To fix or not? that is the question!
ok guys I have a 65" mitsubishi rear projection HDTV with tuner. its about 4 years old and I think the kids were playing with it and blew the power circut, so now the safety cut out light just flashes at me and won't reset. the question is should I spend the money to fix it or just go buy a new one?

Re: To fix or not? that is the question!
IMHO....get a new one....technology has advanced enough in 4 years that its time to get the latest and greatest. Don't waste the bucks fixing a relatively old set (in terms of technology). I'd guess a repair bill would be a few hundred at least.

Exactly.... We've got a Sony Trinitron thats about 4 or 5 years old and we're kinda hoping it will kick the bucket so we can get a new one...our luck the damn thing will run forever....has a great picture, but nothing like the Sony Bravia we just got for the bedroom. |

don't give in... find someone in your town that will come out and give you a free estamite... THEN make a knowledgeable decision... unless you have money to burn...it may turn out that a new set is the most logical but get the estimate first... |
Re: To fix or not? that is the question!
Go new. BUT, have the little turds pay for it.:excited:

Re: To fix or not? that is the question!
Maybe you could get some bucks for the old one on ebay. Just say its been mildly offroaded. :giggling:

Re: To fix or not? that is the question!
I've replaced 5 of my sets, but the big screen hasn't gone out yet. It's hard to get rid of a perfectly good one. But if my set broke I wouldn't think twice about getting a new one. Get a 50+" LCD!

Re: To fix or not? that is the question!
get a new one! at least everytime one of my electronics breaks, such as a computer or TV we usually get a new one just becuase ours became outdated and usually cost 80 percent of the buying price of a new one to fix, if you got 4 years out of it and the cost to fix is near the cost to replace id replace and get a new better more advanced tv.

Re: To fix or not? that is the question!
Once you've gone flat(screen), you'll never go back! :excited:
AND, fix the old one yourself! (for the kid's room) :beerchug: |
Re: To fix or not? that is the question!
Get a new one. Having the latest and greatest is always nice. I've got a Toshiba 1080 plasma at my house, which has bitchin picture quality. But, I was house sitting for my family a few weeks ago and watched their new Bravia, and well lets just say; I ****ing hate you Mikejr. Lucky bastid. :beerchug:

Re: To fix or not? that is the question!
If you have to buy a new one Costco is a good choice but with a limited selection...
NICE THING THOUGH is the "90 day no questions asked return policy" remember to keep the box :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: |

I agree. Costco is good, so is Samsclub. Even Walmart has some nice LCDs, but for the same priced at Sams you can get an equivalent TV with a few more features. Check out VIZIO - Those TVs rock and are dirt cheap. |

I used to own stock in Costco so I followed to company a lot more then I do now. But, up until recently Costco had a year (or maybe two) warranty on there plasmas. If it broke you took it in and they would give you a new one. People caught on to this and would return their TV just to get a new one with all the latest updates. Like all good things that came to an end. :crying: |
Re: To fix or not? that is the question!

Fixing it myself is not beyond my abilities, I just need good info to diagnos it. I found one site that has great info and the majority of issues on this set has been burn PCB capicitors(4 of them) without them the tv no starts. sounds simple if thats the real issue. but I am going to Sam's tommorrow with the wife so we'll see... |
