Bad idea!!! Maintenance is easy, the fact that BADRAP did his from start to finish means that a touch-up should be no big deal. Have you seen the topic, Chrome on aluminum; The pros & cons? http://www.elcova.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=2826088551&f=6706011751&m=433606607 3
quote:
What kind of metal is the skid plate made of?

The skid plate is made of 6061 T6 aluminum. It is very pure and very soft, perfect for stamping. This material holds a polish for a very long time with low maintenance.(just ask HUMMERMAN he was my first customer from this forum) James www.brightlee.com |
I like my plate, I have to clean it from time to time and it is not very hard, I can do it now and still leave the plate on the H2. Still comes out nice... Thanks for the comment Bright-Lee....

Bright-Lee Beleive it or not mine still looks great after several months - no noticeable loss of shine! The only unusual thing I do is to always make sure when I wash the H2 is to wash the plate and then dry it when I dry the rest of the vehicle. I use just a regular off the shelf wash like Meguires PINK. And towel dry it with a cotton towel.
The trick is as you stated to make sure the inperfections are cleaned and boffed smooth - then it is easy to maintain! |
