Blue Devil a reality?

Volume 1 - Issue 49

Muscle Cars

Blue Devil a reality?

As if 505hp isn?t enough for the wildly successful new Z06 Corvette, a GM official has confirmed the Blue Devil or SS Corvette could be a reality? with 600hp! Tom Wallace told journalists that GM is working on the car, and spy photos show the proposed car on the famed Nurburgring test track in Germany with Michigan license plates.

Wallace did say that one facet engineers are focusing on is how to make the horsepower usable. It also is unclear if the new LS9 engine will be naturally aspirated or supercharged, as has been the talk on automotive Web sites.

The current Z06 has 505hp and can reach speeds of 198 mph. The Z06 has a base price of $65,800, and yes, that is a great deal of money, but is cheap for this kind of performance.

The Blue Devil may be the first six-figure car in GM history. Another area engineers are working on is weight and, through more extensive use of carbon fiber body panels, their goal is to make the car lighter than 3,000 pounds.

The 2006 Z06 weighs 3,132 pounds and can cover the quarter mile in 11.7 seconds at 125 mph.
Stay tuned.

Nope, no Blue Devil :D

Maybe a mid-engine C7 with the blown LS9 with over 600HP but almost 600 lb/ft of torque also?

I'm just betting a drivetrain test mule was seen.

I agree, and I can't say anymore, other than it will take in a lot of air:eek:

"The Blue Devil may be the first six-figure car in GM history." Evidently, the writer has not researched his material, the Cadillac XLR-V has a starting price of an even $100,000, and last I looked it has a GM emblem on the side.

Well, you're partially right. It won't be officially known as the Blue Devil when it comes out. Code named that now, though.:D:D
They're having a tough time getting the power to the ground with the current tire set up.

Definitely an SS from what I hear. Dirty is right in that they are having trouble getting it to hookup with all that power. Talk is also that when it does hit the lots you will have to take a drivers training course before taking ownership. Too many new Z owners biting it already.

Re: Blue Devil a reality?

All I will say is Blue Devil is out; who knows, maybe like the person it was going to be named after, who will possibly be out too someday.:D

The powertrain units are in normal looking Vettes and hard to distinguish from a normal ZO6, and are being driven on the roads and tested in Germany. There will be some with extremely black out rear windows, to hide the electronic testing equipment that is contained in the rear of the vehicle, and with a breakout box on a bracket over the passenger seat.

So, if someone sees a ZO6 driving around with extremely blacked out windows in the rear, and a large electronic device sitting in the passenger seat with approximately 50+ LEDS and a ton of switches. (Should I say they will probably have the infamous MI "M" plate.) It might be one...

Powertrain mules do not require extensive camo to hide their appearance, only body mules used for new style bodies. The differences in the body will have camo (basically, a bunch of large car bras). Good example, there are about six H3s running around the country with test engines and you can't tell the difference between these vehicles and a normal off the lot H3, unless you notice the plate and look inside. However, there are plenty of test vehicles with existing powertrains running around with "M" plates too; that are used by engineering for testing, analysis, and joy rides by bored engineers.

As to the powertrain, someone is right, someone is wrong.

When they do hit the lots, I bet everyone will be sold months prior to production. As to driver's training course, I find that just some cool humor. Does GM require off-road driver's training for H1s?

And in regard to the photo of the "thing," take a close look at the rims, there will never be a Vette with over 600 HP manufactured with only four lugs.:D

You weren't paying close enough attention. Those are the new top secret quad-centric lug patterns. 4-bolt pattern outside of a smaller circular 4-bolt pattern

Most of what I heard on performance is second hand, not being directly involved in the project. What I've seen on the other hand, all I can say is the car formerly known as the Blue Devil will be much easier to distinguish from a Z06 than a Z06 is from a standard C6. :D

That would be because it will be the C7 with a new body style and even more rounded curves.

Here's my thought: You have the C6, then introduce the C6 Z06. Then comes the "radical" C7 and all will be sold at the same time for 2 or 3 years. The C7 will be known as the "SS" Then as they C6 is ending it's shortened lifespan, a C7 that is toned down will be introduced to replace the regular C6. So, possibly, over a 2 to 3 year period there will be 3 completely different models produced and sold, each with their own specific engine configurations.

For me this begs the question, what does GM have up their sleeves to try to stuff these big motors into also?:D

f5fstop 05-23-2006 10:16 PM

Re: Blue Devil a reality?

Don't believe they will designate it as a C7. GM's life cycles are at least seven years for a selling vehicle. But, who knows.
Claydog sees the bodies, I see the powertrains, and I'll release the inside info.

Duramax 6.6L diesel, with twin tubos, and the rear hatch opens up with flat floor for hauling firewood.
