Ok here is the deal, something and I have no idea what got on the hood just in front of the hood handles between that plate and the grill and now the paint is starting to chip and crack away and I can see BARE METAL....WTF is up with that??? Anyone else have anything similar happen?? I have talked to the dealer and they say they can take care of it, just curious if anyone else has encountered this and what did you do about it.. They are talking like they will have to repaint that entire section of the hood.. Still have no clue what it is or was that was on there.. Was thinking bird droppings but I never park out in the open and I never park under trees.... So now I am stumped..... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I believe that the entire hood is fiberglass. Could that have something to do with paint coming off?

Man, you should know the answer to that one... This wonderful Houston, Texas air quality that we get to deal with... I mean take a look at the roof of Minute Maid Park where the Astros play baseball... That thing is struggling right now and it's only 2.5-3 yrs. old... God bless the Houston Ship Channel and all the refineries and petrochemical plants...

sounds like an egg to me. I had that happen a long time ago to a different car.

They have told me that they will look at it and then they will probably have to repaint it... Said that it was bird crap and that I (like its my fault) did not get it off fast enough.... I told them that it is under warranty and I purchased a paint protection package and they will fix it.. So I will have a fresh painted hood....Or at least that area.... So that will be cool..........

i could be a form of vandalism... but dont tell your dealer that. it is an old child hood trick. take a bottle of cheap, cheap, pancake syrup and pour it on someones hood on a cool night, and with in a couple of days, the paint will start to peel.

number two, how long have you had your hummer. I had a similar problem with a small area on the hood flaking off, they refinished it. dealer told me that they have had a problem with this before, something about paint not adhering correctly,

make sure it matches up perfect... or demand a new hood.

Zero, when painting automobile, you always paint the whole panel, in this case, the whole hood. Never just one section. Even super cheap low class Miracle Auto Painting does the whole panel. Make sure you get that.

Sounds like simple good old paint defect to me. I had all kinds of bird ****s on my automobiles, I've never seen bird **** that powerful to take off paint. But then again, everything is bigger in Texas, maybe you got some super Texan birds with giant toxic dump.

Well, the birds in Houston can't be that healty... You know, the most polluted city in the country and all. The people in houston are cool, but I hate the weather and the air quality. We used to have a couple businesses down there and it was horrible to go from my pristine town to that place. Oh the humidity... I hate humidity! But texans actually are cool people. A different breed, yes. But they are cool people in my book. They live life big. Everything in Texas is big. But apparently they have toxic corrosive bird crap. Zero, keep your ferrari inside at all times. I would hate for your toxic birds to ruin that beautiful work of art.

Don't forget about oven cleaner, does a job on paint.
When I was a kid, that was a big thing to write on hood or trunk then when water got on it the paint washed off.
Dried it might look like bird poop to the dealer.
