![]() Driver Crashes Ferrari Enzo On PCH MALIBU, Calif. -- A speeding Ferrari whose driver may have been racing crashed Tuesday on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, prompting the closure of the roadway and an investigation to determine who was behind the wheel, officials said. ![]() Paramedics sent to PCH at Decker Road about 6:15 a.m. treated one person at at the scene for a minor injury, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Ron Haralson. That man, whose name was not immediately released, told authorities he was the owner of the Ferrari Enzo, but claimed that he was the passenger and that the driver ran off after the crash. "The fact (is) that the passenger is the registered owner of the vehicle, from the Beverly Hills-Bel Air area. The passenger had blood on his mouth and both airbags on the car deployed, but only the driver's side airbag had blood on it, not the passenger side," said Sgt. Phillip Brooks. As of late Tuesday morning, there had been no arrests in the case, according to the watch commander at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station. The Ferrari Enzo, a limited-edition vehicle worth between $600,000 and $1 million, has a published top speed of 225 mph. "We have the passenger, who told us the driver did flee from the scene," Brooks said. "And we... followed some footprints up the side of the hill in an effort to locate the driver." Authorities believe the Ferrari "was traveling at least 100 mph and it will probably be a lot more than that once we conclude our investigation," Brooks said. Authorities said the driver of the Ferrari might have been racing a motorist in a Mercedes Benz. The impact sheared the Ferrari in half, with the entire front section separated from the rest of the vehicle. "For a million dollars, you get a very good passenger-safety system, and apparently in this case it did work," Brooks said. Some electrical service was interrupted in the area after a power pole was struck by the car. At least one lane of PCH remained closed late Tuesday morning while crews worked to replace the damaged pole. |
yup a prime example of an idiot with more money than brains.

There's lots of high HP cars roaming around L.A. I think that the Enzo driver just lost control. Probably hit an uneven surface or slight bump. That'll do it at high speed. That's why I used to scout all of the roads and freeways before any high speed runs so that I was VERY familiar with the surfaces. I never "raced" on unfamiliar roads. That would bring the Reaper.

If you watch WilFred's video clip, it looks like the Enzo only hit a light pole, no cars.. ouch
|
Damn, after watching the vid you realize how far those parts slid.
|
do u think its totalled?
![]() |
For what that car is worth new?
They would probably rebuild it even if the only thing they salvaged was a wheel.... |
The media is hyperventilating that it was "probably over 200mph!!!".

Man that sucks. Given his environement was safe you almost cant blame the guy for testing his car. Its almost like buying a Hummer and not putting if offroad. Sure they are both great vehicles without ever testing them, but the whole fun is in their capabilities. At the same time one must know HIS capabilites and surroundings as im sure the car was quite capable but he was not up to the challenge or the road was unfit.
With all the media, I imagine hes going to have a hard time talking his insurance company into covering this one....600,000-1,000,000 down the drain sure does hurt(most peoples pocket book and any discerning individuals mind). So DRTY when are you getting your exotic? |
Thats gotta suck. What a nice car..and completely ruined :-(
We can diss him and stuff, but I gotta give him a thumbs up. People never drive their supercars, they never drive their expensive exotic cars. He actually took it out. |

For anyone who doesn't know, the Ferrari Enzo and the McLaren SLR are two out of the three or four fastest street vehicles on the planet. When you're driving one of them, NO ONE messes with you. When they encountered each other, it was a test to see who had the biggest cohones.

I think there are less than 100 enzos in the states (less than 99 now!)so that is an ultra rare Ferrari. If it were mine, I'm sure I'd puch it quite often and it sucks he wrecked it. At least it went down in a blaze of glory and no one was seriously injured or killed.
It kind of reminds me of the hockey player Danny Heatley's fatal ferrari accident here in Atlanta. It happened 5 min from my house. I went by the scene on the way to the gym before I knew it happened and saw yellow Ferrari parts strewn across the roadway. It was a sad story and I often go to the bar where they were hangin out before they wrecked. I think these guys buy the cars and think that since they cost so much, they can handle in manners that defy physics! Being a corvette owner, you have to know the limits of your car before you just jump in and hit the twisties full bore. I am guilty of spinning out because I thought I could handle better than it did and from not having a fast car for over five years! |
ferrari drivers LMFAO

I love it..atleast he had the balls to floor it and not drive it like a pussy...

![]() Click on the link DRTY posted. The quote is as follows: "According to [police spokesman] Brooks, [owner] Erikssen said a German named "Dietrich" was driving the car. Police said the Ferrari may have been involved in a race with a Mercedes-McLaren SLR." The image of those two racing stuck with me. |
According to this article, he may have been racing a SLR:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11488164 But wait, there's more twist to this story, not only he's probably the driver and is denying that because he was under the influence. According to another board, he is a race car driver of Cirtek Motorsport, he raced a Ferrari 360 in the 2005 Le Mans. |

So, what's the deal with insurance?? Since he was speeding(illegal), does that let the insurance buttholes off the hook? Or do they still have to pay out
![]() Cause I know up her in Canada, if you wreck your vehicle doing something ILLEGAL, say drunk driving, YOU are solely responsible and there is no insurance $$$! |
Stupid...stupid...stupid...
![]() ![]() ![]() The Enzo should have kicked the SLRMcL's azz and prolly did. |

probably did til he ran into a telephone pole |

2nd Ferrari accident I saw this month. Last week a different red one speeding down a street (past a school) in my neighborhood, hit the center divider, spun around and ran it backwards into a house. Not too smart.

I'm even more amazed that the driver was a supposed professional race driver. Absolutely unbelievable. He must have really screwed the pooch... the Enzo has all kinds of electronic training wheels to assist the driver. I'm still wondering about him losing it on a stretch that he has to have driven before. And a .09 isn't really enough to cause that kind of brain fart(I'm in no way condoning or trying to lessen the severity of his DUII). Hopefully, there will be a computer re-creation of this accident(so I can start another thread with PWN3d!!! in the title
![]() Alan06SUT, I believe that there were only 388-400 Enzos produced, with only(maybe) 50-60 coming to the states. This number is rough because there were a few others that were imported and maybe a couple that were exported. I know of 2 Enzos that have already been destroyed here(fire & wreck ![]() |
Here's another one....
