I already got a quote for my rims - $60/rim powder coat, will do them next week.

StarsnBars 04-30-2006 02:52 AM

Nice presentation G.L. Have you thought about Rhino lining the black hood piece. I think it would be a nice addition to your mostly Rhinoed front end. Great job, Looking forward to seeing your rig when you get the rims done. What program or site did you use to do this post ?

The Green Lantern 04-30-2006 02:54 AM

This is the company that did my grill - spray on, paid $80.00.

Sewie 04-30-2006 03:12 AM

3M double sided tape, I got it from PepBoys.

DRTYFN 04-30-2006 04:27 AM

Looks very nice without the offending bling.

You could've used a heat gun or a hair dryer to remove those emblems.

DarthKarl 04-30-2006 08:41 AM

Looks very sharp so far.

f5fstop 04-30-2006 09:39 AM

I like the black H, and silver 3 on the emblem.
Nice work...

fourfourto 04-30-2006 10:28 AM

I like your gas door I cant find a black one without a lock.I guess thats why you painted a chrome one.
But I see you have a lock on the cap.

Nice work...

x2. Really looks good TGL! Nice work.

Aubs 04-30-2006 12:16 PM

Very nice! One of the blacked-out H3's I really like. The Rhino lining is a nice touch.

DDWH 04-30-2006 12:25 PM

Looks great TGL! Can't wait to see it after you get the rims PCed!

ETD 04-30-2006 03:26 PM

deBlinged. Very nice.
Where/when can I sent mine to be done?

Amateur question: What's the best chemical to use to remove polish/wax from the plastic trim? Thanks.

StarsnBars 04-30-2006 03:32 PM

Amateur answer,,, I use my wifes nail polish remover. Love the smell and it works great.

The Green Lantern 04-30-2006 03:41 PM

You know, I thought about that on the emblems because underneath the chrome is a black plastic.

HUG A 3!!

MarineHawk 05-01-2006 12:34 AM

GL: What kind of tires do you have on there?

They look like GY MTRs, but I can't tell for sure.

Ipedog 05-01-2006 12:35 AM

Very Nice, TGL!

How doe you like the Dupli-Color truckbed coating for the lights? I picked up a can and am considering doing the grill with it.

The stuff your grill is done with seems, for the lack of a better word, "glittery"... Is the Dupli-Color stuff like that too, or is it more "flat"?

Excellent work! Truck looks great and I love the H3 emblems!

Thanks, I wouldn't recommend using that on the grill, because mine they used "hot spray", they will last longer.

Dupli-color truckbed coating is flat black. Yes, my grill looks glittery just because I put tire shine.

MarK M 05-01-2006 01:02 AM

looks good TGL!!

love the way it turned out.

NEOCON1 05-01-2006 11:10 AM

looking good

Scouts Out 05-01-2006 12:16 PM

I am waiting for the rims, I am pretty sure I will be blacking out the rims on my Superior Blue and adding a black gas cap cover. How did you hook up the fog lights you mounted on the brush guard? I really like it

TGL - I don't want to make a mistake here... Why don't you recommend this? Does the Dupli-Color stuff seem fragile or brittle? Did it not work well for the lights?

I'll spring for the line-x, but would rather save 80-90 bucks if possible. BUT, if the Dupli-Color stuff is going to fall apart...

Well, the Dupli-Color is basically a cold spray, coming out of a pressure can. Spray On Bedliners or Line-X uses a hot spray. It dries rock hard and will last a long time. They also have a large spray gun to cover large areas evenly. The Dupli-Color works great on little stuff you can repair easily, but for the grill I just think it would be better to have it professionally done. That’s all.

cheers!!

The Green Lantern 05-01-2006 03:13 PM

It worked great for the lights! But as for brittle or fragile, only time will tell.

Ipedog 05-01-2006 03:17 PM

Fair enough. Thanks.

Ipedog, I used the Dupli-Color truckbed coating on my grill and am extremely happy with the results. It is very durable and has a flat finish to it. I figured i would rather spend 20 bucks to do it myself, if it works, awesome, i save about 100 bucks, if not... no biggie.
TIPS: 1) I used a full 2 cans on it.
2) scuff up the with like 100 grit.
3) try to apply it at 90* angles otherwise you get a VERY rough surface, I would suggest hanging it.

If you have any questions, let me know.

got my skid plate and roof bars sand blasted and powder coated...

Sewie 05-02-2006 05:11 PM

Damn TGL, you're not f'n around.

I'm curious to see how well the PC holds up on the skid plate. Looks great for now though.

The Green Lantern 05-02-2006 05:16 PM

the guy said it should hold up pretty good, or else I'll bring it back to get coated again.

Sewie 05-02-2006 05:23 PM

Probably won't need to PC it again. Just rattle can it with a flat black.
