question on onstar
can someone tell me if i can go to any GM dealer to have my onstar upgraded?
|
Re: question on onstar
Nope. Call OnStar directly....1.888.4.ONSTAR or go to onstar.com to upgrade. The dealership has nothing to do with it.

Re: question on onstar
Or, for that matter, just get in your car and press the OnStar button and they can upgrade you right there. Ya need a credit card of course. :D

Re: question on onstar
No, that's fine for adding money to your account, but to upgrade from analog to digital you do need to see a dealer.

Re: question on onstar
I just called them to activate my new to me '03. They would not allow me to be on a yearly plan, just monthly because as of jan 1 '08 all of the analog on-star units will be off-star units. They require a trip to any dealer for the swap out, a $100 "activation fee" and a 1 year plan purchase of $199 for safe and sound package.

Link doesnt work here, sorry, go above a couple posts and click on that link and input your info through onstar they will tell you what your after |
Re: question on onstar
Yah, I got the same letter.
Has anyone had the upgrade done yet? It says it takes 15 mins - is this really true, or is the typical 2 hr dealer wait? Stacy |
Re: question on onstar
Hey guys. Updated my 2004 H2 to digital about 6 mths ago. Still doesn't recognize names worth a darn, but does a good job with entering and recognizing the numbers when you say them. From what I remember, it cost me a renewal fee for a year, $199.00, and there was no additional charge for changing it. It only takes about 15 minutes, but with dealer wait, your guess is as good as mine..Da BRUTE

Re: question on onstar
WOOHOOOOOO This is what mine said:
This is a dual-mode (analog/digital) vehicle with equipment that operates on both the analog and digital cellular networks. It will not require an upgrade in connection with the cellular industry's transition to the digital network. Since this vehicle is capable of operating on the digital network, no action is required. |

Re: question on onstar
anyone know what parts you need to do this yourself?
I do not subscribe, but would like it for 'in case of emergency' purposes. |
Re: question on onstar
Just Updated mine at the dealership which is 100 miles away! It only took them about an hour to do it and it is working great!

Re: question on onstar
Since we just got ours, I used the onStar button tonight and got the subscription but the girl I talked to said we'd need the upgrade. Okay, no problem. However, when I called back tonight and got someone else (was trying to get my account number) she said our '03 H2 was not upgradeable. Then she said their system was down so she couldn't check. Same goes for the VIN page where you look online. Hopefully ours is upgradeable and we can do this but they told us it'd be an additional $100 dealership charge. Does anyone know if they're charging this extra fee? I guess I'll call onStar back tomorrow to see if we can upgrade, then call the dealer.

Re: question on onstar
Kim, when I upgraded my '03 I paid for a year's subscription and only $15 for the dealer to swap in the new gear.
|
Re: question on onstar
Thanks so much. I just put in the VIN number and got what you said, that it was upgradeable and it was $15 plus the year's subscription. I found where the extra $100 came in. That's if you do it after Feb '08. :) I guess we'll do that sometime this month.

Re: question on onstar
I tried contacting GM to see if they would allow you to do the upgrade without the 1 yr subscription, but no response.
To the OP - according to GM, ANY GM dealer is equipped to do this upgrade. It's not a Hummer part, it's an OnStar part. The key is finding one who WILL do it. I am about 1.5 hrs from the closest Hummer dealer but there are 2 GM dealerships within 20 mins of me. I took the letter stating that any GM dealer will do the upgrade to both dealerships and they refused. Bastards. So I booked an appt at my Hummer dealer. Not only does the part have to be ordered (2-3 days), but the dealer says the upgrade will take 1.5 hours. So that's about 4 hours and $214 for something I have STILL yet to use. Stacy |
