fstop is spot on with his description. Used to have a place right across for Garden of the Gods there. Not the same as being up in say Summit County but still very beautiful.

Thanks for the brief descriptions of Colorado Springs. I'll be there in early June near the Garden of the Gods.

If you have the time, make sure to drive up Pike's Peak road to the top. Beautiful drive. Then the next day, take the Cog Railway from Mainitou Springs to the top of Pike's Peak. Relaxing, and you the driver, can actually enjoy some of the mountain scenery and take some pictures. Just remember, don't run to the refreshment stand, that 14K+ altitude will knock you on your A** until you get used to it.:D
Also, go south to the Royal Gorge. At one time it was the highest bridge in the world, not sure if that is still true. Another great scenic road is Old Stage Road. Just head toward the zoo on Cheyenne mountain, but at a junction take Gold Camp road, follow this through the canyon and you will eventually connect to Gold Camp road. Some old style tunnels. The entire area is just one giant future photo (outside and west of the city that is).

(View from top of Pike's Peak, October, a few years ago.)

Never driven up Pike's Peak but have done the Cog Railway a few times, very beautiful. Been there for the races a couple times too. They fly up that mountain. I will try to find out the name but there is a beautiful old trail that you can catch near Colorado Springs that goes up over the mountains and comes down near Breckenridge. No serious off roading but a beautiful drive and a 4x4 is needed.

I still have about 100 lbs of antique railroad spikes I collected walking along the Gold Camp Road (the site of an old railroad) when I was an iddy biddy boy.:) We used to camp there.

Both volumes of this ( http://www.4x4books.com/cb.htm ) will be very helpful if you are looking for wheeling spots.

If you like to backpack, there are endless awesome places around there to go. Here's some from a wilderness area near Copper Mountain, where we are about 6 miles from the nearest motorized vehicle:

If your on I-70 on June 30th, look for a white H3 flying west to Utah. Heading back to Moab for more photos.

So, how do you like being a photographer? I dabbled in it when I was in college, but have found the only way I like shooting humans was with something other than a camera.:D

Re: Living Almost Two Miles Up

My wife was the photographer and she is now gone off to do whatever. So I've been left to my devices to come up with a new business or eat sage brush while living around a campfire with illegal immigrants. To combat that problem, I managed to move out of Leadville thanks to a wonderful landlord, returned to Edwards where I'm staying with a friend, and I'm meeting with an attorney in 9 hours to talk about setting up my venture, which will remain secret until I get a registration on the name. So I will be posting again soon with all the new info. And I have some questions I will need answered.

Until then, I must say that I enjoy photography, but my wife has our camera, so I can't take any more pictures. And I've never had the opportunity to shoot anything but an air powered riffle... :)
