Got this blackout kit from ebay a few days ago and I'm in love! Thought I'd share and recommend them to anyone who wants to blackout their tail lights. These are hard acrylic plexi-glass tint that are removable if need to! Brake lights are also highly visible through these! I'm also in the process of "ghosting" my H2 door emblems..let me know what you think!

hows the fitment? Do they stick out away from the light, or are they snugged up on it? How do they attach, 3M?

I just bought the pre cut tint for the tails, but havent tired to put it on yet. This looks way easier.

90$

I think I'll just use my 5$ can of VHT Nightshade :giggling:

****, Im afraid to use the nightshades on my tails. I used them on my markers and my front turn signals. i went way too dark....both times. I sanded them back down the first time, them sprayed them too dark again. They are staying that way at this point, but IM afraid to have my tails too dark. I will be rear ended before I know it.

i know what you mean... Just got to do very light even strokes with the can. all my lights seem to shine through enough. i only did two coats though and one coat of clearcoat

the first time around i think I did like 5 coats, and 4 coats of clear. i got way carried away with it. Second time around I did 3 coats of paint, 3 coats of clear. The light shines through, but they should be a little bit lighter for sure.

While more expensive, the acrylic covers seem a hell of alot easier.

The fitment is pretty snug considering..it's held together by three clear 3M strips so it does not show through..I chose not to do the spray because if I have to remove it I can. I thought about the film but for how easy it was to install these, and how durable they are, it seemed too easy for me. I really like these and they are holding up great so far. Light shows through perfectly as well, consistent all the way through!

Anytime! For how easy they are I really suggest it, I've been debating what to do with the tint for so long and I'm happy with my decision. Took me five minutes to put on! :dancingbanana:

Id probably get the film also just because when it comes to the taillights i don't really want to mess around with it to much. taillights are serious business

Haha. Thanks buddy! I'm dying for a lift! That's all I'm missing! :twak:

how much of a lift do you want to go?

You're just on the leveling kit right? Either way bro, you're set up is HOT! I think the height looks great with those wheels and the theme you have going on is incredible! This is how i would imagine a white SUT should look

Thanks buddy! And I really want a 4" rancho to stack with my truxxx keys..it'll give me about 7" of lift. Then I'm thinking either 37" or 38" Toyo's :D :D

Are you sure the Truxx keys will give you 3" more? I thought they were closer to 2"...

tyler1bo
07-15-2011, 05:35 PM
They won't give me three, it's just that everyone I've ever talked to about a rancho says that the kit is more like a 6" than a 4". So I'm pretty sure I'll clear 7" with that combo. Bimmer ran the same thing at one point, said he was about 7".

I figured that's what you were thinking. Supposedly the Fabtech and Rancho kits are very close in height.

tyler1bo
07-15-2011, 07:29 PM
Yes you are correct, I'm not sure why that is really. It just sits up more than a 4" for some reason, why don't they just change the numbers?

charles06
07-15-2011, 08:12 PM
I've actually heard that the Fabtech is closer to a 4" lift, and that the Rancho is a little truer to their claim. Have you heard similar?

tyler1bo
07-15-2011, 08:43 PM
I haven't heard that the fabtech is smaller than what they claim..all I've heard is the rancho owners saying that it is taller than the 4" label. I don't know who all has actually measured their lift though. haha

Fabtech sits as its claimed, Rancho sits a bit higher than claimed.

Real tempting to buy these, I have the niteshade and have done the side markers but don't want the MAN coming down on me for the tail lights.

tyler1bo
07-21-2011, 12:35 PM
That's what I was afraid of with the nightshades. These are very consistent and pretty dang visible considering they are blackouts, AND I can remove them when I get tired of them :)

Yep, Rancho and keys are around 7" . :D

charles06

If that's 7", then my truck must have at least 8" of lift. I have a bit more clearance under my fenders. You guys need to measure your heights and post in the thread I started about a week ago. I'm curious to see where everyone sits. NOW GET ON IT!!!

Tyler,

Can you describe these covers? Are they just a sheet of dark Plexiglas that lays over the light or are they like a small box like cover that covers the edges too?

tyler1bo
08-01-2011, 07:58 PM
They are a couple millimeters thick of smoked dark plexiglass with three clear 3M double-sided tape on the back. It is flat all the way across so unfortunately it does not cover the edges, but frankly you don't need it. Mine have been perfect. It's simply just a stick-on application. They have both packages for the top tail lights and bumper lights. It is a little expensive but it is the easiest way and simplest way to do it in my opinion. You get what you pay for :)
