Okay, I have the official report. My front differential essploded. The tech told me the earlier model H2's have a small issue with the front diff and that the new one will be much better. I'm feeling a little better today after hearing that, and I didn't mess up the axel or any other parts either. WHEW! I have a much better idea how the front end is put together now.

co-pilot: thanks for the flowers! Frank and Drty should be ashamed for blasting my little delivery mouse!

dochummer 06-06-2005 11:23 PM

So, should I get mine checked out/is there a tech bulletin? My warranty is up in november.... Did he say what exactly the issue was?

Glad to hear it's an easy fix...so when are you gonna get your rig back?

Hi,

I'm a guest here, and I don't own an H2, but I will say that it's a nice setup. I'm a cruiserhead, I have a 1983 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser retrofitted to be a HZJ60 (12HT Turbo Diesel with H55f Trans).

I'm interested in your camera setup on front and rear. Is that a Stock H2 acoutrement, or aftermarket? If aftermarket, is it possible to record the views at all?

I'm most interested in recording other traffic. My wife and I were recently rear-ended on the freeway by a trucker. What's worse is that he did it on purpose (he mistook us for another lookalike car that had been harrassing him) and he is now denying it. So I'm now out like $1000 for a Volvo rear bumper cover. I only wish the wife had been using the camcorder so the insurance company could see that he clearly hit us on purpose. As it is, he denies hitting us at all.....

As I said, nice rig, and anytime any of you are in Wisconsin and are up for some wheeling, let me know. I'm not here to bash anyone's rig (I dont' have to bash anyone else's rig to feel good about my own) and I enjoy off-roading with anyone who is up to it. After all, we may drive different vehicles, but us off-roaders have to stick together, or we will hang seperately when Sierra club suceeds in closing all public lands to us all.

Thanks,
Fred

Fred,

If you're looking to record with these cams, they have an RCA video(Yellow)cord where you can just plug into a portable VCR. No audio. You'd have to do a setup like Ken's.

Welcome and sorry to hear aboot the accident.

Are you writing in Canadian now?

I like that set-up. Where do you view the images?

DennisAJC 06-16-2005 01:33 AM

With that type of set up, I can multiply my input channels on my NAV monitor

Channel 1 - NAV
Channel 2 - DVD1, DVD2, T.V.
Channel 3 - Front Cam, Rear Cam

........EH!

Oh. it really wasn't anything. Like i said the trucker was upset over soemthing a car did that looked just like ours, and he went for a little "highway vigilante" action and got the wrong car.

He tapped us at around 10 MPH and just cracked the platic bumper cover on the car. I pulled over, he didn't. I chased him thru about 3 counties before the police finally caught him. The accident happened in Iowa, so:

A) it's not considered an accident since the damage was estimated to be less than $1000 (the cop clearly had never purchased anything at a Volvo Dealer before)

B) Since it wasn't a reportable accident, (and he denied ever hitting us at all) the guy couldn't be charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

So, the only thing I got out of it was a cracked bumper cover, and lots of bad feelings towards truckers.

I'd like to think that in Wisconsin, he'd have been taken to jail... and that he wouldn't have driven halfway across the state before the State Troopers managed to intercept him.

Fred

And the red thingy is a warn power line.

DRTYFN would be the best guy to ask. He's the brainchild behind it all. I am so happy I waited for it.

The winch looks form fitting and solid. Thats the nicest one I've seen by far. How much?

Bill Kervaski 06-21-2005 01:34 AM

Where would one buy one of these bumper wenches?

DennisAJC 06-21-2005 02:02 AM

You must speak to the Deity.

DRTYFN be thy name.

You'll love the setup.

dochummer 06-21-2005 01:12 PM

Hey Drty, I thought you were using Mile Marker Winches in your setup? I just noticed that Dennis has a Warn wench...

DRTYFN 06-21-2005 03:17 PM

We dumped them because they were dragging their feet on supplying us with their new 12K winch. Then it turns out that they were dragging their feet because they were attempting to steal our prototype bumper and claim it as their own. They got caught red-handed.
I went over to Warn and found their Tabor series winches fit better than MM's anyway. Plus, if there is ever a repair issue with a Warn winch there's service centers everywhere, whereas with a MM you have to ship it back to them.

Uh... That's a Warn Winch. Dennis' wife won't let him have a Warn Wench.

They were chrome lugs for an H1. I sandblasted them and spraybombed them flat black with Tremclad High Heat Paint.

PARAGON 06-26-2005 11:33 AM

For the lugs, you can get them HERE.

He's the guy that started Dick Cepek tires (among other off-road stuff) and is a really good guy and will take care of you. There are no original black lugs available and he got in a bunch and had them anodized for me. I could not find them anywhere else and he was the only one I could find willing to work with me.

DennisAJC 06-26-2005 04:02 PM

Paragon,

Looks like you took a smarter step further getting them anodized. I don't think spray will last as long.

How much was it to get anodized? Mabye you can sell us a bunch in Moab.

I had to sandblast the chrome off then bombed it with Tremclad high heat flat black. And STILL they chipped a bit when I put them on.

KenP 06-26-2005 04:19 PM

You can't PC them?

Hummer Geek 06-30-2005 01:35 PM

I sent an email to my dealer that asked, "do the lugnuts for an H1 fit an H2?" and his reply was "different threads". I really like the lugs on DRTYFN and DennisAJC. I would like to know which lugnuts work (is the dealer correct?

I used an industrial enamel and the paint sort of chipped/compressed off of the edges when I used the lug wrench to tighten them on. I'm going to strip them again and have them anodized.
