View Full Version : Hummer Hatred!

Here's my latest brush with the "Hummer hatred" out there......too damn funny!

I was gassing up at the local station when the guy waiting behind me got out of his little rice burner and approached - with an attitude.
He said, "That's a gas guzzler, isn't it?"
I smiled as politely as possible and said, "It's not too bad." and turned away to continue pumping. But he wouldn't quit. As his girlfriend approached and stood beside him, his voice got a little more shrill and obnoxious. "Well, what kind of mileage do you get?"
Okay, I'd had enough. Remembering a pearl of wisdom I got from someone on this forum, I turned, smiled, shrugged my shoulders and, with all the false modesty I could muster said, "Oh, I dunno. About the same as my Porsche." This had two distinctly different effects. It made his girlfriend grin and look at the ground. It mad him madder than hell. But still, he wouldn't give up. "Well what does it get? About 8 or 9 miles to the gallon?" I grinned as broadly as possible and said, "Aw hell, I dunno." Then I looked at his girlfriend and said, "But I'll bet she'd love to ride in either one of 'em, wouldn't you, hun?"
Holy ****.
He came unglued. As she chuckled and walked back to their car, he stepped toward me and demanded, "What did you say?"
I repeated it. Word for word. Then continued to pump my gas. As I got in and drove away, he was still standing there - staring and shaking.
Anything that inspires that kind of strong response is worth every penny it takes to own and operate it. I've had my Hummer for a couple weeks now, and it is already an "experience." As they say at McDonald's, "I'm lovin' it."

nice DF. I gave the same answer every time...17 to 20 mpg.....LOL. You should have gave his g/f your number.....LOL

Tully
08-15-2005, 03:19 AM
thats an awesome way of handling it 'about the same as my porche'...although I think I'd say 'Viper'....nothing against Porche...just like Vipers more...i bet she had to get back in the car and sit ASAP...before the wet in her crotch bled through...you definitely should have given her your number.

I think the standard respones to such a question should be
a) about the same as my porche/viper/ferrari etc
b) 20mph, GM trucks are way more efficient than fords. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ( as if the ass-clown asking you what kind of mileage you get would know any better to ANY sort of respones )

funny thing...if you reset your 'gas mileage' meter in your H2 while your driving on the highway...it'll fluctuate between 16-20mpg for a while before it starts to level out around 11-12mpg....i meant to take a picture when i noticed this and post it....next time

maybe i'll make an FUFUH2.com site and post that picture as the splash screen.

As for acceptance by a "younger generation".....you are truly a moron. C'mon - make yourself feel REALLY good - make fun of that.

First, let me say that I am his wife and, second, I am the "younger generation" that you seem to feel he needs to get acceptance from. Guess it works, huh??????? Also let me add that I am the one that owns the Corvette (02' black convertable with modified exhaust pipes!) that probably does get about the same gas mileage when I fly by you on the freeway going about 140! And since you have decided to start degrading what someone might do for a living, the cubicle you live in can't possibly compare to the world we don't just live in, we experience! And, yes, I (or we) experience this world at about 13 MPG! Isn't it a fabulous thing! First, I doubt that there is any TRUTH in your statement above regarding MPG... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Next, it is purely insignificant WHAT DF owns in his garage... many of us happen to have "exotics" as our 2nd cars! Regardless of whether or not he owns one (which I wouldn't be surprised if he did), his comeback was quite humorous -- and was given for that reason to the rice-burner driver!

I only wish that I was able to think that quickly when I get that type of question... maybe, from now on, I WILL! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You know, the gas mileage between a Porsche and a Hummer is not that far fetched. We have a 930 Porsche and it is a total pig. It takes premium fuel and it costs $70 to fill it up. On a full tank, you can get about 300 miles. I have no idea of where the gas goes, since the car literally weighs nothing, and has a flat six in it.

It is worth every penny to drive it though. Funny how people scream and cheer when they see this car, and then hate Hummers...

I don't like desertfox' story for two reasons:

A) It shows an attitude that continously gets HUMMER owners in trouble. Nuff said... you guys know what I'm talking about.

B) The quoted mpg-comparison between pretty much all (current) Porsche models and an H2 is plainly wrong (assuming that he is not talking about the Porsche Cayenne SUV Turbo version, which is - to my understanding - not a real Porsche, and maybe that is the only P-car which comes closely to the fuel consumption of an H2... but only "closely").

The flat-6 engine of a Porsche (e.g. Carrera or Boxster) is highly prominent for its great fuel efficiency (considering its power output). It is a small modern engine, which has been continuously improved for almost 50 years now. So don't talk BS about P-cars, when you lack the ability to really compare.

That's also the main reason why I picked the H3 over the H2.

How I know all that stuff about P-cars (which aren't exotics in Germany at all, but H3s are!)?... Picture attached! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sharkster,

A) If you do not get the humor of the story, nevermind. Maybe because you are not here in US so you don't get the BS we get.

B) I don't know which quote are you referring to but I don't see anything wrong with the comparison in general. The 987 in the pic seems to be a non-S so it's a 2.7 liter, right? Real world mpg is what, 20? Comparing it to a H3 which probably gets high teens?

The 996 in the pic seems to be a Turbo and i know for a fact that is a gas guzzler. Real world mpg is 15-16 mpg if driven lightly! A little spirited driving you'll be looking at low teens. And my current 996 GT3 is getting 16 mpg but it has not been broken in yet so it may get better but it may get worse because I haven't even driven it past 4200 rpm yet http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The Cayenne Turbo is in the same mpg neighborhood of the H2, if not worse depending on how you look at it. It does have much more hp but it is much smaller. Real world mpg is 12-13 http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Maybe you are getting much better mileage out there in the autobahn but here in US, real world mpg is not pretty. And that's what most tree huggers fail to realize, many cars out there are getting just as ****ty mpg but for whatever reason, only HUMMER gets the blame http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I also identified your GT3-II by the caps on the rims and the GT3-II wing. Great car. I hope you'll take it out to some trackdays... since that's what GT3s were originally built for. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I hang around at 6speedonline.com (my name is "Marx" there... The "Sharkster" guy at 6speedonline is NOT me) and at rennteam.com (my name is Martin J.S. there). I also run my own Porsche911 website (german) at evolution911.com or elfer-club.de.

I'm definitely into cars with an iconic design... which is the key reason why I got into HUMMERs. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

However an H1 or an H2 is simply not driveable in German city traffic (some roads are waaaaaay too narrow to navigate anything bigger than an H3 through them). I had a Mercedes ML 320 before I got my H3... and boy am I happy with that ride.

GM is about to introduce the H3 here in Europe officially and I'm sure that it could be huge success since so many of my buddies got bored with the soft streamlined Euro-SUV style (ML, X5, Range Rover, Cayenne etc.).

I was among the first 20 guys to onw a H3 here in Germany... so you know that there is a demand for cubic styled off-road "machos" over here. Mercedes Benz is going to cease the "G-model" production (by replacing it with a bigger ML, called either "G" or "MLX") next month... so except for the Range Rover, no "rough" European cubic styled SUVs over here left. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Iconic cars like the H3 could take GM to new heights over here (where they tried to gain ground without any success in the past), but unfortunately, most European GM-dealers do not realize the chance they get through the H3. Anyway... not my problem. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm happy with my H3 (no probs whatsoever during the first 3k miles).

Real Story:

Hummer wreaks rush-hour chaos
CRASHES: Driver runs light, hits four vehicles, police say.

By Peter Porco
Anchorage Daily News

(Published: August 27, 2002)

At least two people were injured Monday afternoon after a motorist drove a new Hummer through a red light, slammed into two vehicles and then sped down the wrong side of the road and hit two more vehicles, police said.

One car hit by the Hummer caromed into a van, making for a total of six vehicles in what looked to other drivers like a demolition derby.

The man behind the wheel of the Hummer was Rodney Udd. He owns the Hummer of Alaska dealership on Fifth Avenue, according to salesman Howard Castle at Anchorage Chrysler Dodge, Hummer's parent company.

Udd was treated at and released from Providence Alaska Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said. He could not be reached for comment Monday night.

Police Sgt. Gil Davis said police are still investigating.

"There doesn't seem to be any alcohol involved," he said. "It may be some kind of medical problem, maybe a seizure."

The crash tied up rush-hour traffic on DeBarr Road. At 6:15 p.m., two hours later, the maroon Hummer lay crossways in the eastbound lanes of DeBarr, its front end mashed to an unrecognizable tangle, its door alarm ringing and radio playing.

"It's still got that new-car smell," Davis said.

The 2003 Hummer, Castle said, was Udd's demonstration model, worth about $60,000. It was totaled, police said.

The Hummer, southbound on Airport Heights Drive, had stopped for a red light at DeBarr. The driver sat through the green light, Davis said, and when the light changed again to red, he took off into the intersection.

Tammy Morse, a 32-year-old delivery driver westbound on DeBarr, was behind the wheel of the first vehicle struck by the Hummer, a white Pet Pantry van. She braked hard and the Hummer opened a hole in her front bumper but bounced away into another vehicle, she said.

"He just plowed through everybody else," said Morse, who was uninjured. "He ignored me, hit the extended-cab (truck) and turned and headed down the sidewalk."

The Hummer spun around after striking the second vehicle and then sped west down the eastbound side of DeBarr, she said.

"I couldn't believe it," Morse said.

It seemed even more shocking to Jenette Jemison, a 21-year-old student driving east in her sister's late-model Mazda sedan.

Heading up the hill outside Alaska Regional Hospital, Jemison found the square-nosed, wide-body Hummer -- the civilian version of the military's Humvee -- coming straight for her.

"He was on the sidewalk, and I'm thinking, 'What the hell!' " Jemison said. " 'He's going to turn away.' But he doesn't. He just keeps coming."

Jemison said traffic was heavy and drivers around her were blowing their horns and trying to get out of the way. She squeezed left but not far enough. The Hummer came off the sidewalk and smashed into the Mazda, spinning it into the left lane, where it was hit by a van.

A few car lengths later, the Hummer smashed head-on into a Dodge Ram pickup. "That ended it," Davis said.

The pickup driver, unidentified Monday evening, was treated for minor injuries at Providence and released, Davis said

Doesn't say how far it sped down the wrong side of the road does it? Could have been two blocks for all you know. That also does not take into account the speed of the other vehicle.

Oh, this is seriously getting carried away! There are so many responses to so many things that I have read that I am going to number them.

1. Hummer D - You rent to people like me? Let me take an hour to laugh my as*** off. I've done quite a bit more than you when it comes to your claim of real estate investments including vegas strip side condos so don't go there w/ me. I don't buy a vehicle for the purposes you state, I buy them because I want them and purchasing (not leasing) is the smart way to go for me! How much money do you put in to your clanker of a vehicle or, more important, how much will you? You also have apparently not wanted to comment on the fact that you really don't own these homes due to the fact that when you stop paying taxes the government takes them away. No matter what, the government does own your so-called houses. Hehe. I still havn't figured out why it's a good thing that you pay more in taxes each year than my H2 cost. A bit warped. Hate to tell ya but you don't live debt free per your own admission.

2. Hummer Newbie - good job!! And, by the way, regarding the thong knot.......that would be called something else. Hint: starts w/ an "e"!

3. H2 co-pilot - thank you for the facts!

4. Las Vegas - Thank you for the out-house comment because I truly feel I'm wasting my time debating w/ a loser that doesn't have a pot to piss in!

I was going to keep going on w/ Hummer D but have decided to not waste my time.

Vette are great grocery getters, you can driver the wheels off of them,(i have seen many with well over 200kmiles, easy to repair and a lot cheaper to own and operate than other vehicles in their performance range, they are great fun and get excellent mileage. ~28mpg hwy and ~18 or better city

That comes just after "O" and just before "Q". Oh, and you can find that book at the local library which should be within 3 hours distance of the cave you live in (w/ your mother). My response to MPG guestion if I can tell they are looking for trouble is.

Well it is like owning a Jag. If You have to ask what the tuneup cost You probably should not be looking to buy one so, I figure with My H2 if i was needing to keep up with the MPG I did not need to own one. I do not know what it gets cause it does not matter to Me. I just pay the gas card when it comes.

HD,
I just visited the website you tout at the bottom of every post. You are a strangely bored little boy, aren't you? When you turned 18 and your Mother threw you off her tit, did it really cause this severe a mental problem? If you would spend more time in the gay bars and less on the net, you might actually get SOME fullfilment out of your otherwise pathetic, dreary, twisted little life. I for one vow here and now to simply ignore further posts from you as the ramblings of an angry and lost little man. Best of luck to you. I mean that. May they find a cure before the AIDS takes its full toll.

Naah, these trolls are here as a favor to entertain us ol-timers of the forum... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If you poll real-live owners H2 across the nation, most would agree that the sheer JOY of driving such a controversial rig goes hand-in-hand, and ENHANCES our love in buying such LikeNothingElse design in the first place.

Especially if you take the H2 off-roading and especially if you drive a http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif PEWTER POWER H2 BABY!!! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

I.E., people that does NOT want attention will NOT buy the H2. Real H2 owners LOVE the constant attention... especially for a 3-year-ol design that STILL FAILS to blend-in with the boring masses!! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Its too bad that adults cant even act responsible these days. I guess its the oil money in their pockets. My clauses and phrases I thought would be somewhat easy to read. I guess I am wrong though, because you have hard times reading. I for one have a fabulous education. As a 13 year old, I am taking 3 high school credits this year *middle school still* and help out with National Honor Society. I also helped community service with Katrina refugees.

Also: the only missplellings in the last post are "iono", which was on purpose. I made up a few words, hardly a misspelling, and it goes back to my Jewish roots. I just had a lack of caring about capitalization rules and puntuation rules. Oh well, its hard living the life of proving asswipes/jerks/rude/ignorant pigs wrong.
