The thread in the h3 forum got me interested in how the ghey wagon would compare to h2 stock vs stock.
Here is the specs I could find...
As typical for Mercedes vehicles, the G-Wagon is optimized to the use its designed for: It is safe, reliable, offers lots of room for passengers and cargo and goes as far as you can expect a car to go. It climbs up and down up to 80% grades, and is stable on lateral slopes up to 54%. Fording depth is 48cm (19in) (Manufacturer’s Specifications). Certainly, the G is more designed for off-road performance than most other SUVs, especially when it comes to durability, yet it is the most practical car on the road to get your groceries, to bring the kids to their favorite sports events, or just to get to work safely whatever the weather might be. Besides that, the G-Wagon offers a trailer tow capacity up to 3,500 kg (7700 lb) GTWR, depending on the engine choice.
80% grade??? BS. I'd like to see that.
54% side slope how many degrees is that like 46 or something, ok I belive that.
Water fording 19 in versus 20in in h2 pretty close.
What are the approach/departure angles? Cant find the info.
Also towing is fairly comparable.
We might have a pretty good competitor, but price and gheyness factor tip heavily toard h2. Also, the tires are small and street. Fukk that. You would have to add at least mud tires to climb even a 60% grade IMO.
Stock tires vs stock tires Hummer wouldn't even have to leave the pavement to out do the G-fagon.
G wagon owners, do your best to prove me wrong and then I'd like to hit the trails w/ one.
Also all name calling is said in jest (SIC?) and should be taken that way.

The g-wagon...Self proclaimed "the best 4x4 ever" but no good pics of them doing tough obstacles that I can find.
Here two stuck ones

Ok, I didn't read all of that, but remember the number one word "MARKETING."
The G doesn't have a roof rack which accounts for higher stated slopes. Specs, such as slopes, are reported at Maximum Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings. The H2 can carry, I don't remember what the exact number is but, something like 500lbs on the roof which greatly increases the COG.
54% is probably a little less than 30 degrees or so, which the H2 can do without whimper.
So, you are really not comparing apples to apples using the manufacturer supplied data.

I don't know all that much about them, but anything that comes from the factory with SFA and lockers can't be all bad. It seems like they have a good balance between width and wheel base also.

It is what the British Army is using in Iraq I guess now too! That pic has more flex than a stock H2 I bet!

Here (italy) the Class-G short version is one of the most used (with Def 90) off road car... The big problem for large truck is obiouvsly the mountain...forest...tree and all around.
Yes...I confirm that a stock H2 is more capable than a stock G or Def.... But with some money G and DEF can be modified very aggressive... More money we needs to change H2 to make competitive with G and DEF

Looks like it is resting on the rear overhang, but making it is making it.

They have great offroad DNA. I like the old school ones best.
The AMG G55 is scary fast in a straight direction but doesn't handle worth a dam.

Here is a Heavily modded one with super flexy suspension.

This is a 1981. He swapped in Dana 44 and a Ford 9".
Ok, so we're no longer comparing apples to anything but it does look very cool. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Those are cool pics. I have personally never seen a modified one, or a dirty one for that matter. Its cool to see that some get wheeled pretty hard.
The SFA makes them easier to modify than the H2 as far as flexy suspensions and lifts.

Dont you remeber that they are "the best 4x4 in the world" so they can probably do like 75% side slope. They have a geomagnetic frame that makes it stick to the rocks. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
