Why did this happen?
We had some decent snowfall preceded by ice here in Kansas so I decided to see how the traction was on the H2. On an empty stretch of road I did a 180? and my traction control and ABS lights came on and stayed on.
I put a code reader on and erased the code and it didn't return but I have to wonder, did I confuse the system or worse, mess something up? |
Re: Why did this happen?
I also had something similar happen in my '06. I was dorking around in some slimmy mud with a friend doing donuts and generally getting the Hummer as dirty as I could, when my ABS light came on and the truck started free-spinning the tires. It seemed like the traction control had completely shut off.
I did some more spinning and such, and later shut the truck off, which reset the ABS light, and the traction control and ABS seem to be working fine now. I chalked it up to Hummer being smart enough to realize I was playing around and really didn't need the Traction control and ABS on, but I never really looked into it further. BTW, it's been working fine for 6 weeks or so since then, so I don't think you'll have any problem in the near future. Anyone else have this happen, and does anyone know why it happens? |

What was the code; C0245 (usually the one)? If so, yes, you have confused the system. Since the system is looking to see a wheel speed sensor signal different than the other three, and you happen to be on glare ice or another type of extremely slippery surface, the EBCM sees some strange signals and cannot determine which, if any, wheel sensor is bad. So, it warns you that it has shut down the ABS/Trac system. Under normal slippage it won't do this, but sometimes when doing donuts, the wheels speed sensors are sending out some strange signals to the computer. |
Re: Why did this happen?
ie - one tire going backwards while the other tires are spinning forwards
It's a safety feature. You obviously know if you were doing something "different" when it happened, the computer doesn't. All it knows is it was getting some screwy data from the wheels speed sensors and can't properly control the truck using the ABS/TCS so it shuts down to be safe |
Re: Why did this happen?
Thanks for the replies guys, good to know it's normal behavior.
FWIW the next day on a slick road the "traction control active" message came on so it seemed to be working correctly. |

Ya thats probably it.......:giggling: Why would you want traction while your wheeling anyways. |

It wasn't an insult, I was mildly excited you came back for more sorrowful ownage. Do you want to discuss the importance of traction while wheeling? |

I wasn't wheeling... See: "I was dorking around in some slimmy mud with a friend doing donuts and generally getting the Hummer as dirty as I could" :jump: |

Id love to! I think that if you got a error code from doing donuts....something is wrong. |

Hence the reason for the thread. ![]() |
Re: Why did this happen?
yes, but some of your superiors are saying that its normal. If that is normal behavior, i suppose it makes sense being a GM product. I've done many donuts in my new subaru, and its computer is smart enough to not shut down the traction control system and abs.

Then let me ask you something Einstein...why dont you go to a Subaru board then?????? You stupid mother****ingtrollingbitchassprick. Oh, and welcome.:clapping: |

Then post some pics please of your superior wheeling.....we are waiting.... If not then shut your troll piehole you ****ing tard. |
Re: Why did this happen?
I don't want to, there is no point. I just tried to help with this serious hummer defect, and you guys just jump all over me....:lame:
ok maybe one pic.....it actually balanced there with no straps on. :D ![]() |
Re: Why did this happen?
i guess that means i get to keep my piehole open! WooT!!!!

Actually asshat a troll can post a pic from any site. Thats what ****ing trolls do. You know what, just continue with your troll like ways please. I will welcome when one of the "Not so Nice" members get ahold of your bacon burger flipping ass. You = sad for coming to a Hummer site and talking of your Subaru the showing a pic of a HIGHLY modded jeep. You drive a schwinn dont you. |
Re: Why did this happen?
lol OK! Now im really insulted, you called my buggy a jeep. yuck, ew wash your mouth out with soap.
Its a toyota, get it straight whitey. Supra inline six, with dual t-cases and dana 60 axles. Its not a highly modified anything, its a bone stock buggy. That I built, with my own hands, and welder, and plasma cutter. |
Re: Why did this happen?
1. that is his rig, it's the cover girl for bc4x4. deal with it.
2. yea... jeep.... what kinda tard would wheel a jeep |

Re: Why did this happen?
Ok kids, lets get back on topic, why would this traction control crap out like that?

Prove it then. And secondly again I must ask why you asses are on this site????? TROLLING |

How can i prove it to you great one? Here is a buildup thread for ya:

Wow, thats fantastic. Nice rig. Lots of money though spent on that. Seems wasteful. I really liked from the site the toothless emoticons you all have. Cute ![]() |
Re: Why did this happen?
Not much money spent, maybe 15000 or so, lots of parts are sold to buy different parts, and I do the work myself. New tires arrived yesterday.....woot!
Thats our american smilie. :D |
Re: Why did this happen?

I guess it never really lost traction, like Poopy's lil buggy up that slippery little incline, it was just a glitch in the matrix. Let us know if it happens again Mdoyle. |
Re: Why did this happen?

sorry to burst your bubble but it's impossible to judge a direction with abs. a tone wheel and sensor pickup simply see pulses, which when calibrated into a PPM give you a speed, not a direction. you simply spun out and didn't back out of the skinny pedal, much like the new gm cars do when you try to do a burn out without turning off the tcs. it's confused because it was overwhelmed by why anyone who would like to spin half their tires that much without going anywhere. |
Re: Why did this happen?

you idiots put flubs up for your cover picture? have any of you wheeled for more than a year, or have real experience. Hey shithead, don't you know you are supposed to gas it when your ass tries to get in front of your front-end or did it scare you so much you froze up and made your butt-buddies put a strap-on and pull you back down. |
Re: Why did this happen?
LOL you are a funny guy. If we could winch a hummer to the top of that trail, and have one drive down, it would be an entertaining ride. Its hard to gas out with 175:1 crawl ratio. Plus the spectators loved it, it was a competition btw.

Re: Why did this happen?

Nice attempt. When a tire goes backwards.... what does it do? It stops going the direction it was supposed to go, goes backwards. Idiots, No, NO. There's no way they would program to allow for wheelspin:lame: |
Re: Why did this happen?
Again, i will have to suspend your account if you go off topic Mr Paragon.
Stupid troll. |
Re: Why did this happen?
The Traction Control System continually monitors the rotational speed of each wheel. If one wheel is spinning more than the others, the Traction Control System applies braking pressure to the spinning wheel to help it regain its composure and transfers available torque to the wheels that have traction. It also has a glitch in the system to allow more than usual slippage when needed to paddle through something.

I think what he is saying, is that there is a sensor, it senses a pulse when the magnet or whatever it is goes past the sensor. It has no idea if its going forwards of backwards, its just passing a sensor. Lets go to a simpler example for you. Picture the speedometer you have on your road cycle, when you got the kid at the bike shop to install it he put a little magnet on your wheel and a sensor on your forks somewhere. |

Re: Why did this happen?

Maybe crawl ratio is beyond you. You probably have about 30:1 in your ultimate offroader. When i mash the gas in 1st gear, it barely moves. I would have had to shift into 5th to drive outta that, but it happend in about 3 seconds so there was no time. |
