Its much better to have the cam working going foward also.I noticed you will see the car on the monitor but not in your side mirror when there passing from the side. There is some glare at night from the headlights of cars.

Also list some pics we like pics.

There are a lot of systems on the market. Which did you use? Cost? DIY install? Pics?

You get the FrameCam from HitchCam? If yes, then there should be a small rocker switch on the left side of the monitor. When activated (pushed up), that switch should cause the monitor to stay on at all times. If it doesn't, I'd say the installer did it wrong.

Vizualogic probably. And I don't believe it offers the option I mentioned above.

Having it on all the time is fun. I've seen some pretty funny stuff while sitting at stop lights.

I got my HitchCam installed today. It's REALLY cool..I love it. They hooked it up so that it can be left on at all times but if you forget to turn it off, it will drain the battery. I'm planning on leaving it on at all times during the day.

We drove home tonight with it on and the glare from the headlights is a bit weird, so I most likely won't keep it on at night while driving.

Since I'm short (5'2"), I was having a hard time seeing over the rear tire and all the headrests. I'm happy that I got this...I think it was a wise investment. When I get the nav system (eventually), I will have it rewired to use that screen.

My next big purchase is the DVD headrests from Visualogic. The ones that are top loading and each headrest has it's own DVD player which means no fighting amongst the youngins.

The dealership let me have an 06 Escalade for a loaner overnight and I have to say...that's one sweet ride. If I had the $$$, I would purchase one of those also for those longer road trips.

Jenyphur -

Thanks for your post. I am looking at having this exact same camera as you installed in my new H3 (picking it up tomorrow). I am also 5'2" and let me tell you, visibility in my Toyota Sienna "mom-mobile" was horrid due to the small mirrors. I can't tell you how many times I almost changed lanes over someone even though I did turn around and look out all that glass that the H3 doesn't have. Didn't matter, didn't help. The H3's huge mirrors have solved a multitude of driving problems for me (rented one before purchasing) and this little camera will fill in the gaps nicely. I'm also going to buy a Nav system -- which one are you looking at?

I was just in Chandler for 3 weeks as a drunk in a pick-up - an unregistered, unlicenced, illegal drunk - hit my mother's little Hyundai. She had air bags all around and got off with a slightly broken pelvis (two small bones) and a badly broken left arm. The guy in the pickup had his girlfriend with him and she went right through the windshield. Overall ugly - the accident made the news. It was a couple days before Xmas too!

Holy smokes..that's terrible. Sadly, there are a lot of people here without licenses and insurance even though it is the law to have both.

I'm looking at the Eclipse model for the NAV. I have a bid on a pair of headrest DVD players. I'll know in about 4 hours if I get them or not. The dealer wanted about 2.5k to install them so hopefully I will get a good deal getting these elsewhere and having them installed. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We just took our first hockey road trip this weekend and the backup camera was great on the highway. We pretty much leave it on all the time now.

I do know that you can get the hitchcam for about $500 online and then you just have to get it installed.

I recomend the eclipse you can hook up a camera it goes on with reverse automatically or you can bring it up as your driving by the touch screen .It is not powered when the truck is off.

Isn't the eclipse system a built-in dash Nav? I think I might want a portable nav instead. My 11 year old wants his hands on a nav system badly and he's a great help! I managed to get the dealer to throw in the DVD system which was easy since they were only charging $300 bucks for it. That said, I probably overpaid for the vehicle since I had a tantruming 4 year old with me. Around here, sticker is $39,900 with luxury package, chrome package, automatic transmission, chrome wheels, side air bags, satellite radio, sunroof and chrome step. I got them down only aboug $500 and they threw in the DVD player, rubber mats (whoopie http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) and chrome roof rack. Oh well, what can ya do! I'm thinking about getting the extended warrantee but only if the price is right!

And I hope you get the DVD system! Isn't Ebay fun? I am a vintage jewelry dealer and occasionally we throw pieces to Ebay but mainly, I have a group of dealers I buy from. Really has been indespensible, especially since a lot of the estate pieces come out of retirement areas such as Florida. I can see what the dealers have online and get great prices for my customers, then pass the deal along.

I was thinking I forgot all about a brush guard! I probably will have one installed eventually. Anyone else know anything about that rear seat that snaps into the car seat tether lock?

You might ask your installer to get power from a switched 12V source instead of an always-on circuit. Wire it that way and the camera will only function when your truck is on.

NEET!

The VisorView looks impressive. Let us know how it easy it installs and how well it works. Also what was the final price...
