I need your help guys!
It's been raining like mad here, and the H2 SUT is leaking in the front ( I assume) It sounded like water sloshing back in forth through the passenger rocker panel, so I took off the step guards (on the inside of the cab seal, just below the kick panel) and it was full of water. I cleaned it all out, but I am sure it will come back unless I find the source. I NEED your help; anyone else found this on a wagon or sut let me know!!! |

ok, I have read all the "other" leak threads...I will look at the A pillar. see it it is the damn marker light.

SILICONE AND LOTS OF IT !!!!
|
lamp or sun roof?
|
Sunroof drains have been a problem but in your rocker panel is does sound more like the marker light(s). One screw removes the lens. Then inspect the rubber boot & see if it's seated properly. Then inspect the wire going through the rubber boot to be sure it's sealed. If anything looks suspicious, seal it with RTV silicone. DON'T USE CLEAR SILICONE. Use the black permatex adhesive/sealer.
|
thank you guys...it's pouring now...so I have been looking at everything.
Water seems to be pouring out of the frame work that was under the kick panel. I removed the A piller cover, and it was dry under it. I assume that large hose under that is the sunroof drain hose, or one of. The wires coming from there look to be dry...but when you remove your kick panel there are two slots with a round hole in the middle that hold the panel in place...water is coming from the hole in the middle. |
ok, under the marker light is a hole that the wire goes down. It is not wet under the light per say...but there is water in the hole...weird.
|
VTSTOMPER...the only drains that run through that pillar is the sunroof drain. If everything else is dry above the dashboard I would suspicion a leak in the drain below the dash. I'll research further & if I find something useful I'll post. Sorry guy.

drain routing. This might help.

Here is the front drain hose schematic, if its any help to you.

Damn! You beat me by one minute with the pic!

Thanks guys...maybe I will snake the drains.
Does this make look right? |
Thanks again for your help this far guys...it is suppose to rain all frickin week here.

Let us know how you make out. Lots of interest in H2 leaks!

Are you saying when you pull the rubber boot off that the marker light wire goes through there's water in the hole below it??? ![]() |
LV, yeah, I really was not deep into it on that earlier post...but see below:
I put RTV around the inside of the marker lamp gromet, and then stuck it back on...it was dry under it, so I do not think that is it. But, I will do the hose test after the RVT dries. What else can cause a leak up there other than the marker light? Only the sunroof? I also looked under the dash...looks dry..I am pissed I cannot find it. It IS coming out from the metal under the kick plate. |
oops

Well of course there's always the possibility of a windshield leak. Water can do strange things and many times it ends up in a place totally unrelated. From the roof down the only things I can think of is the clearance lights and the sunroof drains. There has been an ongoing problem with the sunroof drains kinking, even on the '05s. If that's it, for it to show up inside the kick panel it would almost have to be just below the A Pillar where the drain turns. The only other thing you might check is the rubber grommets between the body and the front of the doors. There's been reports of leaks at the door defroster & wiring grommets.
|
OK.
LV, thanks for all your help man! I will check those other locations tomorrow. My dealer is about 80 miles away...and I have not got the time to take time off right now for that. I feel like I can take care of this. Wonder if they would say the RTV will void my warranty. ![]() |
No...as a matter of fact some of their TSBs stipulate to use Permatex adhesive/sealer.
|
It's probably trolls. Does the fluid from the leaks taste like troll urine?

hummerNCO...did you get it solved?
I have yet to leak test it today. I called the dealer, to help me brainstorm...not much help. So we will see. I am going to do the door grommet if it is still leaking. |
still leaking.
So, I am looking at the inside of the door frame now. The two bolts that are attached to the door stop hardware (just above the wiring gromet) Seemed loose...so I tightened them down a bit. I then ran the hose for about 1hr on top of the roof. The water was only going though the channel at the top, and not hitting the sunroof at all as I did in the other tests. It did leak, but not nearly as much. I then took off the door gromet on the Hummer side, not the door, and filled the inner lip with RTV, put it back on and sealed around that with RTV. For extra measure, I put RTV around the bracket I tightened in the first place. Now to let it set, and I will try it all over again. ![]() |

Jonahs,
You rock! Thank you for your ongoing help with this. I was wondering about the seals under there. ![]() |
One last suggestion on testing for leaks. START AT THE BOTTOM! Then work your way up slowly. Give it time to start appearing so don't get in a hurry. By doing that you'll absolutely isolate the area i.e. below a certain point. Then you can quickly zero in on the culprit.
|
This is true. My step ladder has been holding the hose as I run around to find the leaks.
|
If those door grommet seals are not tightly
sealed it will pour water in. Take a good look at that, especially if the leak started after someone was messing with it for some reason, (running wires, etc..) |
Hummertech,
Thanks for the advice. I think that is what it was...yet there has not been anyone running wires. I think the factory fit is not that great seeing that GM made all the water run right down through there. I had an ice storm here about a month ago..and the area between the frame and door had a large build up of ice...it was pretty wild. I am just waiting to get out of work to be sure. Then i can focas on getting everything dry and back together. |
Fixed. It was the door gromet. I am happy that is over.

just did the other door...gotta be safe!

Glad you got it figured out, J; and thanks for taking us through it with you in case it happens to one of us.

No prob Pete! I was so bummed when I heard that water soshing back and forth. Glad it's over.

hummerNCO...did you get it solved? </div></BLOCKQUOTE> I took my truck in this morning to have the pad replaced and the carpet cleaned. They are going to look at the floor when the carpet is out to see if there is any other sign of leakage there. After reading your posts I am going to ask them to seal the door grommet for good measure. I値l be puddle hunting soon. |
I hear that there is a grommet that can leak near or above brake pedal or fuel pedal. Not the one in the floor. Hummer told me about that when I asked about my leak.
|
I picked up my truck this afternoon. Cerritos HUMMER re-sealed the floor plug, sealed some seam along the door pillar, removed the AC box and sealed something around there (then had to recharge the AC), and replaced the rubber seal around the door. They say it was thoroughly checked for leaks with the carpet and pad out and they seem confidant that it should not leak. Unfortunately they did not seal that rubber boot around the wires in the door pillar even though I asked them if they could. I told them yesterday that I had heard of others finding that to be the source of their problem so I thought they might put some sealant there for good measure, but no.
I did not find the foam under the pedals to be wet so I did not think the water was coming from the firewall area and they said the same thing. So hopefully the grommet up there isn稚 the source. I知 heading to Las Vegas this weekend, then up to Tahoe. Seems unlikely that I値l find any good puddles out there between Death Valley and the bombing ranges. I値l find some somewhere though and we値l see. |
