I've joined the ranks of those who have replaced their front windshields after following a truck too closely on a gravel road. I read a recent previous thread about replacing the front windshield. When I took my '08 into the dealer I found the '08 windshield is different from the other H2s. They made it 30% thicker and used a different sealing system to cut the cabin noise. They held it side by side with the old windshield and sure enough, you can see the difference. I also found out that Adventure Industries makes a metal bumper wedge that the parts department said they could order.

Hey HummerJim,

Thanks for the heads up. I will keep this in mind if my windshield ever goes. Appreciate the feedback. :)

Would the 08 fit other model years? Making my 06 that much better.

I broke 4, yes 4, windshields on my 03 h2, two of them in a matter of weeks. I hope the winshield in my 08 holds up better.

I'm going on windshield #3 with my 05 H2 and I'm rarely driving faster than 55mph.

Sometimes cracked windshields are due to the defogger temperature being turned up way too high. The temperature differential between the outside windshield and the interior glass (the windshield is laminated) causes the glass to break. I've seen this phenomenon on all manner of trucks.. from F350's, Nissan xterras, toyota land cruisers and my H2...

... of course, it could just be a rock but you know, just a heads up.

I wish I would have known that when I replaced my windshield last month. I called the service department and they said the '08 windshield is thicker and can be put into any year Hummer H2, but it is also 150 dollars more expensive than the one I bought. If it's thicker, quieter and resists cracking better, it might be worth it, however, most of my cabin noise comes from the wind deflector in front of the sunroof at highway speeds.

I have a 2008 SUT. I had a 2004 SUV. I have not observed that the 2008 windshield is any more resistant to breaking than the 2004. I got three stars in the 2008 windshield within the first 1,000 miles.

Good to know they improved it.
