Was heading out on my lunch break today and it started up just fine but when i looked at my instrument panel it was completely dead. It caught my attention because i though my gas was on E but the gauges were all dead and so was the LCD readout. I pushed the odometer reset rod and it fired up. Just kinda weird. If it happens again i will take it in but has this happened to anyone else? and have you taken it in? what was the problem?

I would still let your service dept know of it.

This exact thing happened to me yesterday while driving. Panel was normal when started up. While moving at 70mph I noticed that all gauges were dead and not lighted . I hit the right blinker and they all went back to normal and working. The battery light stayed on though. I pushed the On-Star and had them do a diag but no codes came back. When I stopped at a store I turned it off and started back up with no problems and gauges worked again all the way home.
I will wait util it happens again before taking it in for service. Kinda scary when it happened.

Sounds like a loose wire or a bad relay. F5?

No relays. Loose connector at rear of cluster, or BCM is having a stroke.
Lower steering wheel, grab the cluster trim plate at the top and pull back to disengage the fasteners from the I/P, then remove four screws and check that connector is firmly attached to cluster.
