Can anyone point me to a document/site where I can determine if the cab/marker lights on the top of H2s are 'required' to be 'street legal?' People say they are...and obviously GM puts them on every H2...but I'd really like to see it in writing.

I've tried to do my own research....I've spent the last hour Googling federal vehicle standards and can't find anything about what vehicles are required to have cab/marker lights.

Thanks in advance...and I live in Maryland (in the event that 'state and local laws may apply'). Googling that didn't help my search either.

There is a link that applies to trailers from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. The light laws for motor vehicles are the same I just can't find you a similar table. Look near the bottom of the chart for the laws that effect the hummer...

So yes the H2s are required to have marker and clearence lights.

And forward colors have to match law, the same with rear.
Laws have gotten tighter over time. At one time only 1 ton or bigger required cab lights and if anything smaller had them law was they just had to be all lighted up or none.
Oh Well a little bit of useless info.

I don't know any of the laws but isn't isn't there a setting on the DTC so you can turn off the clearance lights?

If so, I'm assuming it's there because there must be some variances between state laws.

Well I thought there was. On the left upper button on the steering wheel, (lower half) you flip through settings... isn't there a button that allows you to enable or disable clearance lights?

My trucks at work otherwise I'd check.

Mines an 09 ..they moved the DTC control switches to the dash ..5 buttons from top to bottom. I'll have to scroll thru and recheck and see if there is an off setting for the roof Marker lamps.

Thanks VV for clearing that up. Mine's an '06, I didn't realize they changed locations.

I think you can only disable the courtesy lights...not the clearance/marker lights. At least that's how my '05 is.

You were close...I found them on the same site, different page.

Looks like 2, 6 and 7 would apply to H2s.

From the state manual for obtaining your commercial driver's license.

"Vehicles over 8300 GVWR and exceeding 78 inches in height require operating yellow or amber cab marker lights when operated between official sundown and sunrise times. Cab marker lights must be located no more than 22 inches laterally from the top of the windshield."

I was recently reading about the Ford Raptor P/U truck and the
article stated since it was so wide it had have side marker light
installed.

If the specs are correct then this is also why Hummers have
side marker lights too.
