Well, I took the Pink H2 into Car Toys today, getting the rear cam, the headrest screens, and putting the DVD player in where the ONStar was... I've only had it like 2 months, so I'm not even gonna get my free year out of OnStar, but I dont' know that I would ever use it anyway.
I will have new shots of it when I get it back tomorrow afternoon.
Oh.. .also got the crappy putco rear chrome ... thanks to the slow replies by you guys. LOL Now I wish I would have paid more, but I figure I will switch it out when we have the funds.
I'll have pics.

I never used onstar once. Ever. Such a waste of space.

I love swearing at the bitch when I'm trying to tell her the numbers and she says,"Slower, please."
I do like OnStar. (Hear that, OnStar? You better get a hold of me for a sponsorship!!http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

ROTFL! I do that too! "Is this correct?" NO you dumb ass mother bitches %^!@$%!^!
I notice with the AC on full blast she has a hard time!
Anyone?
Pics/info on an ""easy"" take-out replacement of the On-Star unit? I'd just like to use it for a storage pocket/CB pocket or something simple.

Ric,
I'm not sure what you are asking. The OnStar unit is an assembly that can be removed.
Disconnect the battery, slide the console back, remove the dash panel, and the whole OnStar unit comes out with a couple of screws. Unplug the wiring connectors and GPS antenna.
Beware that the "pocket" is kind of shallow. There is a plastic brace in the back that supports the rear of the OnStar assembly. I had to cut this brace out to install my GM CD Changer.
Hey Klaus:
Thanks for the simple removal instructions...now to finish the job, how to make it a useable pocket/hole...don't need to add a cd/cb/?...for now, just some kind of plactic insert to make it a storage slot or Kleenex holder :-), or tie rod replacement kit storage, or ??? :-)
Thanks,
Ric

Ric,
I agree with Klaus, there is not much there but you might be able to remove the face plate off of the onstar "box" and use the "box" itself. I'm not sure if the front of it is open or not.

I made a plate to fit where onstar was and use it for toggle switches.

actually, I really like the onstar phone calling feature, will be switching to verizon now so I can use it full time. I did have to use the emergency button once to inform of a bad accident on the highway and it was much easier than using a cellphone. I'm keepin it!
Just wish they would give the same plan I had in my old caddy free for one year, that included conceirge and voice guided directions and many other little helpful features.
Hey Drtyfn, thanks for the new avatar

silly question, but...
can you switch from onstar to verizon using onstar's module? i would love to do that and have hands free verizon.

Hey all,
Ok so I got the truck back, It's pretty cool, but for as much as we paid I was hoping for better, tell me if this is what I can expect?
For the DVD player they put it in where OnStar was, great, but they used and FM Modulator on it, so I have to change to the radio station to listed to CD's and to watch Movies, kinda lame.
Also, currently I'm getting a Whining sound when I accellerate with the station tuned in and the movie or CD paused. I also hear it when the movie or CD is playing, but it's not bad... but it's there.
Isn't there a mod piece that allows for multiple inputs into the factory system??
I'll have pics later when I get in to work

yes you can get mulitple inputs in factory system. I have both a dvd player and Ipod playing through the UM-8....also you need a filter for the whining, again a simple thing, that will make a world of difference. A word of advice, go back and tell them to change from FM modulator...the sound quality will never be what you want it to be. For what you probablypaid they should have done the input....can't wait to see install pics

I told them that when I picked it up they said that was the only way they knew to do it??? Can I get details on what they need to do?

Any of these would be better than an fm modulator

The only problem I have with OnStar is that if you call someplace that has an automated system you're f(_)cked. There's NO way to enter numbers.http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

You can get a small push button tone dial unit at Radio Shack. Hold it near the mike and dial the number you need.

Good idea, but wish there was a slide out key pad like in the 745.

Here are the SKUs of Radio Shacks items:
SKU/Catalog # Model Description 43-139 43-141 43-142 43-143 43-144 43-145 Pocket Tone DIaler 43-145A Pocket Tone DIaler 43-146 43-165 43-182 43-192
You might do a web search for a better unit. I have seen some very small ones used by Ham operators on old radios that didn"t have tone pad built in.

Definately....But we're talking about GM here, that little pad will probably come out by the time Lexus is offering "mind dialing" where you just think of a place and the car will automatically call it....(I could just see DRTY's phone log...Strip club....strip club....porn shop....strip club...) http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
