I'd say look at Costco because if you get one, and don't like it, you can simply take it back and try another one, which is great for TV's. Also, if it blows up, take it back, no questions asked.

Some HiFi Home Theater TV, Audio Systems, DVD players reviews and technical info

You definately want to get a 1080p set because that's the highest resolution and most are going that direction now.

Unfortunately, HDMI appears to be the only input with 1080p... Find V1.3 if you can.

Here's some sets (various prices):

Sceptre 42" LCD HDTV 1080p

Sony Bravia 46" 1080P LCD HDTV

Sharp 1080P 52" LCD HDTV

Mitsubishi Diamond Series 1080P DLP HDTV

Mitsubishi review In fact, it's Cnet's Best Overall HDTV...

This is a good audio system at a reasonable price:

If you want a kick-ass audio system, and price isn't a factor:

Denon makes some of the best systems too, and DVD players.

Don't know if you made a decision yet, but remember one thing. No matter what any of us say, you have to live with it. Go spend some time looking at all the sets out there and decide what looks best to you. True, usually the sets on the display floor are set on torch mode and the feeds are usually crap, but you will get an idea of the quality. Also make sure you are not one of the folks that sees rainbows when watching a DLP.

I personally have a 61" Samsung DLP. It has the best picture for the money in my opinion, but I am on my fourth light engine (under warranty, but they run $1200 if you are out of warranty.) I personally will never own another Samsung product after this one.

The Sony SXRD that are being mentioned also have a great picture. Watch Circuit City for amazing sales on these to pop up. Before Christmas, they were all but giving them away if you used your Circuit City credit card.

Big things now are HDMI and if you are headed to HD DVD or Blu-Ray, you will want the set to accept 1080p over HDMI.

I never buy the extended warranty except on expensive TV's and laptops...and maybe this H2, but don't just assume you don't need the warranty. These sets are bad expensive to repair.

It isn't 1080i, but 720p.

This will give you 1080p for about the same price to $100 more based on net results. Plus you'll get the SXRD technology.

I've never had problems with Sony and prefer them to anyothers.

Like Ken said, the set is 720p, not 1080p. This really only matters if you are a hardcore HD person and want the newest, latest and greatest or have a PS3, HD DVD player or Blu-Ray (otherwise you don't need 1080p.) No one is broadcasting 1080p, we don't have enough bandwidth, and the TV will downconvert 1080i (NBC, CBS, HDNet, CW) to 720p (ABC, FOX, ESPN) for display, but you will not notice it. If you just want a nice HD set, this will do the job for you.

This set is the 55" version of the set I have been looking at putting in my office for gaming. I think the set has a great picture. I also liked the pricing on it from Circuit City.

Two comments about that:
1) Get much work done at the office?:giggling:
2) I got ours at Circuit City. You can go to their website and pay for it and then just pick it up at the store.

Re: TV Help

Hey perfect timing for this thread. I have recently moved into my new house and am looking for a new tv. I know nothing about tvs , but this thread is helping. My present tv is a 36" Sony, I believe it must be a "tube" type because it is heavy as hell and the depth is prolly 20". I only like SOny stuff , can someone steer me in the right direction . This is what i have.
Will be mounted in entertainment center built in wall , depth has to be less than 24".
The room is wired for surround sound.
The room is basically 20' x 28' , multiple couches.
The tv needs to be seen from quite a few angles . (if possible)
I am looking for dependability , doesnt have to be the latest techy model.
Pricing is definetly a factor , no more than a few thousand.
Any suggestions?

Thanks , doug

You need a ceiling mounted projector for a room that size. Otherwise, I'd recommend atleast a 60-65". We've got a Sony Super Wega 60" and it's great even when viewed not straight on. It's got HDMI and many other inputs.

I don't know from first hand but have read that if you are really into sports than an LCD is not the way to go. The article said that the image would leave a trail behind it if it was moving fast. Sounds like BS to me. Can anyone confirm?

I don't know if LCD has gotten any better, but my LCD projection (52 inch panansonic) does pixilate if the images are variant enough (ie fast moving cameras at a football game). That is to say, the image comes out looking "blocky" during fast action sequences.

I have a 42 inch panasonic plasma in the bedroom and no pixilation occurs. Also, the colors are much more vibrant on the plasma (Granted, it's smaller and not projected).
