I'd just paint them on the truck, mask off the bars and perform an aerosol overhaul.;)

I tried to repaint my OEM bars on my 05 a couple of times. After awhile the rust came back or the paint peeled. You are better off in the long run to find some better ones from Craig's list.

Odds are they are pressed in like a plastic interior trim button. Once they go in they are not made to come back out very easy.

If you are close to Cincinnati I have a set that I will sell cheap with no rust on them.

But if It was my truck I would take them off. take a wire wheel to the rust and prep them then hit them with some bedlinder in a can. I swear that stuff is just awesome.

I When I get back from wheeling I do the above step to my bumpers and rock rails and they looks just as good as new!
