4WD Engagement Interference?

Is anyone experiencing what sounds like metal to metal clunking when you engage the 4lo or electronically lock the rear differential?

Mine is not smooth at all and sounds like the gears are grinding hard when engaging. Normal?

An H2 I tried as a demo had a loud clunk when locking the rear, a slight grinding noise when going to 4lo. the one i bought has no noises like that. but it has the exhaust pop and what sounds like a leak in the a/c.

mine makes a loud noise or clunk when going in to or comeing out of 4 lo. It runs great in 4 lo. I went under it to look for leaks or problems. everythink looks ok. Just that loud noise going into 4 lo.

Thanks. It sounds like it may vary vehicle to vehicle. I will add it to my list for service.

I select different tranny positions,4-hi, 4-loc,4-low, while the wheels are turning very very slow. This made changing very smooth. Remember wheels barely turning.
