As for the gas-guzzling H2, GM may around 2008 have in place a hybrid-electric system and a technology called displacement-on-demand, which saves gas by shutting down four of the engine's eight cylinders when it's cruising at highway speeds.

Something Mopar is already doing with the rams. With the Hemi engine I believe.

GM has had that technology on almost every GMT800 truck for more than a year. Whenever the H2 goes to a GMT900 platform, it will get it too.

Didn't Cadillac do this with their 8-6-4 engine? And wasn't it a total disaster?

It was a disaster on the Cadillac----GM can make almost anything a disaster without even trying.
The accountants own the joint, not the engineers.
