My service advisor took one look at my new wheels and "recommended" that I drive around the city in 3rd gear. Reason? Something to do with trying to avoid overdrive engagement and putting undue pressure on the tranny with the heavier upsprung weight. Apparently the larger diameter (albeit marginal) affects the shift points, etc...

Any truth to this or is he smoking dope?

If I can't maintain 50-55 or more MPH, I'm in third! For city driving, It does save a lot of shifting! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Hey, You need a power programmer. It'll allow you to adjust the size of tires and gear ratio. It will also change the shift points, so you don't jump in and out of gear, as much.

You will notice a decrease in rpm due to larger tires.

A gear swap will help that.. I run 1500rpm @ 50mph. 38" tires.

Looking to swap gears all I can find is 4:56.

Good Luck

Isn't that what the tow button option we all have, is for?
Doesn't that keep it out of 4 gear until ther is minimal resistance?
That was my understanding.

The tow/haul button keeps the transmission from shifting into overdrive. I'm not sure if it really changes the shift points. The programmer not only changes shift points but fuel/air mixture and timing giveing more power to turn those monster tires !! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
