"For Russell Long that's not the issue. "If petrol was 10 cents a gallon I would still buy a Hybrid. Guys who drive Hummers need to understand those vehicles are symbolic of what is wrong with this country.""

Um no. That is exactly what is right about this country. Choice

At work, our "car pool" has a couple of these cars we can check out. At Highway speeds, it does no better MPH than other vehicles in the same size class which run on gas...rip off.

Ok I have an AA$$Hole, I mean an opinion, here is a quick trade if you were driving 50 Miles/Day, 5 days a week your annual cost at 12 MPG and your savings are shown here, and the number of years you would be stuck driving that POS to break even on hte fuel savings. You decide if its worth reducing your enjoyment to save that sort of money.

Would you plug in 80 miles a day/5 days a week. I have a friend that is going to sell her mini-van and get a Prius because she says she'll save money on gas. Her mini-van gets 20 mpg.

Sure here you go. Of course teh break even is assuming that you are selling a perfectly good vehicle in hope of saving money on gas, if you are buying a new vehicle anyway, you would have to compare the differences in vehicle cost and the mileage to determine break even point. most people just do an emotional buy regardless of the numbers
