One more point. Assuming that you don't have a problem, (leaks, plugged radiator, etc) if the temps are running 120 degrees outside, I highly doubt you are going to keep any vehicle running 160 degrees. Once the temps start to rise, it doesn't matter what thermostat is in there.

It simply means that the thermostat is open at 160 degrees and in your case, stays open ALL the time.

Since the sc is making alot of boost at lower rpms, I would think that the sc isn't causing the temps to run up (Just because you have a sc) I'll bet in those temps (ambient air temps of 120 degrees, running 210 is very normal)

Just my .02 worth.

Mark, thanks. I know no one thing is giong to solve the heat issue.

I have several friends that have F150's that are supercharged and they're not having any trouble in our summer heat so evidently Ford has figured out the magic combination.

Cerritos Hummer's service department did call today to say that a brass valve guide got sucked into the head and that the head would need to be replaced. We're still waiting to find out who's going to pay for it, me or the warranty company. While this address the check engine light that came on on my recent trip to Ca it doesn't address the running hot or above normal.

If you lost a valve guide, that would mean that you either can't remove the exhaust correctly for that cylinder (assuming an exhaust valve guide) OR the fuel/air combo coming into the head for that cylinder is incorrect which could be rich or lean...

In either case, it ain't good.

Since they'll have the head off (I'd do a valve job on BOTH heads btw) this will be a good time to start from scratch.

Mark,
Agreed.
They said cylinders 2 & 6 had bent valves and if I remember correctly cylinder 6 was the one that sucked the guide.

I'll call tomorrow and ask if they intend to do a valve job while the heads are off.

Oh trust me, they have to....

If they are any kind of mechanic, they'll take off both heads and do a valve job on both, not just the damaged one.

Now, the question is, why did you suck a valve? I don't think the 6.0's have any history of poor head work but lightbulbs burn out sometimes.

DRTYFN 03-14-2006 02:16 AM

Oh, the heads are off all right. And the inspector is coming out. Otherwise the ass chewing begins.

H2Finally 03-14-2006 02:17 AM

Fubar, that really sucks what you're going thru .

The good news is, imho, you've ended up at the most competent Hummer shop around. I hope you're communicating directly with Mike Sabarese (the head service honcho). To SoCal Hummer owners, this guy is a legend.

I'm almost local to you -- let me know if you need anything!

KenP 03-14-2006 02:51 AM

Fubar, what kind of trade will they give?

Seriously, this problem sucks.

Overpowering in low range brings teh breakage.

Maybe if you put a "MadMax" switch to engage/disengage when on/offroad it would be practical.

Fubar 03-14-2006 04:39 AM

Ken,
Unless you're offering me a job and a relocation package, I'm not in a financial position where I can afford a truck payment.

Worse case the warranty company refuses to pay for the repairs and I have to. My coming up with a couple grand for a one time fix is far more doable than trying to make a truck payment of $500-$900 per month for the next 5 years.

But yes this situation seriously sucks. Welcome to my world.

H2Finally,
Don't get me started on my thoughts about Mike Sabarese. Since he has refused to return any of my phone messages and phone calls and always seams to be away from his desk I don't have much positive to say about the man.

Cerritos may be one of the better Hummer Dealerships in Ca but if this is the best they get it isn’t saying much.

I'm very disappointed with the way this issue is being handled. 15 days to come to the conclusion that I have troubles of this magnitude is just plain unprofessional.

Mark on the head that sucked the valve guide they are replacing the entire head so I'm going to assume it will come with new valves, and no need to do a valve job to that particular side. Right? The other side I don't know I would assume since both heads are off and at the machine shop that they'd do a valve job on the other head not being replaced.

Is there anything I can suggest to them parts wise that they should use to rebuild the head not being replaced so that this doesn't happen again?

Drty, Thanks for your assistance today.
Everyone else thanks for the support.

H2finally, my head is a bit messed up right now and I know I'm not thinking clearly, but your the one who has a resturant in Manhatten Beach correct? Perhaps I'll come see ya if I can steal mom's car for a few hours.

Your typical H2 owner. Spends all this cash on his rig but can't afford the monthly even though he lives with his mom. Lawdy lawdy oh lawd.

Typical, wtf are you talking about. I'm sure there are some owners out there that are struggling with the payment and perhaps shouldn't own one BUT I can say that for ALOT of people, even those driving honda civics so don't generalize that buII**** comment.

I do make payments. Mine was paid for but since I'm starting another shop, I needed some extra cash so I refinanced my H2... (borrowed 29K against it)

Since you haven't walked in the man's shoes and don't know his particular financial position, my suggestion is to shut up dickhead, err, 4skin.

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>Double damn! Yeah, Mike isn't good at returning phone calls. But I think that's because he still likes to get his hands dirty too much, even though he is now head of service. Too, he is not a fan of superchargers (talked me out of it when I was considering one -- when I called you about it). Have faith, I'm sure they'll get it done!

Meantime, I'll treat you to the best steak in town & a couple of drinks to cheer you up!

KenP 03-15-2006 04:39 AM

Can I visit? Actually, nevermind. I'd hate to screw up the night's profits with my drink orders. Or ruin the entire night by some uncontrollable noxious release.

OrangeCrush 03-15-2006 09:48 AM

I would out right ask them if they plan on doing a valve job on the other head. If there is physically nothing wrong with it, you may be hard pressed to get a warranty company to pay for it.

Point is, I'd pay the 150 bucks myself and have it done. (IMO)

Good luck,

Keep us informed.

What I hate are dirty little elves who try and fondle gullible young women with the promise of a big hummer.

I look at you HGW and think, "Yes, I know what he's hoping for."

What a sick and decieving way to satisfy you perversion.
