2x3 would have been overkill, but not have looked as nice as the 2x6, so your ready to knock fillings out with these!!!!

They look great, but I'm concerned the stock metal will bend without any cross bracing. What do you think?

Is blacktop normal for driveways out there?

Yes. I took it down to C.B. Pott's parking lot this evening and a couple of the Colorado guys jumped on them. It's field tested. I'm good to go. :D
