Pissed Off

OK - so I'm doing 70 and just about to pass a dump truck when he hits a bump and showers me with gravel http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif! Fortunately no windshield cracks, but about a dozen small nicks / chips. Does anyone know a good product to take care of this? I remember some kind of plastic filler years ago.

Around here all you have to do is get the name of the trucking company. Of course you then have to prove it was their fault. Trucks are also required to have their load covered.

Good luck and I hope they are not too deep. Would a simple rubbing compund work?

You should be able to get those repaired for free through your insurance company.

Try the yellow pages, 10 years ago I had the 928 get a whack with some pea gravel, just like you, off a truck. The repair folks came over, injected some resin in the pit and that was that. After all this time I still can't see where the repair was. Good luck.

Good luck on getting the insurance company to fix them. I have state farm and a $1000 deductible. They offered to inject the resin material in the crack but if the windshield would have had to been replaced I was responsible for the first $1000. I had heard of a glass deductible but my insurance company acted as if they had never heard of such a deductible. Long story short, I got the resin injected but still have a small damaged area in the upper right corner of the windshield. Good Luck!

There are generally 2 parts in your auto insurance. Liability and Comprehensive. To lower the deductable on Liability is quite expensive, but on the Comprehesive part it only costs a few dollars to $15 premium per 6 months to lower the deductable from $500 to $50, which covers damages such as windshield or when you are parked. It is also common that the insurance company or agents act stupid about this when asked, you must persist. Important to specify "Comprehesive." I went through that, managed to lowered comprehesive deductable from $500 to $50 @ $12 extra premium(6 months), only after I got angry at the agent. The switch came in handy few months later when my parked Jaguar paint was badly damaged ($4K) during a heavy storm.

Don't even think of using your own insurance company to pay for this!!!

Truckers are required to cover their loads, this is NOT an act of God. Inspiring Pamela Anderson to get that rack job...now THAT was an act of God...but this isn't!!!

Please tell me you got that truckers plates and/or pulled him over to exchange info. Get ahold of that company or their insurance...get them to pay for a new windshield and paint!!

Replace the windshield, buff out the paint and use the money saved to buy the wife some savvy lingerie...take some pics and post them on the forum: it's a win/win/win/win situation.
