I looked in the service manual but I could not find any part number for the amp. Where else should I look?
Cheers |
PB, would you please change your avitar. This one is spoken for and I don't like to share. My goofy clown has a reputation that needs to be upheld.
Thanks. S&B Member since '03 |
who didn't see that coming!

the part number is under the amp. I think it should be #15199992
I guess I will change the clown. I will put makeup on it for the next guy. |

I install a nav HU in my North Face Avalanche in Dec, Started on Nov. 24 when I got the HU from the dealer and GPS. Installed and everything worked but the audio. after a few week of research I found out that I needed a diffrent amp. The Avalanches come with a cheep Bose amp so I got the amp and rewired the conector for it only to find out it needed to be programed. Dec 24th got it Programed and whala sound. One thing the you need todo in the hummer is conect the VSS to the HU so it will work faster on the Nav. If you have ? about how, ask You will Like it more.

Does VSS stand for vehicle speed sensor? How do you connect the VSS to the GPS nav HU? I plan on trying this conversion myself. Thanks Cheers |
Pbuilder,
From the schematics I've looked at, it is the same signal sent to the speedometer. I thought I'd just tap into it the next time I take my dash apart to install XM. Do you do something different? Klaus Rare 2003 H2 with UM8 Integrated Navigation Radio ![]() Skull & Bones Member since 2003 |
Klaus
Yes I went to the speedo also . if you don't after awhile it will set a code. Also it will make it smooth like a babies ass. no more jitters. |
Pbuilder,
Do you have XM in your truck? That's the next add-on for me. I've looked at the schematics, and it appears that it could be added reasonably easy as far as connecting it goes. Getting the tuner module and the molex connector to plug the wiring into the module appears to be the biggest problems. What kills me is that Gm and everyone else says we can't do this upgrade. the hummers and cads have it easy for they have the amp and mic already install. We avalanchers have to rewire the amp and add the mic and then get it programed. what a pain. if the truck or car has the upgraded amp in it already the it is easy. here is post on the Avalanche site.
http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com...threadid=21297 I am planning on do a how to do for us since i was the first to do the upgrade in a AV. No one else could do it. Now one other AV has it done. |
I jus t bought the addon 6 disk changer that going in the escolade and tring to find a XM box from a juck yard to do it. the problem is that it will lock up when installed in another truck. the docs I have says it has to be replaced if that happens because the dealer are not able to unlock the xm boxes.
not sure if they will do a warrenty exchange on it or not if that is what happens. I am going to find out one of these days. |
Klaus
when did you get yours done |
I finished bolting it in on 01/02/2004.
It's interesting that you are looking at the changer and the XM box. That would be ideal. However, looking at the schematics of the Escalade, it appears that the add-on CD player and the XM box use the same pins on connector C2 of the radio. I could not find a schematic showing them connected at the same time. I wonder if it has to be one or the other? I guess the easiest thing to do is wait for the Blitzsafe Skylink adapter for my XM. Blitzsafe says I should also be able to connect their soon to be released AUX adapter along with the Skylink adapter. I could then connect a digital player and have my entire music collection to choose from! Klaus Rare 2003 H2 with UM8 Integrated Navigation Radio ![]() Skull & Bones Member since 2003 |
the xm, cd changer, and the rse all use the same conector. the data link is what controls it.I have a bunch of printout on the conector and schematics of everything.
|
OK Guys,
Since it looks like I am going to take my truck back apart to add the vehicle speed signal circuit to the navigation radio, I might as well go for broke. ![]() I'm attempting to order the GM XM Radio parts to add factory XM to my H2. ![]() We shall see how it goes! I have tried to get one but no luck, the six disk changer is the same no luck. ebay or junk yards are the best bet. |
If you are interested in playing a DVD the GM nav system may play it when the H2 is park and the parking brake is on. Some other systems work this way.

heres a manuel if you want it for the nav HU http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.asp?Style=&Mfg=GMC&Make=CAD&Model=EXT&Year= &Category=19&Keyword=&Module=&mscsid=S304UFHTAHHA8 MN5JLXNJCA4V28PERR6 |
Thanks, Scott. I already had that one. That's where I got Delphi's number to try to get info. That was a waste of time!
BTW - PIE is coming out with an adapter like the Soundgate: http://www.xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=18371 Klaus Rare 2003 H2 with UM8 Integrated Navigation Radio ![]() Skull & Bones Member since 2003 |
Scott,
I downloaded the manual from GM in PDF format, and it is posted on this site. Go to: http://www.elcova.com/h2/details.html Look for the 2004 Navigation System Manual link. ![]() Klaus Rare 2003 H2 with UM8 Integrated Navigation Radio ![]() Skull & Bones Member since 2003 |
Thanks Klaus
I could have used that last week before I spent 17 bucks for the cadi nav book. I will check out the PIE before I buy. Thanks |
Klaus,
Any news on the VSS connection. I would also be interested in your overall impression of the system to date. Give me a shout if you ever need someone to wheel with! |
Bevo,
I haven't done it yet. I'm trying to do that at the same time I come up with a XM Radio/CD or Aux solution. I have the Soundgate adapter, but I've just about given up on using it because of everyone else's problems with it. The other adapters are not out yet. If their release date keeps slipping, I'll just go ahead and do the VSS connection. The actual VSS connection should be straight forward. It's the wire that goes to the speedometer. I'll post an update as soon as I do it. Klaus Rare 2003 H2 with UM8 Integrated Navigation Radio ![]() Skull & Bones Member since 2003 |

Check this out, Its kinda cool but then it also sucks. to much money for what it is. the Guy want 350 if you do it and 500 if you send it to him. Just as well spend 250 on a good 7in monitor to do the same. http://www.navwithtv.com Scott |
Scott,
I just can't see needing TV on the NAV unit. You're right, best to go with a separate monitor. Klaus Rare 2003 H2 with UM8 Integrated Navigation Radio ![]() Skull & Bones Member since 2003 |

Thanks for the link. I am going to look into this. I sent them an email. We need to be able to start our kids DVDs and from the front seats you can not see the headrest monitors. Klaus Have you connected the VSS yet? Cheers |

Also, it has been too COLD for me to work on the truck. Klaus Rare 2003 H2 with UM8 Integrated Navigation Radio ![]() Skull & Bones Member since 2003 |
You think it is too cold in Atlanta! It is 15 degrees in my garage. My PAC unit that runs my sub box quit working a month ago and I can not stand the thought of freezing my a$$ off to fix it.
![]() Cheers |
True, cold is a relative thing... But remember, I moved 250 miles NORTH when I moved to Atlanta!

you won't be able to use your DVD to plat movies for the kids. What this does is lets you connect another video sorce to the HU and see it on your screen. To me it is lame. Scott |
I have the DVD player under the back seat. From the front seat you can reach and put a DVD in the player but you can't see the screen to know when to push play at the menus.
This would be perfict for what we need. Cheers |
Just to let you guys know, with the help of Klaus' instion description, my 2003 H2 is now Nav-equiped!. No amp compatabilitiy problems at all.

Congratulations, and welcome to the forum.
My next project is to add the 6 CD Changer from the Escalade in the OnStar location. I have most of the parts and instructions. Hopefully, in a couple of weeks I’ll have it done. I also want XM Radio, so I’m working on that as well. ![]() |
I’d like to add that the Chevy Avalanche guys have a great forum, and have really taken the lead on electronic goodies for GM trucks.
If you get a chance, I highly recommend you take a look at their forum: http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com...x.php?board=20 |

I know the DVD NAV that is coming with my SUT has XM. That's great news that your install worked. I've seen one for sale on Ebay so far and I think it went for $1550. I plan on selling mine once I get my SUT as it was preordered with the build. |

And it is NOT available for sale. Also, they are VIN locked to the vehicle they are installed in, so a used part is not an option. The dealer cannot unlock them. |
