I still don't understand the point of a rear winch. Seems like a lot of extra weight just to pull the dumbass cheap mo-fo behind you who couldn't bother to buy a winch out of the stupid ass line he took. But I guess when you wheel with a bunch of newbs and pompous a-holes you probably need it. Good call.... :giggling:

Gotta love Cabelas...there is one in Wheeling WV, about an hour or so from me. I saw in the Pittsburgh Business Times that Pittsburgh may be getting one too!
They are one of the few places that makes tall sized clothes for guys...and being 6'4" that sure comes in handy!

We aren't debating my web wheeling abilities. According to you I never go off-road, have never wheeled before, and am here merely to stir the pot. :notallthere:
Anyway, I thought the point was to go forward down the trail. Why go backwards? OK, maybe you are wheeling alone and have no forward winch point, but then you are a total retard for getting that stuck all by yourself. I see no real use for a winch on the rear of your vehicle other than to pull other people out, and that is retarded to get one to bail other people out.

You will go the way the trail lets you go. When I get stuck, (Cause I am such a badass/dumbass) I GET STUCK REAL GOOD. I am usually a get myself in get my self out type of guy. I love to help, hate to ask for help. So a rear winch helps out a lot on my Polaris Ranger. I could see its uses on the rear of a H2. I would rather hook up a chain and pull someoneelse out than use a winch if possible. Otherwise, unless you brace your truck, your truck will slide toward the person you are winching out instead of vica versa. You could not leave your truck in drive and pull someone out with the winch that way because you would ruin your winch. If I spend the money on a winch, it is for my needs. Why would I want to burn it up on some other knucklehead when I could pull them out with a two strap.Seriously, if you are so nieve to think that you do not think you could use a rear winch, you need to spend more time wheeling in the woods.

You obviously haven't wheeled with the H3 guys up the Golden Stairs. :D
After they break their differentials....... The top of that obstacle has a 90 degree turn on it. It's 10 times easier just to hook them up to the rear winch than try to drive away with a strap and that angle or find some way to turn around and come back with your front winch facing. It's that w
Also, when you're pulling someone over/out of a nasty obstacle, you can go much slower and more controlled using a rear winch rather than just pulling them with a strap.
Plus.......it looks cool to have a one.

I have to agree.
Last time Tower was in Moab with us, he ventured out in front of everyone for some reaon and got into the famous "HELPIMBOBBING Situtation." A rear winch would have been helpful here as he could have winched him self back just enough to continue on rather than moving truck around that had a winch to pull him back.

9 times of out 10 a strap and a buddy pulling is more effective than a winch. Doesn't matter whether it's from the front or rear.
But I've seen several situations where a rear winch would have come in handy. And Ask Rox! We used her rear winch several times. :D

Yeah. Having a winch is a luxury. I do not use mine if I do not have to. I get deep into the woods a lot. That means be prepared or be walking.

I've used my winch rarely in self recovery. Maybe a dozen times in 10 years of wheeling. Mostly when I owned the Jeep. On one of them I used both to pull the H2 out from side sliding further down an abandoned mine pit when I got caught in a miniature landslide.
I've used my winches mostly to recover wheeling buddies or just being a good samaritan during the winter months. There are trails where it is impossible to turn around to access your front winch to help out one who gets stuck behind you. This has happened a lot.:clapping:
Or strapping on a trail with multiple ledges or tight turns. West coast wheeling is not as easy and friendly compared to the wide open super traction surfaces of Moab.
It's not used as much as my front, but it's definitely a godsend when the need arises.
I'm surprised GayBob would make such a statement. I'm sure it's only because he's just hurt about something else. No block of wood to lean on.

Now don't go putting words in my mouth. I am not saying that a front winch is not needed. In fact, a winch on the front of your rig is just about mandatory on the trails I run. All but one of my wheeling buddies have a winch on the front of their rig, and the one that doesn't won't go where the rest of us take our rigs. Weight is a major factor in four wheeling. Something that is lost on you H2 guys all things considered. Why put the 150 extra pounds of weight on your rig? Just to look cool? To pull someone else out? That is retarded. Fact is a 4000lb rig will out perform a 5000lb rig all things being equal. So why put more crap on your rig? Go ahead and wire up your rear winch, put on your huge roof racks filled with crap you really don't need, and your strap down your inflated egos and good luck keeping up with the smaller and lighter rig. You know, the ones who only need ONE winch to get unstuck. :raar:
