Y'know, it's just lame that GM can't pull their collective bohemouth heads out of their arses. You could pick ten folks off of this forum and we'd have an H3 put together that would keep Shreveport open for many years to come.

Where's the diesel 4.5 that'll give the H3 25mpg for instance?

Even all that given, the best GM can do for a great econo car is the stinkin' Aveo made in South frickin' Korea!?!?:soapbox:

I don't get it. I really don't get it. All that college education, Ivy League buuuulllllsheot and they couldn't find their nose with a mirror.

Why I outta....

My dealership would be one of those. Kinda neat how GM sold 'em on that eh? They said it's almost enough to make them start selling Hyundais or Kias!

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??

At least my dealership, North Bay Hummer, has Cadillac to fall back on, but how about dealers like Lynch in the Midwest, arguably the largest Hummer only dealership in size, first they loose the H1 now this, - the same goes for Sewell Hummer in Dallas, some of the most knowledgeable Hummer people around. I've visited these two dealerships in my travels and drooled the times I was there over their inventory. These two dealers alone have millons invested in their facilities and many long time employees. Both have some of the original AMG people. What will GM do for them? What will they do for us if they drastically scale back the Hummer? My biggest concern is where will I go for warranty work and how well will these people know a Hummer from an Escalade? I'm with DRTYFN, maybe we'd all be better off if they sold it back to AMG.

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??

This thread has started to go serious...rightfully so...maybe we should start to organized or brainstorm as a group to try and foresee what might happen and how WE as a group might excert our collected power to make sure IF something happens negatively to the HUMMER line that we are protected...

Its possible if things go SOUTH that we have no power to do SQUAT !

BUT

maybe we do...

any organzational people here who can advise us ? (or are we/I just pissin in the wind)

never hurts to prepare...

Can Tata swallow the Hummer?
or can you swallow a TATA?
June 06, 2008 New Delhi, 06 June 2008: After the acquisition of Jaguar and Land Rover, Indian auto companies rank high in the global M&A pecking order. Merchant bankers are learnt to have approached both the Tatas and Mahindras for General Motors’ (GM) iconic brand, Hummer.
The all-American SUV and pick-up brand, which is often associated with both US military might and sheer Hollywood style machismo, is up for sale as announced by top GM executives earlier this week.
According to auto industry sources, the successful completion of the Jaguar and Land Rover deal has turned the Tatas into hot property in the auto deal beat. Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M), which was also in the fray for the two Brit brands, is the other Indian company that merchant bankers are approaching. Neither company has reportedly taken a definitive decision on the deal yet.
When contacted, a Tata Motors spokesperson refused to comment. An M&M spokesperson also refused to comment on the ‘market speculation’. Earlier this week, GM announced that it was stopping production at its four plants that build gasoline-guzzling pickup trucks and SUVs.

It also announced that it is looking at all possibilities for its Hummer brand, including a complete sale. General Motors CEO, Rick Wagoner, said, "At this point, we are considering all options for the Hummer brand, everything from a complete revamp of the product line up to a complete sale of the brand."
The move, along with a sharper focus on its electric concept Volt, are a reaction to gas prices and increasing mileage consciousness in the US.
Although an iconic brand, the Hummer has turned into a bit of a hot potato of late thanks to a variety of reasons. Even its most ardent admirer, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who at one point defied Hollywood’s hybrid obsession to own a fleet of Hummers, has now given them up.
Its gas-guzzling image does not sit well at a time when oil prices are going through the roof and everyone in the industry is chanting mileage.
Also, its association with the US military makes it a politically incorrect brand. However, in terms of brand recall, it is one of the strongest in the GM bouquet.
According to analysts, the Hummer could be a good option for both the Tatas and Mahindras, provided the price is attractive. Since both companies have a strong SUV presence and global ambitions, this could be a nice fit if the negative brand associations are taken care of.
The Hummer recorded a 35% drop in sales in the first half of this calendar year. Last year, it saw an over 20% drop in sales. Hummers account for just 1% of GM’s total sales.
The boxy SUV has military genes that go back to the early 80s. Its civilian avatar came a decade later when AM General introduced it.
GM bought the Hummer brand in 1999, following which it has launched two new products-the H1 and H2.

Hey Girls, Want Free Breast Implants!…Show us your tata’s!

WSB Atlanta
ATLANTA — Hundreds of young Atlanta women are signed up on a Web site that some critics are calling total exploitation. The founders call it free enterprise. And just about everyone Channel 2 showed it to called it shocking. It’s called MyFreeImplants.com and it’s a donation site for young women who want free breast implants. But it’s what they do to get the big money that’s troubling for some.

MyFreeImplants.com is a business venture hatched at a bachelor party in Las Vegas to help young women raise thousands of dollars for breast augmentation surgery through online donors. Five-thousand women are now signed up. Here’s how it works. The women create a profile on the site that can only be accessed by people, mostly men, who pay a $40 subscription fee and then donate to the women they like. On their profile are pictures the young women provide, usually sexy, nude pictures. And it appears, the more naked their pictures are, the more money they make.
Tammi Ray, 18, told Channel 2 she is desperate for implants and thinks they will improve her life. She posted topless pictures of herself. When asked how she felt about posting them, she said, “Nervous, scared. I still am. I think every day to take them off, but I don’t because I know I need them up there.” Rosseter was with Ray when she showed her mother the profile pictures. Mom wasn’t happy with the nudity but she supported her daughter.
“If this is something that is going to make her happy and boost her confidence in life to get here where she wants to go in life, then I back her on this,” said mom Tammy Ray.

I've studied Tata in an upper level business management class and I wouldn't underestimate it - it's tougher than it looks. Who'd of thought that a company from there would have been able to do what it has thus far.

Selling off the Hummer line would be just another short-sighted, bone-headed move by GM, not to mention downright un-American. :notallthere:

I'll never buy another GM product if they do.

I havent heard anything. But I am thinking it's too early. That purchase can't be more than a few months ago.

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??

GM should not be allowed to sell Hummer brand overseas (particularly not to place like that  ) - the prestige of our country will get further beating. I know GM is losing money with Hummer right now, but since Hummer sales account only for very small portion of GM total sales, they should tweak the brand but keep it alive, and definitely here. Maybe sell it to another US company with domestic manufacturing plants would be an option, but not overseas. However it's probably not very realistic to expect that someone will prevent GM to do with Hummer brand whatever they want. But, if that company buys Hummer, I'll feel like smacked into the face. Next time someone may decide that NASA space program could be completely outsourced to asia or even sold to expanding 3rd world manufacturer.

Sorry got carried away

Is an H4 on the design boards, or is this the much talked about HX? Sounds to me like a lot is riding on the H3T.

H4 is supposedly the production model of the HX, which would be the next vehicle out after the H3T...The H3T, in my opinion, isn't a brand-saver - although I think the H4 could be - but they need to get it to market very soon, which is unlikely.

The sale wasn't final until 6-1-08. Very little time to see a difference.
