power, but, in most other areas, I like the old one better. I think the new interior looks cool, but more for a luxury vehicle. I like the more-busy look to the old dash. The old dash still looks like it belongs on an expensive and unique vehicle, but it looks more utilitarian, rather than the luxury car feel the new one gives me. Things I like better about the old one: the grab bar on the passenger side; the center consol with the up/down armrests; the three cigar/sunglass compartments above my head (I have no sunroof, but I assme they are completely gone from the new model); the old vents (way more utilitarian than the newer, sleeker ones); though I haven't touched the new ones, I'm pretty sure I like the old, bigger dash controls much better--they must be easier and quicker to find/use than the new Star Trek version. All of these things are more than offset by the additional power and the 6-speed trans, but, comparing apples to apples, I like the old interior better. Other than that, at least they didn't mess the H2 up by putting ghey roundy curves on the outside. My guess is that most people won't tell the difference between an 08 and an 07 in traffic, unless they are paying very close attention. To me, that's a good thing. The H2, as it is and as it was, is one of the only vehicles I like to ride behind in traffic because it's just so damn great-looking. To me, there was a lot more room for ruining the look of the vehicle than improving it. I'm glad they didn't do that.

I'm amazed you can definitively say it's an M, but then again, I don't think it could be anything other than H or R. What would H be? Wrong spot for Reverse.

Is it what GM calls the DSC (Driver Shift Control) mode that they have in the 2007 Escalades, other caddies, vettes and some of the pontiacs? If so, here exactly are the "tap-up/tap-down" controls that a lot of the GM docs on this feature describe?

That's the description I found too, but I was wondering what controls do you use to do the manual shifting. Is it something where you bump the gear selector right and left like in some sports cars? Or is it paddle shifters behind the new wheel?

Wylee72

BlueHUMMERH2
03-28-2007, 02:28 AM
They've been putting the paddle shifters behind the wheel now I suppose because it is rather silly reaching down to make the shift when you aren't doing anything directly that influences the transmission. It's all electronic. So they could be hiding there on the wheel.

I had mentioned the tie rods because from the pics, they look the same as the current ones. I have never had a problem with them however.

I would assume this engine is compatible with E85. This assumption relates back to the idea that Hummer has said it will be the first brand to offer alt. fuels on every model. E85 gets worse mileage than gas however contrary to a previous poster.

I think in person the "orange" will look better. The BMW X3 has a similar color interior (terracotta), and it's much better than in the photos that were originally released.

That's the description I found too, but I was wondering what controls do you use to do the manual shifting. Is it something where you bump the gear selector right and left like in some sports cars? Or is it paddle shifters behind the new wheel?
On my dad's Saab, when you put it in 'Sport' mode, you can switch gears by giving the gas pedal a quick pump down and up... Maybe that could be incorperated... (Both GM products...)

One of our suppliers (of bluetooth) said they had gotten the Hummer contract and it was going to be standard in 08...we'll see if that turns out to be true.
Having a car with Bluetooth is amazing. Will never buy a car without it. If the new H2 has it, that's one more reason to move from my H3.

Awesomeness Fstop, guru of HUMMER!

There is no longer any question about manual mode. It's there:

I would assume there are paddle shifters.

SOOO MANY BUTTONS! :D

Would it kill them to make at least an SUV shaped recycler icon? Maybe a Hummer shaped one?

2 questions here:

With the new 4 wheel drive switch thing, how do you put the transfer case into neutral??? VERY VERY important feature if you need to flat tow the H2 behind a motorhome....A know a few people whos deciding feature was the ability to put the t case in neutral to tow the H2!

Rollover mitagation. How does this work, what does it do to avoid a rollover?

No diesel yet DAMIT. 2009 will have it! GM are you there? WE ALL WANT A DURAMAX IN THE H2 and WILL PAY A PREMIUM for IT. Give us what we want!

Look at the t/case switch real close...see the N (not white), just to the right of 4-low lock.

From what I have seen, you will never get a DMAX in the H2, unless you put it in yourself.

I like the old interior much better, all things considered, with all the upgrades alot of us have done to our rigs our interiors are in pretty damn great condition along with the Nav and stero upgrades. Cosmetics are okay, but where it really counts is in the suspension and off road handling capabilities, I still see the same old Tie rod, Pitman and idler problems have not been addressed, nor has anything been done to beef up the CV's or spider gears in the front diff. There is a reason COGNITO built the Idler & Pitman support bracket, Fabtech designed a better tierod and Moog built better CV's...it's called a design problem! 6th gear...whoopadee doo...don't care for it. That new motor and tranny is an excellent upgrade. I don't know about the other things on your list though, but they're good points. I don't think anyone's mentioned if they've improved those or not.

I was talking to a first hand knowledgeable person today and the orange interior in the pictures, isn't going to be that orange. The leather in those rigs is messed up. It should be fixed for the production runs.

Again, the 6.2 and six speed is an awesome setup. The deeper first and second gears allow a taller gear ratio. Two mpg increase across the board will be a good deal for H2 sales. We may be buying one.

I think you can get the rearview mirror on any model, not just the LE's. I liked my old setup better with the standalone camera and hitch mounted camera. The camera mount on the one I looked at pointed too low in my opinion.

When looking at the new GM interiors that have come out within the last year, I did not like the change in the seats. I find the old seat design, still in the '07 H2, to be much more comfortable.

I like they are trying with the interior but they really need to spend some time on the technology. As was previously mentioned, really need bluetooth. Also could try a little bit harder on the stereo, its a shame to pay 55K or more and to have that poor of sound. Hopefully the new NAV will also be acceptable. Hard to imagine that you can't operate the NAV and listen to a CD at the same time. Almost didn't renew because of the technology. I loved my '03 but the shortfall of very common technology discouraged me.

I also echo the desire for the diesel but last I heard was not to expect it before the 2010 model and maybe 2011. That will Be perfect timing to trade my '07.

Well given the H2 comes with an IPOD plug-in, I can see why they wouldn't have a CD player. Maybe in 2008.

I could see if you made the statement about casettes but it is a little early to be pushing CD's the way of the 8-track. CD sales a definitely declining but still a few of us hanging out here with the plastic. Even have some vinyl hanging around the house.

A hummer tech told me you will be able to get H1's through AM General, but only with the military style interior. He also said they re-designed the hood and cooling systems and added a bilge pump system instead of having to use the plugs to sink them when fording deep water. I dont know if this is ture or not, but he definatley knows what he is talking about when it comes to all Hummers and I doublt he would make all of that up. I would imagine quite a few still use CDs, or at least everyone I know. Of course I could ask why use an Mp3 or Ipod when you can get a hard drive in the radio head.

mechanically, i really like the 08 model. a larger displacement motor with cylinder on demand is a great feature. Also, the stability/yaw control is and the 6 speed trans is a good added feature. Paddle or driver controlled shifts for towing of off-roading sure, why not.

However, the thing i love about my h2 is that it looks like an h2 and "nothing else" being built by am general is great and all. Thus, with the new 08, i really dont like the looks or the way GM has tailored it to look LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE it sells. Your not gonna look at that interior and not see a mix of a tahoe/escalade/silverado. That center section with the polished outline is what almost every other GM has...

and that is why i dont like this new model. It seems to have stepped away from what AM G. designed with GM's help to something almost strictly from a GM design department. I see no 'hummer' in that interior, where we spend most of our time.. and that kinda gets to me a bit. Not a complete overkill just not what i excepted.

The rear a/c vents and other features are great... they should of just tweaked an interior that says hummer, not GM.

EDIT: Well, i will say that the black interior pics are awesome! But not hummer and that sh!t just kinda kills it for me... add some titties to it please!! That is all we need!

Even though the H2's built a lot tougher than the F-150, it's heavier, thus lowering it's tow rating. It'll be interesting to see if it goes up.

new six-speed Hydra-Matic 6L80 RWD electronically controlled automatic transmission backs the 6.2L engine. The six-speed automatic has a wide, 6.04:1 overall ratio – including two overdrive gears – that helps deliver an excellent balance of performance and fuel economy. Also, the 6L80 has a "tap up/tap down" capability that allows the driver to manually select upshifts and downshifts with a button on the column shifter. The new powertrain combination helps the 2008 H2 and H2 SUT deliver an additional 1,500 pounds (680 kg) in towing capacity – an increase from 6,500 pounds (2,948 kg) to 8,000 pounds (3,629 kg). A host of additional powertrain revisions also contributes to the H2's improved performance and efficiency, including:

Larger-capacity cooling system complements larger, more powerful engine
Electric engine cooling fans reduce "drag" on engine, enabling more horsepower
Regulated voltage control maximizes fuel economy by charging electrical components only when necessary
New LAN electrical architecture is more efficient and uses less electrical energy
Standard 3.73 rear axle ratioThis does talk about the tap up/ tap down feature for the "M" on teh shifter.

But WTF is with the 3.73 rear axle?

6l80e gears:

First: 4.02
Second: 2.36
Third: 1.53
Fourth: 1.15
Fifth: 0.85
Sixth: 0.67

4l60e/4l65e gears:

First: 3.06
Second: 1.63
Third: 1.0
Fourth/OD: 0.7

Interesting, no true 1.0 gear, thour fourth is very, very close. With the drop in rear gear ratio with the new trans, it would seem as you are still achieving a lower cruise rpm per same mph with the new trans however, not enough to possible overheat the trans/drivetrain.

Also, went through a different set of gear/mph calculators. At 2000rpm, the est. mph in our current truck is about 72ish mph with an est. 35" tire, 4.11 rear and a fourth/od of .7. Now, at 2000rpm with the new setup, est. 35" tire, 3.73 rear with the sixth .67 ratio, that bumps it up to about 83mph.

So, your increase cruise speed at a given rpm, however, there MIGHT be a bit more strain on the trans though since it has more gears, it can more evenly spread the load instead of just 4 gears with the original 4l65e.

I really like the new powertrain of the 08. Finally GM is getting to something interesting... however, im not to sure on the interior, but i have to see one in person.

Hey guys new member here!

Currently I own 5 H2's, 4 are 25 passenger limos and previously owned an H1 before the H2's came out.

These upgrades for the H2 are the biggest news ever.

Even if it only gets 2 MPG thats an increase of 15-20%, that means buying 20% less gas! Thats alot. 3 mpg would be 25-30%.

Nobodys excited of an increase of 75 horsepower before any mods? And when cruising getting 25% better gas economy, come on! You guys are crazy!!!

Rear vents and extra stuff are good too.

Ive been calling my dealer they tell me they dont have pricing on the 08's yet, they have some ordered for stock of the lot but not pricing so you can custom order exactly what options you want.

I really hope they have HID lights, how can they not offer this in a $60k+ truck? The escalades are pretty close to the same price and have them standard!

There's two on the lot in Bakersfield at 3Way Hummer. Seen 'em myself. Two Alpha H3s also, one Adventure, other not. Nice. Here's the problem, the leftovers on the lot are selling a TON under the new ones. They'll be sitting on 'em awhile I'm afraid. The timing's wrong. Had they introduced the new Hummer line last year when all the goobers were able to pull seconds on their houses, they'd be selling 'em like kegs of beer in the fall.

Anyone know if the new engine is flex-fuel (e85) capable?
Q:
When will the H2 and H3 offer biofuel engines"
A:
"We know fuel efficiency is becoming increasingly important for comsumers. Last fall we announced that we will be offer biofuel powertrains on both the H2 and the H3 in the next three years. The H2 will be the first up, with an E85Flexfuel powertrain in the 2009 model year."

Sorry

I bet the engine is the same as the cadi but the fuel system does not conform to E85s requirements.

Just bought the 2008 greystone with Sedona leather! Damn nice! I am a prior 2002 Escalade owner and this is one sweet ride. I used to hate Hummers for the crapy interior and the HUGE air vents. Now "I RIDE IN STYLE".
