Alan06SUT 01-10-2006 03:04 AM

I am going offraoding with a doctor buddy of mine this weekend. He's got a rubicon w/ a 5.5" rubicon express lift. It should be a fun trip because he, like me, doesnt seem to give a phuk when it comes to testing limits. I will push the envelope but do so without being an idiot. I have taken the h2 (adv pkg stock tires) off road 4 times since i bought it in Sept, but have never really tested it on a side slope. I have a lev-o-guage and want to take it to the limit if presented the opportunity.

At what angle should I take it to on a side slope? I will load the heavy stuff in the bottom of the bed (no stuff on roof).

Also where will I be able to show him up? Or will he leave me in the dust? We are going to NC so it will be rocks w/ mud and some narrow, paint scratching trails I imagine.

Thanks guys.

You got that right. I didn't want to see you shoot poop & pee out your window after the first sideways revolution.

Hearing Drty scream like a little girl brings teh funny.

Hummer says 40% which is just shy of 23 degrees. But that is with the truck at full GVW. You'll want your seatbelt on at 35 degrees.

PARAGON 01-10-2006 04:58 PM

I guess my comment made it sound like you would want your seatbelt on because of flip over. I intended to mean, you want it on because you start sliding out of your seat.

Alan06SUT 01-10-2006 10:09 PM

Thanks. That should give me that uneasy feeling im trying to accomplish! I don't think ive gone beyond about 20 deg in the h2 yet.

Yeah I bet the ruby w/ 5.5 in lift would flip (sideways) before I would. What about mud? he is lighter so wont he esentially float better than me? I belive he has 35" tires also.

The way he descibed the area, it sounds like Tellico. I'll find out.

any of you guys wheeled w/ a rubicom before?

With mud you don't want to "float" you want your tire to sink through to solid ground. You prolly got 3K pounds on him.

Alan06SUT 01-10-2006 10:26 PM

good! I hope there is an opportunity to tow him out, I'll be sure to take many pictures!

Why is it that the wussy little 5-10 degree bump at Black Hole feels like 48 degrees? My hands just got sweaty.

And post them! theres a bounty on pics like that I hear.

I did take pictures of the front lawn my buddy got his cherokee stuck in last week. The tire pits where he was are less than 2 inches deep.

PARAGON 01-11-2006 01:33 AM

You have to drive an H2 in the mud completely different than you do a Rubi or something smaller.

Alan06SUT 01-11-2006 02:45 AM

I took it in deep mud once but went through the same area several times to try and learn how to get through it best. It seemed to be best to stay steady on the throttle and kind of do a controlled slide on through. It was just below my door handles in depth. An H1 got stuck when he tried to baby it through the deep part. I know he could have made it but, he chickened out and we just towed him back and he went around it. Also it seemed like the All Terrans got clogged pretty quickly but keeping them spinning seemed to clean them out somewhat. I look forward to comparing these vehicles. I know one thing, I'll have a much more comfortable ride there and back!

timgco 01-11-2006 03:00 AM

I just look straight ahead in that spot and pretend it is flat with no 500ft drop 5ft away.

Exactly!!! And that bump wouldn't even be noticeable somewhere else.

KenP 01-11-2006 04:49 AM

Well, is it Tellico?

KenP 01-11-2006 05:27 AM

The driver was hot.

h2co-pilot 01-11-2006 09:20 AM

Awwwwww!!!!

I think I drove it twice, once in the H2 also. Alec warned me the first time, it wasn't that bad.....wussies!

But I do remember looking down and over mouthing "oh shi<span class="ev_code_BLACK">t</span>" and quickly looking forward.

You drove through a mud hole that was up to your door handles in depth? I'm gonna call bull**** on that one, no way in hell. Maybe you meant water which would be possible but not mud.

Seriously though, does anyone have a pic from the Moab threads demonstrating said bump or, more importantly, the dropoff hazard?
