Looking for Easy Off-Road Trails Near Northern Virginia/DC Area

[How Much!!]

I would like to give my 2005 H2 some off road time, other than parking in fields. Thus, I’m looking for some beginner trails near Northern Virginia.

I’ve looked at the GW National Forest, that looks good. However, they have little information on their Web site and I really want to find a set of trails that will keep me out of trouble. Rather not scratch up, or damage my Hummer just yet.

Also, I would be happy to learn about trails that are closer than GW. The forest is a couple of hours away.

The best way to find trails is to just go looking. You never know what you'll find or who you'll meet. Just grab a topo map and go.http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Make sure to bring some basic recovery gear:
recovery strap & tree strap
winch or come-along
shovel
folding saw

Thanks. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Yeah, head on out there and have fun. Just be careful as some of those trails can be jeep sized, not HUMMER sized. The best investment you can make is a set of shields to protect the paint. Oh, and all that stuff DRTY said. There are some rock climbing places near Charlottesville, too.

I was looking for more of a bad dirt road, not something that will scratch up the paint. I want to be a wimp for now. ;-)

You'll meet some at the HH's. There are plenty of Appalachian trails you can hit.
