i love my 20 inch black rockstars, but honestly, if i had a chance to buy all over again.. i might be tempted to get 22 inch instead.. and still go with 37 inch tires

Has anyone done the center cap mod on there Rockstars yet? Supposedly you can shorten the bolts and place the center cap closer to the center of the wheel? I do notice that there is a hell of a gap between the cap and wheel.

Mine caps stick way out but a friend of mine has them on a f150 and his caps are tight to the rim. he said they came like that when he ordered them. but i do remember seeing a member who cut his caps down so they fit tight to the rim

very easy mod to do. All you need is a dremel tool. That is what I used. I cut the bolts down and the plastic legs. I put mine about 1/4" from touching. This way dirt and stuff can still get out and they won;t rub on the wheel itself. I also took one fo th ebolts to Home depot and bought a nut that fit those bolts. I threaded the nut on before I cut it. If there were any burs left,, when you unthread the nut, it should take care of any issue. This way you don;t mess something up on teh wheel.
go for it. it hides the rusty hubs better if you didn;t rattlecan them.

Will do Timgco? Yep I sure didn't rattle can my hubs and you can see the rust LOL. Anyhow did you just measure 1/4" and cut? I'm planning on doing the mod as soon as I get back into VA. Also can you get a pic of your wheels and post up? Thanks:excited:

used a 800 grit sand paper sponge thingy
completely sanded the whole star then used 2 coats of matte black
think it was a rustoleum.
let it dry over night, then put it back together

I would run some clear over those too. It's easy to touch them up of you need to, but run a flat clear or gloss clear over them, and you shouldn;t have to touch them up.

Looks awesome man.. Do they rub at all? I'm so friggin stuck on whether or not I should get 20's or 22's.. I'm being told that I'll definitely need a lift with a 22 or 20 by 12 inch tire. I found a nice set of KMC Diesels 22 inch on a toyo MT 35x12.5x22's. They look good on this site
http://www.westkycustoms.com/product/2211CDIESEL35TOYOMT/22x11_Chrome_XD_Diesel_Wheels_w_Toyo_MT_35x125x22_ Tires.html
but I'm afraid that they may look too "low profile". Who knows man.. Once I get it all together with your brush guard it should look sweet either way!
Thanks again for the pics..

you wont need to lift if you go 22 inch rims
you needing a lift will depend on the diameter tire you put on it.
you can safely go to 37x12.5 tires without any or any serious issues.
if you go 37x13.5, you will have rubbing. it is still doable, just depends on how much your willing to live with.
anything bigger/wider is not advisable without a lift, even tho i have seen someone run 40 inch tires with only a 2/4 inch lift....

Yep, like me, I almost got 4" out of a leveling kit and i'm able to fit 38"s on my black one.
Ed, you will not need to lift it unless you go real wide, the only thing I did to my blue one with 35s and 20x12s was to crank up the keys and problem solved.... a lot of people here will tell you not to do that cuz of stiffness or whatever but it didn't make a difference to me... but if you wanna do it right just get the leveling kit and make it look even better:dancingbanana:

I run 20x10 rockstars on my truck and have been thinking about making some custom center caps at my machine shop. Would anyone be interested in some? They would probably be at least a couple hundred a set, but I could put custom text/graphics on them for people.
Let me know if there is any interest.
Thanks!

BACKSPACING is the measurement of the back of the wheel center that sits flush on the hub to the lip of the back of the rim. Depending on a negative or positive offset it will either make the wheels stick further out of the vehicle or closer inward.

righteous! thanks. So, is the rear offset different from the front? I guess this would be the perfect thread to ask what would be the best possibe size/backspace in a 20in the RockStar. Like I said earlier...Im wanting the 20x10's with a 37x13.50.
I know we have a few people who say avoid the 37x13.50x20's, but.........
I see where Roush answered earlier and said the 20x12 with a -44, but Im curious about the 20x10's
My second option:
35x12.50 22x11

How do you like the Nittos?
Do they do well in sand?
I have 37 13.5 TOYO MTs on my H2 but they have only lasted about 15k miles with decent rotation..
How many miles you have out of your Nittos?

I am looking at getting some 20x12 rockstars with 325/60/20 terra grapplers. I read somewhere online that with the air ride there might be a clearance issue with the sensor or something in the wheel well. . Has anyone had a problem with this? Is there a fix? I am planning on just crankin the torsion bars for now and get the leveling kit in the summer. Any help is appreciated.

IM currently running 20" enkies on my 04 with 36x15.5 Mickey Thomspon Baja MTZ's. They are 20x9.5's with a -15 offset. I get some rubbing at full lock, but nothing I cant live with.
If I go with the 20x10 -24 or 20x12 -44 rockstars would I still be ok with these wide ass tires? They wer eon the truck when I bought it, and they are brand new, so I dont want to replace them until they are worn out.
thanks in advance

i just found a offset calculator on line, accoring to that here is what I would have
i currently have a 9.5 wide wheel with -15mm offset
20x10 - 24mm would give me 3mm more clearance on the inside and push the wheel out a little over a half inch (15mm)
20 x12 -44 would give me 3mm less clearnce on the inside and push the wheel out 2.4 inches (61mm)
does that sound correct? I really want to go with those 20x12's, but im not sure i can give up another 3mm iside with my tires already rubbing at full lock. then again, whats 3 mils
any thoughts?
ROUSHDEMON
03-28-2011, 09:58 PM
you're worried about 3mm???????????? really??????????
Dude, the aggresive look that you get with 12" and the extra 20mm in negative offset if worth any 3mm anywhere imo, 3mm is 0.118110236 INCHES!
Women dont even notice 3mm difference, why should you?

yeah, you got a point!
I just bought the Rancho lift for it yesterday, Im going to pull the trigger on the 20x12's.
Now im thinking my 36's are going to look small with the lift. I might just have to invest in a wheel tire pckg deal and go bigger.

IMO 36s are way too small, remember that the Rancho claims 4" but it's really a 6" lift, I wouldn't go any smaller than 38s, that's just my opinion though, I would hate to see you rollin' looking like a roller skate :giggling:

so far so good, no rubbing at all, but I got the extra inch plus with my keys, so if you're just planning on going with the Rancho lift 38's will do the job, they're cheaper, WAAAY more tire options (at least on a 20" wheels) and save more on gas. But to me, they make a hell of a difference in looks, and I personally like that.:beerchug:
