How many took their spare tire off and left in their garage for daily driving?

For those that did, how far is your daily commute?

Leave mine in the garage all the time. Been on 3 trips over 3000 miles without it. I know its stupid, but just dont have the room for it. I'll probably be walking tommorrow from a flat , now that i posted this. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Left mine in the garage forever - then finally got a Gobi rack, and now I don't leave home without it!

I'm thinking of doing the same. Couple of guys around here drive with some spray stuff with them and they will fill the tire with that if flat happens...

Mine is on the rack. Although I've never had a flat in my H2 I somehow start thinking I will the moment I leave it in the garage.

If you are driving in an urban area mainly in daylight hours i wouldn't worry about it and leave it the garage. For longer trips, and obviously wheelin', bring it along. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>X2 I know the minute I leave it, I will need it. I've only had one flat with these type/size of tires, and that was after we picked up a HUGE piece of metal off the freeway in our pickup. During daylight, but on the 5 lane bridge on the side of the road. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Very scarey. I leave mine on the roof rack now, cuz I have crappy Karma. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Plus my roof rack won't allow me to fit in the garage, so I'm reduced to outside in the rain, or in the shop under the leaks. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Went 60K miles last year with two Hummers--no spares--a waste of space inside and out.

A flat is what AAA is for.

I thought that if you had a flat and didn't have a spare, they would charge you to bring one out cuz you wouldn't have one to put on. But I'm not 100% sure about that. Maybe someone else would know? Call the Onstar lady! She'll know. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

For those of you who leave the spare behind, do you have the models with the inside-the-back spare? If so, does anyone make an aftermarket rear spare carrier? Would that solve your problem? I don't mind mine at all on the back (though I will probably loose the hard cover - like the tire showing better). Also, if I ever really space out (don't plan on it), I'd rather the spare to bump some hidden pole when backing up than my truck.

I have the carrier from an 04 and it sucks vs the 05/ 06 setup. They rattle and still block your view somewhat. If you back into something hard enough, it's not just yout tire, because that tire than hits your rear gate too.

I just like the clean look back there. I'm going to put the fullsize GOBI rack up top and be done with it.

I really take too many trips to the mountains and down south in the state to leave a tire behind. I take equipment in and out of the back and that tire is a PIA sometimes.

About a year w/no tire. 20K+ per year.

I haul stuff with the open tailgate too much to not do it.

I think mine measured 94". 8 Ft could be cuttin it pretty close with 37" tires. Maybe Phil would let you park at his house. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Sweet! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I didn't think about the problems swinging the out spare out on a side slope. Of course, I've only had mine for about 28 hours. Hmmm. As a side note, why is the tire carrier on the 06s made of lead? Actually, I kind of like such things in the day of plastic cars and trucks with plastic bumpers.

Cool pic, Dan.

Old truck: only took the spare out when wheeling.

New truck: on the rear for now.

Took it out of the truck, or out of the garage? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I just throw mine in the back for wheeling, you can kinda see it in that pic.

BTW, some jackass has his work truck parked in front of my house right now with the backup alarm going for about 10 minutes now. Not sitting well with my hangover. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif WTF! I'm going out there. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I just got mine and it as the rear tire swing. I'll just leave mine on because of all my good luck I have. The swing works so good it's not a problem to use, even for the wife.

I had the dealership remove mine before I took delivery in September. I think it looks a lot cleaner without it. However I have many question what year it is because it is not on the back like the 06's. Who cares, it fits a hell of a lot easier into the garage also. For long trips I can throw it up top ubtil then thats what Onstar is for I quess!!!

I plan to do the same with my 06 I pick up on 2/22/06 (yes - Im stoked!)

Question: My dealership said that they will have to "fill holes" in the sfrom taking the swing gate off -- how bad do the "fill-ins" look on the rear bumper and the rear trunk???? I'm worried it will look like CRAP.

Ketoman11,

The dealership did a great job removing the carrier and the plugs look fine they actually replaced the bumper cover as well. My dealership charged me $700 to do the work!!!
