Does anyone know if these two items would be covered under a gm warranty? My truck is an 06 with 18 miles? My wheels are chrome and it looks like the chrome is chipping off around the edges. The rear tire system is all rusted around the welds. The dealer told me that it was "normal"?? :notallthere:
NORMAL!?
My 03 Range Rover was a piece of Sh!t but at least they attempted to fix it! Now wonder GM is going out of business.

The bottom of my 06H2 tire rack is rusted and peeling as well. I went to the dealership with my 05H2 witch had some rust bubbles on the bumper around the where the tire rack mounts. They told me rust and paint are tough to put into warrenty. Because they were just bubbles they said it was a factory defect, and fixed it. If rust is showing through they told me most often it could be from a scratch, small ding or chip. Not a factory defect. I'm going to ask about my tire rack when I go into the dealership this friday. They could say that I rubbed across something when i swung it open and now its peeled and rusting. Well see how it goes. Give it a try, if its the welds, I would say its a factory problem and not neglect or usuall wear.

I was told that the original 3yr warranty covers surface rust. They fixed my Silverado around the door jam were it bubbled up but the new paint bubbled up again within a month so they re painted and it bubbled a month later. So I fixed it my self with POR15 and topped it with factory paint never rusted again. After the std 3yr warranty you have the 6yr 100k miles corosion warranty but that is only for rust through.

The wheel should be covered - there is a Bulletin on the wheels - i do not know the number right now. As far as the tire carrier there is a fine line there - dealer call on that.

Awesome! If anyone finds out bulletin on the wheel issue please let me know. I bought it under warranty so I'm wondering why they wouldn't have fixed it before I bought it? Regarding the Tire Carrier, it's only rusting around the welds.. I would definitely say that it's a factory defect! They better fix it.

Brought my H2 in yesterday. They are going to replace the tire carrier for me. The Service manager is my neighbor so I'm not really sure if that had any influence on it, I'm sure it had a a little. I also have a tear in my weather stripping near the sill plate that they are going to replace as well. I am excited about getting a new a carrier! (they told me the carrier is around $1,000 ! )

Not really, I'd just like the dealer to do what is right. If they don't i'll simply by a different brand for my next car. Selling a car to someone is one thing and servicing it is another. That's part of the whole experience. If they don't make things right the consumer can choose to buy from someone who will. Right? My Rover, for example, was a mechanical piece of Sh!t but at least the dealer tried to keep it on the road.

My '06 had a little rust on the rear tire carrier. I took some fine sand paper and flat black rust oleum and it's as good as new. Total time 15 minutes, total expenditure $5. I also did the towing hitch receiver while I was at it.

Can you post a picture of your chrome wheels flaking. There are a few posts on it, but if I see your wheel I can lead you in the right direction.

Mine is leaking water through the top weld and getting into the inside of the carrier where it is hollow. So, I believe it is rotting through. I was going to do what you did, try and scrape it clean and paint it myself, but with the damage from the inside out I wasnt sure how long that would last. So i said what the hell and asked about warrenty coverage at the dealer. This is a Cady dealer too, not a hummer dealer where I bought it. I'm glad there are going to take care of it. :D

My 06 has just turned 20K and no sign of rust. Where do you guys live? You must be up North, otherwise I imagine I'd be having the same problem.

It is covered up to November 2009 being an 06, or 50K miles (which would be alot of driving if you only have 18K on it now. I have an 06 as well and I have had things as small as the lighted buttons on the A/C controls fixed...and it was covered. So Yeah, I'd say if you raise enough stink, they will do it.

Thanks for the help guys... I'm taking it there tomorrow so I'll let you know.
Also, I ordered the Rockford Fosgate setup from SOMO.. For 500 bucks you can't go wrong. IF it sucks I'll just throw in another sub and a different set of fronts/rears with a 2 channel amp.

Brought My SUT in last week for warrenty service. They replaced the entire rear carrier! I was actually surprised that whole thing was replaced. The swing arm had the rust but they replaced the reciever hitch and the part the swing arm sits in. New d-rings as well. I had a tear in my weather stripping at the sill plate on the drivers side and that got reaplced as well. Also my window washer heater module blew so that gone while there. Nice to leave the dealer with out shedding a penny and getting what is deserved. I am the second owner and these issues were there when I bought it. Its now just like new with no problems or little defects!:dancingbanana:
