Hummer sales & gas prices

Gas prices are on the rise with no end in sight. I'm predicting gloom & doom for sales of the Hummer line-up unless GM gets it together with bringing us something more fuel-efficient & practical. That would be great for the future, but what about now? I think sales are going to tank as prices rise!!

Some other Hummer enthusiast I know disagree...in what almost seems like a proud & arrogant manner, these folks seem to feel that Hummer owners are all significanly wealthy and are essentially unaffected by rising gas prices....that a couple thousand dollars more each year spent at the pump means nothing to them. They say Hummer owner don't feel the bite and sales will continue almost unaffected.

My counter-thought to this arguement is that Hummer owners may have the money, but they likely worked hard to earn it and are not wasteful & careless...they care about the environment and conservation to some extent.

Our H2 sales haven't really been affected, most of our customers realize this is a temporary upswing, and prices will settle at around 2 bucks a gallon (at least here in Texas) before long.

here in italy an H2 cost 71K usd and gasoline price is 4.5 usd per gallon ( 1 usd per liter).
An H1 Alpha have a price of 175K usd.

It depends if You are including the full Hummer line or not in the poll.
With the H3 in the line I see no slowing of sales. Hummer accidently brought out H3 at the right time. They will sell even better than expected now.
Many H2 owners do not buy them for the main ride so gas will not change that sale. Those that used them everyday it will affect some but, most do not worry to much. I do not worry because gas will come down and the H2 is My luxury in life that takes place of other things I use to do sothe money was being spent anyway I just shifted it to My H2 addiction. I use to travel every weekend to a softball tourney which meant rooms, food, gas and allot more money. I actual save money by changing hobbies.

I was also curious if current owners like ourselves would buy an H2 if we had it to do again...but that would be another issue. I know some fellow Hummer owners even bought Prius's and other hybrids just to have a more efficient vehicle for their daily use. Again, another topic.

Some people are missing the point. Yes, we can ALL afford the gasoline. But who wants to spend $75 a week on a tank of gas when you can do a lot more with that money elsewhere?

For me - as long as the joy of driving that truck offsets the cost of gas, it can get to $4 a gallon and I will still drive it. My Hummer is my version of a theme park, and there's never a line. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As for those looking to buy - I think some sales may be down, but not for the true enthusiasts. You know, those who get goosebumps on the test drive.

Until there is a comparable vehicle with much better mileage, these things will continue to sell. the H2, Escalade, Excursion, Yukon, Subs and most trucks comparbly equipped, all get about the same mileage, the Yukons, Tahoes, Explorers and other lighter vehicles are not in the same competetion but will cost you $65/wk instead of $75/wk. The H3 will probably cost you $50/wk, but I would still prefer the H2.
a savings of 1200/year to drive a lesser vehicle is so incidental, heck I will just not go to sushi one time a month (from 6 to 5 times)and break even.

It seems everyone I know is more concerned about how much my gas costs except me. I'm more concerned about the heating fuel for my house this Winter than the gas I use for my H2. I just drove to Colorado (from Chicago) and back (2nd Colorado trip by the way)--hell of a drive but I loved every minute of it.
The week after Katrina, I decided to fill my tank (it was $3.40 then) and when I got to the station people were lined around the block. The scene reminded me of the early '80s and gas rationing-- people were downright irate, belligerent, in a panic. I heard several shouts of "get that f---ing Hummer..." (I think they were driving a Yugo) this and that. Did it bother me? No. I'm sure the several dual-wheel Ford pickups were in the same boat--did anyone have a problem with them?
Bottomline is, the might alter my driving habits a bit (small bit) but I'll never get rid of the H2. In fact, I'd like to have an H1 too.

Not me. I just filled up my new house in the last year. My next house has to be as big or bigger to fit all my stuff, plus have 5 car garage so I can fix a H1 in there with all my current stuff.

Usetosell , are you 4' tall? THe last thing i'm trying to say by buying a H2 is that i'm the man. I bought it because my wife wanted it for a school bus and that it would trek through 2' of snow.

I think that for the most part, people that want a Hummer will buy one no matter what fuel costs. There will always be some that won't because of the cost, but I think thats a low number. I'm not happy with spending 3.00/gal, but wouldn't want to drive anything else. I have a late model chevy pickup, and it doesn't do any better on fuel.

Rides realy smooth--just like a stock H2 but a hair better. There were 33's (toyo's) on this one which helped with the ride.

No supercharger on this one (possibly my job for some owners--we are negotiating) so it is a dog like every other stock H2---I have some inside pics coming.

It is not super functional as a limo---more of a single person's private space when at an event. Slick for a private party when on the road. I prefer a private party in a Vegas hotel room.
