View Full Version : For those that want blacked out taillamps...

I was looking at pics and noticed a few H2's that had that entire blacked out look.
If anyone wants blacked out taillamps, instead of using "covers", you can go to a bodyshop and have them use black candy on the lamps. We do it at both my shops all the time.
The black candy allows the light to still go through but gives it a dark (er)(you choose how dark you want) look.
Just for the record, using candy and clearcoat is FAR superior to buying that tint in a spray bomb.
Hope that helps any of you looking for a way to do it without buying covers.

Thanks Mark! Don't know if I'll do it, but it's good to know the RIGHT way to do it!!

Just check your state laws. FL says you must have 2 red tail lights plainly visible from 1000ft. I'd imagine it's similar elsewhere. I can see my tails from 1000ft, not to mention the extra set of tail lights in the corners of the bumper, which count. So I could 'probably' disconnect the covered tail lights and I'd still be fine.

The covers look cool but the problem is they don't shine red when the brake light is applied as much as the candy.
Candy is translucent and will allow the red to shine through candy much better.
Like I said, this thread wasn't to take away from the covers, the candy trick isn't so much a traffic stopper.
